Dairy Queen finally opens in Cebu!

0

I scream for ice creaaaam! The long wait is over because Dairy Queen has finally opened its first 2 stores in Cebu!

Dairy Queen (DQ) is a chain of soft serve ice cream and fast-food restaurants owned by International Dairy Queen Inc. which opened its first store in 1940 at Joliet, Illinois. Because of its potential and increasing growth of market, it has expanded to different international countries until it reached to the Philippines and opened its first franchise at Gateway Mall- Araneta Center in Manila last March 2006.

Cebu could never be so lucky to have the first Dairy Queen franchise in Visayas. And Cebuanos will be the first to try DQ’s blizzard ice cream outside Metro Manila.

Dairy Queen DQ Cebu Blizzard (2)

Who wouldn’t say NO to ice cream? Hailed as having one of the most delicious ice creams in the world, Dairy Queen is proud to introduce its blizzard treats with different oozing flavors that are served upside down. Because if it does fall, you pay NOTHING. This is to maintain the standard and the quality of the ice cream.

DQ also serves a variety of ice cream cakes, shakes, frappe and many more for a reasonable price! I’m sure once you have tasted it, you will always want it.

And due to the demand call of Cebuanos to expand DQ’s franchise in the Philippines, DQ has opened four branches in Metro Cebu in just one month.

Branches:

  • SM City Cebu – Upper Ground Level, near Entrance 4 and beside Pizza Hut
  • Robinsons Cybergate
  • Ayala Center Cebu – 4th Level at the Food Choices

8 Ancestral Houses and Museums in Cebu City

3
museums-ancestral-houses-cebu-city

The Philippines is famous worldwide for its beautiful beaches but, if not for Vigan, Philippines would be unknown for its colonial architecture. There are a lot of century old houses scattered today across the Philippines and if you are up for a ‘bring me back to the old times’ feeling, you are just in the right page for we are about to give up a taste of these old houses and museums in Cebu City.

1. YAP-SAN DIEGO ANCESTRAL HOUSE

yap sandiego ancestral house cebu (1)

yap sandiego ancestral house cebu (5)
yap sandiego ancestral house cebu (7)

Built in the late 17th century, the Yap – San Diego Ancestral House is one of the oldest houses in the Philippines. Owned by Don Juan Yap and Doña Maria Florido, this ancestral house is still in its original state amidst the remains of weather-beaten but unyielding structures and old age.

Though the aesthetics, this house is a proof of what its like to be a God-centric home during the 17th century because the house was built with faith and devotion of a Cebuano’s family.

  • Location: 155-Lopez Jaena corner Mabini St., 6000 Parian, Cebu City
  • Operating Hours: 9AM to 6PM daily
  • Entrance Fee: ₱50 per head
  • Contact: (032) 514-3002, 514-3003 or 253-5568

2. 1730 JESUIT HOUSE (MUSEO DE PARIAN)

An 18th century house remarkably preserved behind big walls in the heart of Parian district is the 1730 Jesuit House. I am not sure if everyone is aware of its existence (until today) because this house by the Sy’s is very much hidden from the public but, the Jesuit House has now been converted to a museum by the new owners. Hence, its slowly gaining the attention of the public. Regardless of its popularity, the Jesuit House has proven to be tough for having survived various transformations – from being the residence of a religious community to a hardware store and warehouse.

  • Location: Zulueta Street, Parian, Cebu City
  • Operating Hours: 10AM to 5PM, Mondays to Saturdays (time of visit will be discussed upon appointment)
  • Entrance Fee: **There is no charge for a house visit but prior permission from the Sy family is needed.**

Sushi Boy: Your new go-to Japanese resto in Cebu City

0
sushiboycebu-itpark

When we think about Japanese food, we would almost immediately think of the go-to resto that we know. But somehow, things are about to change once you have tried this modern Japanese restaurant in town.

Sushi Boy, a modern Japanese cuisine and casual restaurant that is popular for its food quality and affordability, has a fresh new deal for us — the Bento Box. It is a delight-packed meal for our hungry tummies.

sushiboy-cebu-1

Bento is a single-portion take-out or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento holds rice or noodles, fish or meat, with pickled and cooked vegetables, in a box. In our terms, it is just “baon” prepared the Nihon way.

The Bento Box is Sushi Boy’s value meal set offer and is available for ₱199 only. It comes in five (5) delightful combination:

  1. Chicken Teriyaki Bites
  2. Torikatsu (Chicken)
  3. Tofu
  4. Tonkatsu (Pork)
  5. Pork Yakitori

Bento Box is available at Sushi Boy IT Park, Garden Bloc, IT Park, Lahug, Cebu City. Soon to be available at the Sushi Boy Mandaue Branch.

Meanwhile, here are some of the classic dishes you should try:

Best-tasting Cebuano buffet at Sugbufé

3
sugbufe-unlibuffetcebu

Recently, Cebu has seen significant increase of food businesses rising here and there especially in the metro area. While the competition among the players in the sector is getting more intense, the consumers are obviously emerged as the winners given a wide variety of cuisine to choose from — really a lot to try and experience. This relatively popular buffet restaurant in Cebu is something we can call as our own, the Sugbufé.

Sugbufé is Cebu’s popular authentic Filipino buffet restaurant located at M. Logarta St. Subangdaku, Mandaue. It desires to unite people from different generations, further creating camaraderie and reliving memories that are to create new ones.

This Filipino buffet restaurant flaunts posh interiors with glass walls and natural and organic elements decors. It’s really our ideal restaurant where we can proudly bring our balikbayan family and friends, tourists, and even the locals.

BEST-TASTING LOCAL FOOD

When was the last time have you eaten puto, sikwati, turon, budbud, bibingka, biko, and/or fresh lumpia? I bet it’s been a while now. Don’t fret, all these (and more!) are available in Sugbufé — fresh and delicious! I’m sure every bite will remind you of your mom’s dish or your childhood.

They also have chili crab, grilled pork, lengua estofado, pork and shrimp barbeque, grilled squid, grilled prawns, pork sisig, lumpia shanghai, ngohiong, sinuglaw, pochero, the flavorful Cebu lechon, and more!

There’s also a lot of choices for the desserts such as buko pandan, leche flan, the all-time favorite Halo-Halo and many more!

Cebu Trip: Badiang Gamay Beach in Tabogon

2
badianggamaybeachcebu

One thing I love about Cebu is, there are still a lot of unexplored or undiscovered gems in almost every corner of it. Being able to witness the rawness and untouched parts of nature will always be an amazing and refreshing experience for many people, most especially if there’s not much of a crowd.

Just recently, a reader has shared to us about Badiang Gamay Beach in Tabogon, an unfamiliar beach destination in the north where he associated it as the “budget version of Carnaza Island“. By the looks of it, though it resembles more to Kinatarcan Island for me, the place surely has some characteristics resembling to Carnaza — crystal clear water, surrounded by many trees, and it feels really refreshing. And the best part about this beach is, it has NO entrance fee!
