Two of the leading airlines in the country, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific are all set to resume select domestic and international flights this June 2020 as the country shifts to a more relaxed community quarantine.
Both airlines ensure safety of the passengers and staff as they implement stricter preventive measures and sanitation protocols set by various international healthy and aviation organizations and local health authorities.
These are just some of the ‘new normal’ guidelines to note:
Disinfection and cleaning of aircrafts between flights and upon parking in boneyards.
Passengers will be required to wear face masks
Aircraft personnel will be required to wear personal protective equipment
Online check-in will also be encouraged to minimize contact with the ground personnel. They are advised to come to the airport at least three (3) hours early as check-in counters will be closed 60 minutes before the flight.
When carrying more than two luggage, assign only one representative to go to the baggage drop-off counter. Upon boarding, passengers will be required to hold out their boarding passes with the barcode facing the airline staff, for touchless scanning.
Always observe physical distancing as guided by the seat and floor markers, even when boarding through the aerobridge or buses.
Pilots and cabin crew members are required to undergo rapid antibody testing before boarding their flights.

If you think you’re ready for the new normal, Cebu’s biggest mall is at it too!
SM Seaside, preparing to welcome back its patrons, has implemented its health and safety protocols in preparation for its re-opening on Monday, June 1, as Cebu City has been placed under general community quarantine (GCQ).
From the doors to the stairs, and even the ATMs, SM Seaside made sure to give us a safer malling experience.
Because #YourSafetyMatters, we continue to thoroughly sanitize our mall as we get ready to welcome you back again!See you soon, Cebu! #SafeMallingAtSM 💙
With SM Supermalls’ #SafeMallingAtSM, our safety is always their top priority. More than re-opening, they made sure you’ll have a great time shopping, or just strolling.
SM also mentioned they have ‘Specialized Sanitation Team’ who will frequently disinfect high-touch areas including, but not limited to:
Grocery carts and baskets
Toilets
Hand rails
The mall will also be “deep-cleaned” before and after mall opening.
When we were in the midst of the crisis, and we still are, SM has been giving back to the community and it is only fitting for us to return the favor. Paying it forward per se.
Watch this video that summarizes the mall’s efforts to prepare for the new normal:
Now that the whole island of Cebu has been placed under general community quarantine (GCQ), some establishments have also been preparing to face our new normal. Ayala Center Cebu is one who is bringing its A-game in ensuring safety to the mall-goers.
Though Ayala Center Cebu ensures our safety, a purposeful shopping is still being encouraged. Only leave your homes when necessary.
Before they reopen their doors to welcome their patrons, Ayala Center Cebu has gone over and beyond to ensure the safety not only of the mall-goers, but also their merchants and frontliners.
Hence, following of these safety measures for the mall-goers must be adhered:
Mandatory wearing of face masks
Must present quarantine pass and valid ID (that shows the birth date) upon entry
Mandatory temperature check (37.5 degrees and up will be refused entry)
Use of sanitizing mats from the entrances as an entry protocol mandated by the IATF
Frequent handwashing in the restrooms is encouraged
Cashless transactions around the mall including parking are encouraged (using of GCash is recommended)
Use of automatic sanitizer dispenser is advised
Only 2 persons are allowed in the elevator (prioritizing the PWDs and pregnant women)
Foot markers are placed on the escalators to guide you on where to stand.
Ayala Center Cebu has also placed directional floor stickers and signages on the hallways and common areas to guide customers on the one-way traffic.
To ensure continuous operations and help in flattening the curve, let us do our part by adhering to the aforementioned guidelines.
While Ayala Center Cebu is making sure to implement these guidelines for us to follow, they are also doing their best to keep us safe from the scare of this pandemic.
Ayala Center Cebu makes sure to:
Let their merchant employees wear PPEs / face masks accordingly
Conduct regular cleaning and disinfection on common areas of the mall
Install hand sanitizers and alcohol around the mall premises
Use transaction boxes for merchant cashiers
Activate automatic doors for entrances and exits
Installation of contact-less thermal scanners on selected entrances is also taken into consideration
UV Sterilizers will be installed in selected escalators
However, while we are all elated about the mall’s opening, the establishment is also keen on following the government’s guidelines.
Enlisted below are the restrictions and limitations of mall amenities and services under GCQ:
Closure of play area and entertainment concepts
Closure of cinemas
Closure of chapel
Closure of some mall entrances and restrooms
Non-availability of their customer lounge
Valet parking services are suspended
Mall’s free Wi-Fi will be disabled
Digital mall directions will be disabled
Mall’s airconditioning units will be set to only 26-degree Celsius
DriveBuys
For shoppers who want to order from the stores but don’t want to go inside, Ayala Center Cebu has installed pick-up stations (like a drive-thru) that will serve as a meeting place between the merchant and the customers.
How does it work?
Customer and merchant must coordinate directly on the order and payment.
Both parties should agree on the date and time to meet at the chosen station.
Items will then be loaded directly into the customer’s car. Cashless payment is encouraged.
Pick-up stations:
1&2 – near Breadtalk, Active Zone
3&4 – near Laguna Garden, Biliran Road
5&6 – near Torque Lounge, Cardinal Rosales
Stores Opening in June 1
These are the merchants opening on June 1, 2020 at Ayala Center Cebu:
AYALA CENTER CEBU
New operating hours: 10AM to 7PM daily (essential stores may open earlier)

