Despite having been a banger in
2016, Sarah Geronimo’s “Tala” has only rose to fame in the last quarter
of 2019. People of different ages and stages have been grooving to its iconic
dance moves.
However, just when we have thought that its phase in the dancing arena has surpassed, here is yet another cover from our well-loved Cebuano champions. Unlike the other covers that have been circulating on the internet, Cebuanos surely like to take it up a notch – the dancesports way!
Philippines’ prides, Grand Champion in the Dancesport category (Salsa, Rumba, and Chacha) during the recently concluded SouthEast Asian Games: Pearl Marie Cañeda and Wilbert Aunzo, didn’t disappoint!
They made sure to groove in every
move and sway along the way. They may have not copied the steps of the iconic
“Tala,” they made sure it’s still worth watching and of course,
sharing.
Trust me if I tell you, the “Tala” dance craze, as of this writing, is showing no signs of being buried in the hatchet. Yup, it’s not going to die down soon.
Cebu is on its way to the top globally and is now making waves even in the shipbuilding industry.
The vehicle-passenger ferry, Fjord Line’s FSTR (Hull 419), is the largest aluminum vessel ever constructed and launched in the Philippines – and the largest (by volume) ever constructed by Austal, worldwide.
To be known as FSTR, this 109 metre high-speed catamaran ferry was launched by Austal Philippines in their shipyard in Balamban, Cebu.
Trivia: A catamaran is a multi-hulled watercraft featuring two parallel hulls of equal size. It is geometry-stabilized and derives its stability from its wide beam.
Hull 419 was made by approximately 1,000-strong Filipino shipbuilding team utilizing local skills and expertise in design, engineering and shipbuilding.
I am exceptionally proud of the entire Austal Philippines team. The launch of Hull 419 from our newly expanded shipyard is a significant event that highlights our capability to deliver multiple projects concurrently – safely and cost effectively.

Being single on February 14 isn’t really a
bad thing.
It’s just that this day makes us very aware of that — a “Single Awareness Day” as popularly called.
Well, I say this to every single person out there, and I mean all types of single: Valentine’s is not really equal to “Couples Day”, it is a Love Day. We can do whatever we want and celebrate this day in our own way.
And if you’re still not sure on what you’ll do, we’ve got you covered! Head down to our list and seize the day.
Enter Watsons
The “naa rakoy tan’awn” line has been wasted too much on this store.
Known as a trap for luring the ladies, with skin care products and essentials, Watsons (this is not a sponsored article btw) would be the store to lose yourself into. They have the “love yourself” essentials. Not just for the ladies but for the gents too, they might be shy about it but they definitely want some of that moisturizer masks.

Pamper yourself
Look good and feel good. Instead of stressing it out, the sweetest revenge for all those couples out there is to take care of yourself. Dress nicely, go to a salon get a mani/pedi, a haircut. Have facials or better yet get a long nice massage. Flaunt that pampered and glowing you.
Whatever mood you are in, the splashing kind, the thrilling or cold, whatever company you keep, may it be the animals on land or of the deep seas. The good thing about these places is that you can go there alone, and still get the best experience. Fingers crossed, they are less likely to have love declarations.
Don’t connect into any social media and just live like an hermit. If you are the type of person who doesn’t really want to see or hear anything about Valentine’s, then you have to avoid it like the plague. Use this time then for more important things like finishing your favorite Netflix series.
Go on a hike
The greatest escape from Valentine’s comes with the best view. You will be least likely to see flowers and hearts here, and even the color red. The color dominating this activity would just be a nice and refreshing green.
Work out all those frustrations and have the perfect escape of the lovey, dovey city.
Misery loves company. Kidding aside, being with them will make the day funnier, what with all the “chesmes” and life updates. You can be drunk as much as you want, and be the life of the party and there will be no one to stop you.
Shop till you
drop or shall I say, shop till your wallet drops. Valentine’s day is expensive
for a person who’s in a relationship. But for singles? Money saved! You can
splurge on yourself as much as you can. Reward yourself for all your struggles and
hardwork in life. Before any love, there is self love.
Strut and shop.
Be the valentine
Buy flowers or gifts and give it to the people you love: your family, friends and workmates. Spread love and kindness. This action is actually very fulfilling and heart warming.
Being with your significant other on Valentine’s Day sounds like a great idea.
However, not everyone can afford to spend thousands on a fancy dinner, a bouquet of flowers, a movie date, or a getaway.
Well, you don’t have to be indebted on Valentine’s Day to impress your babe. You can always have a good time on a budget.
Enlisted are 8 swoon-worthy ways to celebrate the Heart’s Day
without having to go broke.
1. COOK YOUR FAVORITE DISH
TOGETHER
You don’t have to go to a fancy restaurant to dine and savor your favorite dish. You can stay at home and cook your favorite dish together.
You can also discover and try different recipes. It’s surely
going to be a fun and productive bonding while saving a lot of money.
2. GO HIKING
It is always best to find solace in this chaotic world. We
all need to recharge ourselves to make sure we are still on the right track.
If you have no time to go to the nearest peak, just go to a walk with your significant other. Someplace quiet is always good for a conversation.

