LTO suspends issuance of Student-Driver’s Permit until August

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) temporarily suspended their issuance of student-driver permit on July 1.

LTO Chief Edgar Galvante said on his live interview that the applicants for student-driver permits are now required to take a 15-hour theoretical driving course. This course will start on August 3 following the Memorandum Circular 2019-2175.

The aforementioned program was initially set to begin in April, but has been postponed to August due to the pandemic.

“By August 3, applicants are required to undergo a theoretical session that’s why the driving schools, as well as the LTO, already have a setup where they could enroll,”

– LTO Chief Edgar Galvante

The theoretical driving course will have three sessions. This will go hand-in-hand with a practical driving course which will tackle topics such as:

  • Introduction to driving
  • Road and traffic rules
  • Land transportation laws
  • LTO core applications (driver’s licensing system, vehicle registration, and law enforcement and ticketing systems)

Memorandum Circular No. 2019-2176 can be viewed in full through the LTO’s official website.

CCHD’S FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

  • Q: “Why the delay in reporting of deaths?”
    • A: Submission of death certificates from hospitals to CCHD may not always be on time as their death certificates are sometimes put on hold because of delay in the payment of bills.
  • Q: “Why wait for death certificates?”
    • A: As per protocol, COVID-related deaths are placed on the official list as soon as a death certificate is duly issued. It will be prudent on the part of government to base its reporting on official documents.
  • Q: “Why is the data being reported by your department different from the report by DOH?”
    • A: The report from DOH is based on the linelist (results) given by laboratories. The CCHD sanitizes that list. After thorough verification of our contact tracing team, CCHD culls out those that are not from the city and also extract those that are double entries. The data that CCHD presents are actual cases traced and identified by the city’s frontliners.

Sugboanons, let’s do our part. Don’t leave your homes unless necessary, practice good hygiene, get tested when advised by the local authorities, and follow the protocols.

Hacktivist Anonymous urges the public to delete TikTok

Anonymous, a well known hacktivist group, has released a statement through an affiliated Twitter account, @YourAnonCentral, warning the public regarding the security concerns of TikTok.

“Delete TikTok now; if you know someone that is using it explain to them it is essentially malware operated by the Chinese government running a massive spying operation.”

– YourAnonCentral via Twitter

A screenshot of a Reddit post was presented that claimed to have reverse-engineered the app and have listed the data collected by TikTok from its users.

  • Phone hardware (including CPU Type, number of course, hardware IDs, screen dimensions, DPI, memory usage, disk space, etc.)
  • Other apps installed on the device (including deleted apps)
  • Network-related information (such as IP, local IP, router MAC, your MAC, WiFi access point name)
  • Whether the device is rooted/jailbroken
  • GPS pinging every 30 seconds
  • And a local proxy server on your device for transcoding media

But this is not the only story here for Anonymous was also misrepresented on the app, as there has been a fake account set up.

“Anonymous has no TikTok account” and that the app is “created as spyware by the Chinese government.”

– Anonymous

TikTok has not yet commented on the allegations. Furthermore, there is also no confirmations yet regarding the Reddit post’s authenticity.

President Duterte signs ‘controversial’ Anti-Terror Bill into law

The controversial anti-terror bill has been signed by President Rodrigo Duterte. This was confirmed by Presidential spokesman Harry Roque in a text message to reporters on Friday.

Despite the massive cry to reconsider signing the aforementioned, President Duterte has already signed the controversial bill.

The anti-terror bill seeks to strengthen the Human Security Act of 2007. This is also to criminalize incitement of terrorism “by means of speeches, proclamations, writings, emblems, banners, or other representations.”

This bill would also allow the suspects to be detained for up to 24 days without charge. Furthermore, the anti-terror bill would empower an anti-terrorism council to designate suspects or groups as suspected terrorists who could be subjected to arrest and surveillance.