Remember the article about John Lloyd Cruz talking to a barangay official of Guadalupe about his plans on giving vitamins? He’s done it.
On a Facebook post of The Freeman, the oldest daily newspaper of Cebu, Cruz was seen donating boxes of medicines in Cebu City as promised. He’s given away vitamins for the kids and COVID-19 frontliners of Brgy. Guadalupe.
LOOK: Actor John Lloyd Cruz (in white shirt) fulfills promise to donate vitamins for children and COVID-19 frontliners…
Wearing a white shirt, black shorts, red cap, and a surgical mask, the actor was seen personally delivering his donations to the Barangay Hall.
Few days before this, the actor was also seen processing his Travel Authority certificate in the said barangay as he plans to travel back to Manila in June.
Thanks, Lloydie! You’re truly a man of your words.
As we are about to face the new normal, we have to make sure we are fully equipped with the right defense for the virus. One must-have is a face mask.
From N95 to KN95, a lot of kinds of face masks have been emerging in the country serving us with different purposes. But because of its scarcity and being expensive, a lot have resorted to sewing their own face masks, using cloth.
Both Regatta and Penshoppe have released their own versions of face masks for as low as P89. Imagine wearing your own reusable face masks, but with filter. Not only are you protecting the environment, you are also protecting yourself.

On Saturday afternoon, Cebu City Edgar Labella has ended the public’s confusion on Cebu City’s new classification as he has formally announced that Cebu City will be placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting on June 1, 2020.
This means, the whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cebu Province — is now all under GCQ.
It was previously reported the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID) initially placed Cebu City on modified ECQ; however, Cebu City Mayor Labella appealed to this decision and insisted that Cebu City has low mortality rate, making it ready for GCQ. This request was then granted by the IATF.
“Under GCQ, there will be more businesses that will reopen and public transport will resume operations but with reduced operating capacity. With Cebu City returning to GCQ, we need to remain vigilant against COVID19. Look out after each other and keep safe, Cebuanos!”
On Saturday, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia announced in a meeting with the town and city mayors of Cebu Province that she has appealed to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to place the Province of Cebu under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
“Figures cannot lie.” As per latest data, only 1 of the 18 recorded deaths among the COVID-19 cases in Cebu Province died because of it. Majority of the deaths were caused by the patients’ pre-existing medical conditions. Only 0.3 to 1 million (population) death ratio has been recorded.
Gwen also cited Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are “deadlier”, that even the TB is airborne as compared to coronavirus that is transmitted through droplets (spray of droplets during coughing and sneezing).
Moreso, most confirmed COVID-19 individuals in Cebu City are asymptomatic and have shown NO symptoms (no coughing / sneezing) while on weeks of isolation.
“Whether we like it or not, COVID will always be there. It is not the only disease in the entire world.” The governor said we should learn to live with the virus and make sure to boost our immune system. Only those who show symptoms of the coronavirus disease will be subject for swab testing.
Under MGCQ:
All persons are allowed to go out.
Up to 50% capacity on churches, restaurants, etc.
Gyms, barbershops, movies, sports are now allowed.
Governor Gwen said that the Province of Cebu is more than ready to move forward under the ‘more relaxed’ modified GCQ on June 1, 2020.