3. STARGAZE
To someone who has been so in love with a clear night sky,
this is definitely my ideal date. If you share the same interest, go ahead and
lay on your picnic blanket while watching the stars.
Check on the constellations. Who knows, you might also catch a falling star.
4. PLAY GAMES
You can always stay at home and just play cards, board games, dice games, or even Mobile Legends.
Maybe a ‘Never Have I Ever’ portion would be nice, too? Get to know your partner in depth this Valentine’s, okay?
5. EXCHANGE HANDMADE CARDS
If you’re one who appreciates the traditional way of courting
and is very laidback, handwritten love letters are the way to go!
You can not only save much, you will also appreciate it more because of the effort having been put into it.
6. ADOPT/VISIT A PET
If you both like pets, you need not to give your partner one
that has been bought from a pet shop and pay thousands for it.
You can always go to the nearest pet shop, adopt one, and take good care of it like your own baby. Else not, you can just visit these pets and play with them for the day.

7. GO ON A ROADTRIP
You can always ditch the busy streets of Cebu and go
somewhere North or South. You can also go uphill and enjoy the cold night
breeze.
You can opt to just chill and talk about your future. Discuss things. Be mature.
This is probably the most underrated and I must say is the
most important. In this busy era, we’re so busy working for our future
forgetting that we have already lost contact of the people around us.
This is the best time for you to reflect and discuss about
your future plans. You can also talk about your finances and cuddle thereafter.
It’s always nice to cap the day with a mature conversation.
Breaking up is a nasty business. I’m sure that no matter the circumstances, it’s not going to be pretty.
So if you’re thinking
of breaking it up with someone or ending anything for that matter, the least
you could do is do it somewhere nice.
Be decent enough and
think of that other person, choose a place on our list and you’re saved.
1. Anjo World Theme Park
If you are going to break someone’s heart, might as well do it in the “happiest” place in Cebu. I know it’s ironic but there are extreme rides where they can scream their heart out. The adrenaline rush would make them feel alive and even have the Ferris Wheel for some 200-ft high peace.
Everything is here. The busiest hub in Cebu City. It’s very busy that a disturbed heart can just be lost with all the partying, a heartfelt videoke, a stomach filling or just a music chill, one can never feel alone.
3. Samgyupsal
Nothing comforts a heart more than food. And nothing is more fulfilling than just stuffing your mouth with all the meat that you can eat. Be a dear and treat that person to the nearest samgyup before you say anything, because a hungry stomach on an emotional situation isn’t a very good idea.
It’s cold, and calm and overlooking. The place itself already sets the mood. Hopefully, the calmness of the place gives way to a peaceful and mutual breakup. And if not, at least the view is great and one can scream at the top of their lungs and curse you in all of Cebu.
This cafe has the perfect, stress and anger reliever. There’s also a part in the cafe where you can break plates as much as you can. If that doesn’t count as satisfyingly good, I don’t know what will. Just let them imagine, it’s your face they are breaking and you’re good.
Sweets will sweeten the mood. They make
people happy and are therefore less likely to get you slapped in the face. Plus, once the deed is done,
those mouth watering cakes and pastries are the perfect comfort food for them.
Be a dear and let them have their coffee fix or milktea fix. Get them their favorites and indulge them. Those fix will save you. It will be something that they’ll hold on to. A taste of sanity and happiness. You will also be most likely to be ordered to go away because it’s their special place and space.
You got to unleash your sweaters
because we’re in for cold weeks ahead.
According to the Philippine
Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA),
Cebuanos are to expect colder weather in the coming weeks until the end of
March.
The northeast monsoon, locally
known as amihan, will continue to
affect Cebu and is expected to bring colder winds and lower temperatures, said
the state wea
Last week, PAGASA recorded the
coldest day in Metro Cebu, dropping to 22 degrees Celsius. They also said that
Cebu’s temperature in the coming days ranges from 23 degrees Celsius to 29
degrees Celsius.
In lieu with this, you can break out your sweaters and visit some spots in the Metro to enjoy the cold weather even more.
Cebuanos are fans of romance,
which is why they don’t take it easily when the matters of our hearts don’t
work in our favour.
We’re just lucky that we can always turn to Cebuano music to help us get through our heart-breaking phase. These new VisPop songs express what our mouths couldn’t utter, but our hearts could feel.
This Valentine’s, expect to fall in love with the latest, heartbreaking singles of Kurt Fick and Jacky Chang.
“Abby”
Kurt Fick is set to release his new single about a multi-layered story of unrequited love which started from wrong assumptions. A portion of this song writes: “Abi nako’g ikaw na ang akong the one… ug abi ko’g wa ka nasayod nga duna pud siya’y lain nga uyab.”
Written by Barry Villacarillo, “Abby” won first runner up in the recently concluded 40th Cebupop Music Festival.
Release date: February 14, 2020
Streaming on: Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
“Husto ka, pero husto na”
On the other hand, just like Kurt, Jacky Chang is also known for having released Pero Atik Ra, another tearjerker. Together with Kurt, Jacky Chang is also set to release her new single about finally giving up on a failing relationship. Written by RJ Ensalada, “Husto Ka Pero Husto Na,” has an excerpt of: “Mura’g ikaw ray tawo ning kalibutana, nikalit ra ka’g sibat, nadala ra sad ko… Husto ka pero husto na.”
Release date: February 16, 2020
Streaming on: Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
May these songs help you get through the dark abyss of your heartache. We can’t wait to sing these songs alongside the brokenhearted during Valentine’s.
Make sure you upload your videos singing the songs and tag us @sugboph so we can share it, too! Support local, padayon Bisaya!
Valentine’s
Day celebrates all kinds of love, even the love that is not romantic – yet. *winks
For the past
years, reports show that the percentage of people who have not settled yet has
increased due to a number of reasons:
#1: They clearly choose to be.
#2: They wish to know more about themselves and what they truly want before they can share their life with someone else.
#3: They are allowing room to decide, maturely, if the person or the relationship is right.
#4: They think it takes too much of their time because of the getting-to-know-each-other stage.
But, thanks to the explosion of matchmaking sites, finding potential partners has never been, well, not easy but, less complicated.
Although,
there are thousands of dating applications which have emerged the past two
decades to help people make personal connections, here’s a list of some of the
most famous dating sites you could try:
1. Tinder
Tinder is known by starting the swiping craze in dating apps. Users only have two choices when searching for potential partners: swipe left, which means that the person is not your cup of tea, or swipe right if you wish to know more about the person. If both users swiped right, it means that a match was made. As simple as that.
Website: https://tinder.com or download the app on App Store or Play Store.
2. Facebook Dating
If you still don’t know yet, inside the Facebook app or website is an online dating feature that works like Tinder. This offers convenience to the Facebook users who might be able to find “The One” among their friend list.
Website: facebook.com or just look for the ‘Dating’ tab on your Facebook app.
3. Match.com
This dating site, which was launched 24 years ago, has become famous because of its features which allow users or daters to find their match. It is the world’s largest dating online company serving over 50 countries in 12 different languages all over the world.
Over 90 million connections every year, this online dating site has become the first major site with an application. It asks a lot and thorough questions upon signing in which help in finding the person you are really compatible with.
Bumble has the same feature with Tinder. It also follows the swiping craze format in finding your match. According to the most recent data, the app has 58 million users, with 67.4% being male and 32.6% being female.
For the members of the LGBTQA+ family, worry not because Grindr is the right dating site for you. It is the world’s largest social dating site which is created for the bi, transgender, gay, and queer people.
Launched in 2012, this online dating site is known to have more women users than men. It is designed to focus more on having good conversations rather than looking and judging the other user through their photos.
This famous mobile dating site is perfect for those who wish to date Asian women. It primarily features Filipino women but also include women from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and other Asian countries.
It is true that online dating has its pros and cons, but remember that at the end of the day, your primary goal in dating online is to take your relationship offline, so, swipe wisely.
Sure, confessing to your crush how you
feel, at first, would seem really difficult.
But if you’re really up for it, you’d find
creative ways to confess, stepping up your game among his/her other admirers.
If done right under the right circumstances, these suggested ideas would surely
make anyone melt their hearts in awe.

