The Spectacular Conjunction of 2021

Don’t we love the night sky? It’s a marvelous sight to behold. It reminds us of how small and insignificant our problems are in the grand scheme of things. And its times like these that occurs every once in a while, that continues to mystify us.

A few days ago, we had experienced a spectacle! A conjunction, in astrology, is used when in the event of two or more planets come closer to each other or when the line-up, occurs.

From November 10, 2021, we saw the moon passed by Saturn when the two were close with each other at around 8:00 PM.

Then of November 11, the moon and Jupiter came within four degrees of each other, that gave the pair quite the display for everyone down here to admire.

Amateur astronomographists took the action during the event, and snapped one of the coolest looking shots that has graced the internet so far this month!

You should share your photos of the conjunction with us! We’d like to see and hear from your experiences during the phenomenon.

E-cigarettes, hazardous towards health: new study

0

On an article posted on November 11 2021 from Philstar, a conducted survey during September 6 – 11 of 2021, the commissioned survey publicly revealed their data results that 77% of the respondent finds that vapes or recreational usage of an electronic cigarette poses a health hazard towards the user’s health. Whereas, 15% results that it is only a minor hazard, and the other 2% say it isn’t.

And in regards to its policy towards using vapes in public areas, in the survey – the results are 13% for those who doesn’t approve of it, whereas the 74% of the respondents wants it to be implemented in public areas, the rest of the 12% are still undecided towards this matter.

Photo from unsplash.com by VapeClubMY

I have been to a few places in Cebu where I spot individuals using vapes, though from what I’ve only seen and know is that vape users vary from how or where they use it; most I’ve met are aware of their surroundings, where others don’t. But the question of whether policy/laws permits it, remains in questioned.

To my fellow cloud blowing Sugboanons, as far as we know it – it’s not entirely illegal to use vaping gadgets on your own dime – your health, your choice. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if certain establishments will have their own opinions and policies to the subject matter; so as long as wherever you use it – be mindful.

Then again, I’m not one to add to the discussions of the merits or risks that comes along in using a vape – but this is quite subject one has to question themselves from time to time.

This also doesn’t mean that the vape industries aren’t trying to utilize safety towards their users; maybe there are less harmful methods. But until then, we’re not there yet – so we ought to be responsible.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Maybe we’ll to find a good approach between these two from the spectrum without scrapping one from the other.

Cebu City targets 70% herd immunity

2

There’s this thing called: “Herd immunity”, for an instance, when a mass number of people have a formula, design to make you immune to a particular disease, it is likely to reduce the chances of spreading the virus – since almost all of them have the formula of immunity to protect themselves from it.

Since then, the Philippines has accumulated a number of vaccines available for everyone – our local governments even encouraged us to take it so that the city will reach the 70% herd immunity; now I can understand how one chooses not to take the vaccination, and even if you don’t, I sure hope you’re doing your part in keeping yourself and everyone around you, safe – then again you are not wrong to say no.

Photo from unsplash.com by Ed Us

In Cebu Hall, Mike Rama had announced that a ₱20,000 worth of Christmas bonus will be given to vaccinated City Hall employees, and that they advocate unvaccinated employees to take their vaccination shots.

Some would find that unacceptable or as a form of discrimination towards the unvaccinated individuals, the incentives given to the vaccinated also comes from the unvaccinated, so you can see where the division is coming from.

I really hope that we, as persevering and perceptive Sugboanons, can come to find a way to reach the 70% herd immunity – not from cash incentives, or taking from other people’s hard-earned efforts that will only benefit one from the other; maybe we ought to figure something else out.

Do you think this was a good idea? Or if not, what do you think will help reach our 70% herd immunity? I’m sure me and among many other concerned folks like you are looking for a better way.

Soon to rise: P1-Billion ‘Mahi by AppleOne’ in Mactan

Hello, fellow readers! Today’s article is brought to you by Sugbo.ph in partnership with Cebu-based development company: AppleOne Properties Inc.

Okay, fine this isn’t sponsored – this is, however, about AppleOne Properties – specifically, their latest project in Cebu; MAHI. The company is said to have allocated around P1 billion for the construction.

Mahi is your IT Hub center and Cebu’s lifestyle destination that stands to have a five-story building and a property that stretches about 7,500 square meters lot in M.L. Quezon Avenue in Mactan Lapu-Lapu. The establishment will have its own dedicated spaces for different kinds of businesses.

Retail and commercial spaces

Kick back and enjoy a week or two of leisure in Miha’s Marriott’s Fairfield Inn & Suites, with 12 floors, 180 rooms available to accommodate guests, and a hotel crew ready to accommodate you and your needs, 24/7.

