HBO launches first horror anthology, the ‘Folklore’

Tired of the usual vampires and zombies you have been watching for years now? Just in time for Halloween, HBO brings the scares with the new horror series — the “Folklore”.

Drawing on local myths from Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, the six-episode hour-long series is set to premiere on October 7, 2018 with “A Mother’s Love”, an Indonesian horror story about a Javanese female demon.

“A Mother’s Love” brings the story of Murni, a single mother who struggles to give her son Jodi a normal life. After several quarrels with her landlord, she decides to pack up and take refuge in an old and empty mansion which she has just been hired to clean.

One night, their peaceful stay is interrupted by weird sounds all throughout the house. As she searches for its source, she discovers a group of malnourished children locked in the attic. Murni reports this to the authorities who then save the children and return them to their families. But what she doesn’t know is she has just stolen the children from their adoptive mother – Wewe Gombel. Now, Murni must beware of the demon’s wrath.

More scares!

“A Mother’s Love” will be followed by tales from Japan (“Tatami”) Singapore (“Nobody”), Thailand (“Pob”), Malaysia (“Toyol”), and Korea (“Mongdal”).

The Advocacy

Social awareness is defined as being aware of the problems that different societies and communities face on a day-to-day basis and to be conscious of the difficulties and hardships of society. As we improve social awareness, we also improve our experience of life, create opportunities for better work study life balance, become aware of other peoples emotions, and improve our ability to respond to change. Social issues include poverty, racism, bullying, opportunity inequality, mental health awareness, homelessness, LGBT issues, anti – abortion, education and much, much more. Anything that negatively affects people within a society, that people care about, can become a social issue.

The Rise Up and Unite advocacy concert aims to achieve and to reach out to the youth of today through music and arts. Most of us know the feeling of being moved by a work of art, whether it is a song, a play, a poem, a novel, a painting. When we are touched, we are moved; we are transported to a new place that is, nevertheless, strongly rooted and is a tool for expression. That is why arts and music is so powerful.

The Bands

December Avenue

December Avenue is a band that has become known for strong melodies with lyrics that really hit you in the heart; it has taken them a decade to break from the under the radar musical scene to breaking to the more established roster of OPM bands.

Silent Sanctuary

Silent Sanctuary is a 4-piece Filipino rock band that was formed in Metro Manila, Philippines in 2001. Five studio albums have been released by the band throughout its career. They are the band behind the hit songs: “Pasensya Ka Na”, “Kundiman”, “Sa’Yo”, among others.

The Ransom Collective

The Ransom Collective (also known as TRC and originally known as Kian Ransom) is a Filipino indie folk band based in Manila, Philippines. The band is best known for winning the first place at Wanderland Music and Arts Festival’s pre-event Wanderband competition last January 2014 and played at Wanderland 2014.

Café Dessart: The Trending Café in Cebu City

If you want to have a different coffee shop experience that is really something new, this is the best café for you!

There’s already a lot of cafés and coffee shops popping out in Cebu. Some are aesthetic-centered, while some focus on good food and others on perfect-blended coffees. But only very few actually offer all of the above. Café Dessart, the newest and one of the hippest cafés we have seen in Cebu, takes the coffee shop scene to the next level when it comes to overall customer satisfaction.

cafedessartcebu-1

Located at the 2nd Level of Northwood Square, F. Cabahug St. in Cebu City (near Burger King Panagdait / Sykes), Café Dessart promises to serve you a unique yet comfortable experience — from aesthetics to food and drinks that are new to your eyes, to virtual reality gaming (a first in a café). Not only that, it is also the first café in Cebu to introduce digital printing with personalized art on top of your coffee!

cafedessartcebu-2

cafedessartcebu-5

Personalized beverages…

What I love about Café Dessart is how they sway away from the typical café offerings. One of their unique products is the personalized art for your beverages — whether it’s a digital print of your face or someone else’s, or a latte art of something cute.

P.S. They are eco-friendly, too!