Recreate scenes from her favorite movies/TV shows.
Since you’ve already gone
this far, you already know her well enough and that includes her interests. Make
references to her favorite shows and once she notices, she’ll be reminded of
how thoughtful you were to her interests, and I think that’s a big plus.
Create a playlist exclusively for her.
At this digital age, creating
playlists in streaming services like Spotify is the equivalent of creating
mixtapes like our parents did back in the 90s. Compiling your favorite songs
that you think would mean a lot if listened by the one you love is a romantic
gesture that makes the other person see that you really think of them.
Arts and crafts never fail.
If you have the knack when
it comes to scrapbooking, then go for this one. Personalized flip books or
scrapbooks containing pictures of you together or any personalized items in it
is a sincere way of telling that person you love how much they mean to you.

Ask help from your friends
As The Beatles would sing,
“Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends!”. Recruiting your friends to
help you in this pursuit of performing this grand gesture to your beloved is a
surefire way to express your love. You can either organize with them to put up
banners or signs that display your love and affection, or if you’re lucky, if
some of them knows how to play the guitar, then a harana is something that could pull a modern Filipina’s
heartstrings.
Use your skills.
It pays to know a thing or
two. Whether it be in cooking, painting, singing, or anything, doing something
you love for the one you love is a grand gesture that will surely be
appreciated.
Play the anonymous cupid.
If you’re not the
straightforward type (and there’s nothing wrong with that), then being subtle
in confessing could also work. Leave notes on her desk, drop random gifts on
her locker or think of anything until he/she can figure it out. Sometimes, a
little bit of mystery could also make things thrilling.
Give her a bouquet of flowers and a handwritten letter.
This is the most classic way
of confessing to your adored one. It’s straightforward and can easily get your
message across. The only thing that you would be creative for is the bit where
you finally tell your feelings.
The mentioned ideas. If he/she really likes
you back, even the simplest gesture can be appreciated. If not, then that’s
fine, just make sure that you still leave some of that overpouring love for
yourself (I speak from experience).