There are commercial & retail spaces that will allocate 41% of the business space and revenue as well, which offers various favorite retail outlets and stores centers opened for guests and business owners to ensure your insatiable shopaholic addiction is to be catered for!

It will also have amenities such as fine-dining restaurants, and a rooftop bar – because nothing says “I have class” like being in a rooftop bar. Apparently.

Premier Businesses

The building will be a five-story office building within Mahi’s vicinity, where it will primarily be focused on the IT business.

The office environment is designed to look professional and vibrant, where each floor has glass windows that overlook the area and maybe even get a glimpse of Mactan.

Common utilities and facilities

29% of the development is directed towards the common utilities; such as water, drainage/sewer system, sanitation, and electricity. Logistics that focus on these utilities help a long way in the up-keep and operation of the site.

This project could be beneficial for businesses and even attract tourists in the future.

The Iconic Spin of SM MOA Globe, just a publicity stunt for new Netflix movie

SM Mall of Asia’s iconic globe in Pasay City was reportedly “stolen” on November 13, Saturday night, and a netizen caught the shenanigan. A Facebook profile named Chester Allan Tangonan posted an 18-second clip showing the iconic globe being “lifted” from a helicopter.

SM MOA Globe “got stolen”

It did not take long for the shocking news to spread like wildfire and Pinoy netizens  were quick to hypothesize the whole MOA Globe shenanigan. SM Mall of Asia’s management then posted a public notice which stated, “SM Mall of Asia is currently working with authorities in investigating the MOA Globe incident. With our security measures in place, rest assured that the SM Mall of Asia continues to be a safe space for your family and friends.”

The incident remained mysterious as to who or what took it and how and why it happened in the first place. And then Netflix entered the scene. No one had probably speculated about them until they posted a video on their Fb page on Sunday with a caption, “You may or may not have missed the biggest con while you were sleeping 👀 I know who did it, and the Red Notice is out for them 🚨”.

https://www.facebook.com/netflixph/videos/1312977535816567

As it turned out, the “stolen” globe of MOA is part of Netflix’s promotional stunt for its film Red Notice. The movie’s star-studded casts include Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. It had a short run in selected cinemas on November 5 and premiered on November 12.

The globe is now finally back to its place but with scaffolding. The management posted another statement thanking netizens for their concern about the incident and “will temporarily put the area under ‘Red Notice.’”

The whole SM MOA globe incident garnered mixed reactions from netizens.

Here are some of them:

“sana wag nyo gawin sa madaling araw hirap matulog kakaisip kung bakit HAHAHA”

– JEK, C

“ginagawa niyo talaga kaming joke e no”

– Abode, A.

“Ayyy pakkk my pa-eme ang MOA NETFLIX CHILLS yarns??”

– Mae Ann, C.

hiniram lang pala ni Miley Cyrus, nag shooting lang siya ng music video, “‘wrecking ball part 2.’”

– Kai

“Am sorry but this is an overly complicated stunt just to promote something that has been on Netflix for like…weeks?

Not the best from Netflix to be perfectly honest.”

– Kristel A.

“Trust me, no one was concerned. We were all laughing hahahaha”

– Jeric, S.

“there is a penalty on spreading fake news right? anything that may cause alarm to the public, may official statement pa from the page itself and made headlines.. this is not funny at all”

– Lauren, C.

“Sabi nga sa palabas, pag nainis ka sa kontrabida, ibig sabihin effective siya sa role niya. So pag naniwala ka dito wag ka magalala, dika shunga o kung ano pa man. Tapos yung nga marites naman na di daw dapat ginagawang biro na ninakaw yung globo, mga marites nga kayo. Dagdag bawas kayo sa balita.”

– Justin, Q.

Trending: Meet the Strong, Independent ‘Single Bride’ from Mandaue City, Cebu

They say that you have to love yourself first because that is the only person with who you will be spending the rest of your life with.

True enough for this woman who has proven herself to be the strong, independent woman every girl has aspired to become. Yes, she has decided to become her own bride.

The bride from Mandaue City needed no groom to have her own fairytale. She has always dreamt of wearing her own wedding gown during her wedding, but after her fair share of failed relationships, she thought it was so close to being impossible.

“ang story niya is pirme lang daw siya sawi sa pag ibig, maski gihatag na niya ang tanan but walay good return sa iyaha, and dream jud daw niya mag wedding gown but para niya impossible na mahitabo. so nag pa prenup siya solo og na sul-ob og wedding gown para maka experience siya,” says Nexley Ramirez.

Photographed by Mark Ramirez Photography, Josaly surely is living her own fairytale. I mean, why not? No one needs a man if you can do it all to yourself. Best wishes, Josaly!