Just weeks ago, Café Dessart has implemented a new service aimed at targeting the single use plastic straws within the cafe. Here’s how it works:

  1. All drinks will be served on a Mason-Glass Jar, accompanied with a BAMBOO STRAW.
  2. An order isn’t considered completed unless a deposit of P30.00 is made. This P30.00 is 100% FULLY REFUNDABLE.
  3. If you decide to take the BAMBOO STRAW home, you may do so, if not, kindly return it to the bar-counter area and retrieve your P30.00.
  4. Upon your return: if you use & bring your own renewable, recyclable, compostable container + straw, you may enjoy a P5.00 discount.
  5. Alternatively, any beverage for “Take-Away” using our plastic containers and/ straw, will be charged with an extra P5.00.

Not your ordinary desserts and meals…

The menu has a wonderfully overwhelming amount to take in, from its drink selections to large array of sweets and round the clock meals.

THREE reasons why I love their food:
1. Servings are generous.
2. Aesthetically good, Instagram-worthy.
3. Really delicious!

Just look at these mouthwatering photos!

Virtual reality gaming…

DID YOU KNOW virtual gaming is the future? It is an interactive computer-generated experience taking place within a simulated environment. It will feel like you are inside the game! It’s the trending gaming system in the United States, and you can actually experience it at Café Dessart for as low as ₱50 per game!

Best-Tasting Cebu Lechon & More at Ayers Lechon

More than the undeniably beautiful beaches, rich culture, vibrant feasts, and amazing people, Cebu is known as the home of the best-tasting local delicacies — including its distinct lechon. In fact, Cebu lechon has always been touted as the best lechon in the Philippines where this is always present in special gatherings with friends and family.

Though lechon can be bought almost anywhere in Cebu, only very few can actually deliver — the tender juicy native and crispy lechon Cebuanos have always loved. Ayers Lechon, one of Cebu’s emerging suppliers of the best-tasting lechon, promises to live up to your expectations and fix your Cebu lechon cravings.

ayerslechon

Cebu’s Ayers Lechon is a popular Filipino restaurant in Cebu where you can get your hands not only on the mouth-watering Cebu lechon, but also other delicious native Filipino dishes.

Aside from the regular and spicy lechon, other best-sellers include Sizzling Lechon Sisig, Dugo-dugo, Paksiw, Prichon, and the new Lomi and Sinigang Lechon.

Food Menu

What also sets apart Ayers Lechon from others is, the restaurant has more than 10 branches all over Cebu — with one at Mactan Airport (Domestic Departure area). Its main branch is at Gate 777 across Cebu Country Club in Banilad.

Most of all, you will love their flagship store at Mango Square in General Maxilom Ave., Cebu City. They have live acoustic nights every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8PM. The area is very spacious, too!

Balay sa Busay: Feel at home and Dine at the Mountain-Top

6

There are a lot of things to do in Cebu. You can swim in the beach, you can chase waterfalls or you can have a glamping trip. Or you can feel at home and dine and enjoy the picturesque view at Balay sa Busay. It is where you experience the tastiest modern Filipino food while enjoying the unobstructed, magnificent view of Cebu.

Balay sa Busay is the newest mountain-top restaurant in Cebu and we just love everything about it.

balaysabusay-restaurantcebu-5
balaysabusay-restaurantcebu-3

Comfort food made interesting!

“There are always those hard times when we miss home cooked food. The feeling of eating at home with the taste that we know of… nobody can take that away”.

If this is what you are expecting from Balay sa Busay, we hate to burst your bubble because you will surely get more than the “familiar food” feel. It is comfort food made interesting.

balaysabusay-restaurantcebu-2

Balay sa Bulay serves modern Filipino food… recipes made with the Filipinos’ taste buds in mind. The resto makes use of native ingredients and used it differently. It is hard to find a word to describe how familiar, at the same time, distinct the food is. Two things for sure, the food is interesting and delicious!

We will just let these mouthwatering food photos below speak.

Balay sa Busay will also serve Lechon very soon. What a delight!

Cocktails and drinks are also available. The view is best enjoyed with a glass of Kyle’s Margarita!

MENU

The gorgeous house!

The view at Busay never fails to capture our hearts and Balay sa Busay have an unobstructed view of Cebu. Great food with a great view, what more can we ask.

The restaurant gives off a very comfortable feeling and a lot of breathing. The high ceiling, the home-like interior and almost every part is Instagrammable. I mean it, because even the comfort room has a vanity mirror.

Dining in the alfresco area with a magnificent view is a pleasant experience. And it sure would be heart-melting to be dining surrounding with fog.
