From P600 Capital, Homemade Siomai Business now earns P600k a month

We have embraced siomai long ago as a favorite dish here in the Philippines, especially in Cebu. Siomai sa Tisa has been and is still the talk of the town whenever it comes to siomai and we never forget to order it in dimsum diners.

It is literally everywhere in every corner that it makes you wonder if it’s a good business idea and if the profit is worthy of considering.

Teresita Barrientos certainly thinks so, as her homemade siomai business has been thriving for 17 years. Named Ayo’s Siomai, it became a favorite among their neighbors with it being sold out day after day.

Now the secret is shared, as they say that they only use pure ground pork with no additives. This top-notch quality of purely natural ingredients is what brought their customers to them.

Teresita lost her job amid the pandemic which became a blessing in disguise as it paved the way for her to focus on their siomai business.

With a starting capital of only P500, she and her husband tried to maximize their market by working on two separate stalls in different locations but was proven to be difficult so they turned to social media to promote their business and voila, it became a “blockbuster” hit.

They are now earning P20,000 every day and could even reach P50,000 a day.

How to make homemade siomai

  1. Prepare salt, pepper, crushed onions, egg, ground pork.
  2. Mix everything together.
  3. Fold and prepare the ground pork in a dumpling wrapper.
  4. Steam it for 10 minutes.

Note: Don’t overcrowd your steamer.

Huwag susuko, dapat kailangan laban lang para maabot natin ang mga pangarap natin,

Teresita

Starting something and working for it will pay off in the end and Teresita’s siomai just proved it again.

Philippines as the Ultimate Retirement Destination in Asia

We all got to retire at some point and believe it or not. Our country is the best place to retire.

This is not just a proclamation but an observed fact backed with data. Retirees especially “expats,” a person who lives outside their native country have three vital criteria to consider when they settle — its affordability, living standards, and sustainability.

Photo from Unsplash

The Philippines effortlessly fits all of the above criteria becoming the prime retirement destination in Asia, with over 3.7 million foreign tourists in mid-2018 to prove just that.

Here are four solid reasons why the Philippines is the perfect fit for you to retire.

1. High standard of living at a much lower cost

In short, it’s cheap. You don’t have to be very rich to live comfortably in the Philippines. You already have access to great weather, fresh air, lush mountains, beautiful beaches, beautiful scenery, and rich culture all for free. The wealth in natural resources and the lower cost of living are the main reasons why expats choose to retire in the Philippines. Expats can live comfortably at $800-$1200 a month so it’s like vacation all-year-round if they live here in the Philippines.

2. Hospitality and Fluency

We all know that Filipinos are known for their hospitality but it doesn’t hurt for it to be proven with data. A study on expat global views in 2017 revealed that 45% of expats residing in the Philippines “felt like home instantly or in less than six months”. It also showed that 56% of expats felt that Filipinos welcome people regardless of race, faith, gender, or sexual orientation. The Filipinos are also fluent in English which makes the adjustment easier.

3. Investments and incentives are aplenty

The Philippines’s hospitality doesn’t end in interaction though as it also provides several special benefits for expats and foreign retirees. From a government agency dedicated to attracting and assisting expats to them receiving a duty-free import of $7000 worth of household goods. The country is also famous for foreign retirees starting businesses and investments. One result of the survey/study mentioned earlier is that 52% found better personal fulfillment working in the Philippines than in their home countries.

4. No-hassle permanent residency for foreign retirees.

Retirees avoid a hassle at all costs which is why retiring in the Philippines is a perfect choice for them as documentation processing here is so swift for them. Constantly renewing visas doesn’t seem to be worth the headache of the other choice of countries.

In the Philippines, once you are a permanent resident, you get to stay in the Philippines for as long as you wish. You can leave and return without ever re-applying for residency.

It truly is a dream to stay and retire here in the Philippines.

NBA Mop Boy & Floor Sweeper’s Average Salary is P4 Million in 2022

3

The average salary of an NBA floor cleaner in the United States (US) this 2022 is $80,000 per year.

Yes. You didn’t read it wrong. A mop boy in the National Basketball Association (NBA) is earning an average of about P4,115,200 per year. Now if that won’t let you want to mop floors, I don’t know what will.

Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, United States | Photo from Unsplash

They can even get paid at most $100,000 that is more than P5 million. It all depends on the years of experience with the lowest of less than two years which is $39,000 (P2M+) per year, more than that is $80,000 (P4M+) per year and if you have more than 5 years under your belt, you would earn $95,000 (P4.8M+) per year.

Photo from Kim Klement

Now what does this job entails?

  • A mop boy, sweeper and floor cleaner’s main job are to keep the court clean.
  • They also must keep the basketball court dry from sweat and water at all times.
  • Constant mopping of floors as players run around and dive.
  • Help in setting up the benches.
  • Loading and unloading gears may also be part of the work.

Now to be hired as an NBA floor cleaner is much more careful than we think it is. It’s not just showing up but it is essential that you have the required set of skills, experience, and education.

Photo from Unsplash

Each team has different methods in hiring but one thing is for sure that would help is make an impression.

If you’re interested in working here though, you can visit NBA.com and look for their vacancies or go to indeed.com and LinkedIn as well.

We might be surprised and in awe of the salary but it is a physically demanding job as well. Though for us Filipinos it is already very big considering how the most hardworking people in this country don’t earn that much.

Cebuana Single Mom built Dream House without borrowing money

Raising a kid is surely hard enough but raising them with no partner is a struggle indeed.

Being a single mom did not deter Wendee Arriesgado from Cebu to provide a beautiful home to her three children though.

Photo from Wendee Arriesgado

With an estimated total expense of P700,000, she built her two-story dream house. What’s pretty impressive about this is that she built this from her own salary savings and not a loan.

Wendee shared that the budget and discipline she practiced to get there were tough.

She was living with her three kids in Cebu City before but soon realized that the living arrangement in a city won’t work for her family. There were rents and amortization to think about every month and as a lone breadwinner, living in the city proved to be too hard.

In 2019, Wendee decided to live someplace in the province where she can build a house and call it their own. They chose Daanbantayan, Cebu, to settle down as she also wants to be near the sea.

Photo from Wendee Arriesgado

Her initial fund was just P200,000 when the construction for their house started. It was late in 2020 when she shared that she worked harder than ever and hustled as much as possible with side projects and overtime.

Wendee was also lucky and wise to find a supplier of construction materials who agreed to a flexible payment scheme (every 15th of the month).

Her advice is to make good of your word. If you say you’ll pay, you pay. That is a mindset everyone who has debts must have right?

Photo from Wendee Arriesgado

To everyone who is planning to build their own homes, Wendee reminds you to have a concrete plan, monitor finances, and a thrifty lifestyle.

“You have to really discipline yourself, and you have to make it happen, and you have to focus if you want to have that future, na wala kang babayaran, if you want that house built.”

It pays off to be thrifty and careful in your finances indeed especially if you have a dream, you’d want to come true.
