With the ongoing lockdown and enhanced community quarantine in different parts of the country, local airline companies are taking their part in helping by allowing their passengers to cancel their flights until this month’s end. This is due to the mandated order by the government in continuing the Luzon-wide lockdown.
AirAsia, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific announced that both of their domestic and international flights will remain suspended until the end of the month, April 30.
Air Asia
AirAsia customers who have cancelled their flights will be notified thru SMS or e-mail, the company announced.
Travelers who booked on or before March 22 with a departure date until May 31 may change their travel dates before October 31 for the same route. If not, they also have the option to convert their trip into credits for future use.
Philippine Airlines
Customers in Philippine Airlines who had their trips cancelled has the option to convert their ticket into a travel voucher valid for a year, rebook or reroute, or avail a refund with no penalties. However, the company announced that they can only process the changes in booking after the quarantine period.
Cebu Pacific
On the other hand, Cebu Pacific are encouraging their passengers with affected flights to have them rebooked for free, avail of a travel fund or ultimately, get a full refund. They also announced that the refund process will commence on May 4, the latest date the quarantine is expected to be lifted.
With these measures taken by airline companies, the spread of the deadly virus is significantly reduced. We can only hope that it will end as soon as possible.
Manny Villar, the Filipino billionaire businessman and presidential candidate back in 2010, is listed as the Philippines’ wealthiest person in the Forbes Magazine’s 2020 international list of billionaires among fifteen other Filipino tycoons.
In fact, he has been Forbes’ Wealthiest Filipino last year, making it his second consecutive year of keeping the title. Manny Villar’s net worth is estimated to be at US $5.7 billion, which is around 288 billion in Philippine pesos.
Manny Villar’s success comes from his business of building houses and properties starting back in 1975. He is now the chairman of Starmalls, one of Philippines largest mall operators, and Vista & Landscapes, the country’s largest homebuilder.
It is noteworthy that he has remained as the wealthiest Filipino during this time with the Coronavirus affecting even the world economics.
“There are 2,095 billionaires on the 2020 ranking, down from 2,153 in 2019, the total combined net worth of this year’s billionaires is $8 trillion, down from $8.7 trillion in 2019.”
– Forbes said in a statement
However, they also stated, “amid the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the world’s wealthiest are serving as agents of change and taking action to reinvent their businesses to aid in the global response to the coronavirus outbreak.”
Villar aims to become the Philippines’ largest home building firm has succeeded, which is a remarkable story since he came from small beginnings. The businessman grew up in Manila’s slums helping on delivering seafood to his mother, who was a fish and shrimp vendor.
Back in 2006, Manny Villar told Asia Week that he wanted to set an example to Filipino entrepreneurs, and now he is one indeed.
Here are the Filipinos with a net worth of at least $1 billion, according to Forbes:

“Welcome back, home! You will always be remembered for opening the horizons of space to the Philippines.” – (STAMINA4Space)
After 4 years of being in space, Diwata-1, the Philippines’ first locally designed and developed microsatellite, fell back to earth on April 6.
It has exceeded everyone’s expectations as it stayed longer in service since it was launched to the International Space Station on March 26, 2016, and sent into orbit on April 27, 2016. Diwata-1 was meant to only last for 18 months in space.
Made by Filipino engineers through a satellite program in Japan, the microsatellite has been described to be just as big as a balikbayan box and weighed around 50 kilograms.
“We confirm that today, 6 April 2020 at 04:49 a.m. Philippine Standard Time (PST), Diwata-1 was at an altitude of approximately 114km based on telemetry data received from the satellite. This altitude is very close to the Karman line, or the widely accepted boundary between outer space and the Earth’s atmosphere. It is expected that beyond this altitude, the chances of successfully establishing contact with Diwata-1 are extremely low. This, therefore, marks the official end of the mission lifetime of Diwata-1,”

“There’s no better time for me to be Miss England and helping England at a time of need,” Miss England 2019 said.
Bhasha Mukherjee, was a junior doctor specializing in respiratory medicine before she joined Miss World 2019. Hence, when the need arises and England needs her most, she is putting her crown on the shelf (temporarily) to help fight the pandemic COVID-19.
Though she has planned to put her medical career on hold after bringing home her Miss England sash to travel for humanitarian efforts, she is now just as focused on the coronavirus battle.
While Mukherjee was on one of her travels, she has been constantly receiving messages from former colleagues about the worsening cases hence, her need to pick up where she left off.
“I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work,” she said.
Mukherjee returned to England on April 6, but needs to self-isolate for two weeks. Though she knows that all hands will be on deck once she’s cleared from quarantine.
May we all take it from Mukherjee, to always help. If we can’t think of ways to help, just pray. Pray for the people who can help so they’d be given proper guidance to discern.
