Cebu logs 8 new cases on April 13

On Wednesday evening, the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) released its official, consolidated data of the COVID-19 cases in the region as of April 13, 2022.

The whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cebu Province — recorded 8 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 14 new recoveries, and 4 new deaths. Cebu’s total active cases declined to 712 (from 719).

Cebu City
– Total confirmed: 53,873 (+4 new)
– Total recoveries: 51,728 (+0 new)
– Total deaths: 1,694 (+1 new)
– Active cases: 451

Lapu-Lapu City
– Total confirmed: 17,055 (+0 new)
– Total recoveries: 16,519 (+3 new)
– Total deaths: 516 (+3 new)
– Active cases: 20

Mandaue City
– Total confirmed: 15,429 (+0 new)
– Total recoveries: 14,914 (+1 new)
– Total deaths: 498 (+0 new)
– Active cases: 17

Cebu Province
– Total confirmed: 46,346 (+4 new)
– Total recoveries: 43,307 (+10 new)
– Total deaths: 2,815 (+0 new)
– Active cases: 224

SUMMARY OF COVID-19 CASES IN CEBU:

  • Total Active Cases in Cebu: 712 (from 719)
  • Total Confirmed Cases in Cebu: 132,703 (+8 new)
  • Total Recoveries in Cebu: 126,468 (+14 new)
  • Total Deaths in Cebu: 5,523 (+4 new)

A total of 1,100 laboratory results were released.

NOTES from DOH-7:

  • *As per DOH-7, the additional deaths in the report are not due to the overnight spike in deaths but due to more accurate data collection and validating efforts. Not all of those deaths occurred today but occurred more than a week ago.
  • Reports maybe subject to change as these claims undergo thorough validation by the local healthcare offices and health personnel.

Don’t worry for we may now have the solution for you as this new mode is being set up for your next ride.

Considering that not everyone likes small talk, Grab Philippines is currently testing out a feature where you have the option to prompt or heads up the driver to keep the ride as conversation-free as possible.

How? Selected users may have already experienced it as they started the beta testing started on Monday, April 4 and is scheduled to last until the end of June. To those who haven’t experienced it, you will receive an auto-generated message right after booking that says:

“For a conversation-free ride, please respond ‘Quiet’ to this message. You may ignore this if you have no preference”

USC, UC among top law schools in 2020-21 Bar Exams

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court announced that 8,241 examinees out of 11,402 who took the 2020/2021 Bar Examination passed with a 72.28 percent passing rate, dubbed the “Biggest Bar Ever.”

There are 761 takers on the exemplary list, which includes individuals who received outstanding grades. In the meantime, 14 people are on the excellent list. This is in lieu of the usual Top 10 as practiced in the past.

The Supreme Court also released the ranking of law schools according to the passing rate. It categorized the schools into four groups based on their number of Bar takers.

  1. Group 1 – Law schools with more than 100 bar takers
  2. Group 2 – Law schools with 51 to 100 bar takers
  3. Group 3 – Law schools with 11 to 50 bar takers
  4. Group 4 – Law schools with 10 or fewer bar takers

The University of Cebu (UC) ranked 2nd under Group 2 with a rate of 97.4026% while the University of San Carlos (USC) ranked 3rd under Group 1 with a whopping 98.00% passing rate.

Group 4: 100% passing rate for first-time takers

‘Libreng Sakay’ under LTFRB program in Cebu resumes

Commuters may expect a break from transportation expenditures as public utility vehicles (PUVs) give free rides along various routes across the country as part of a government subsidy program that started on Monday, April 11.

The public will be able to avail free trips for 45 to 60 days under the LTFRB’s service contracting program, depending on the region.

Meanwhile, the Ceres Buses with FREE RIDES have started plying on Monday with the following routes:

  • SRP to IL Curso to IT Park
  • Cebu City to Alcoy
  • Cebu City to Moalboal
  • Cebu City to Pinamungajan via Toledo
  • Cebu City to Balamban via Toledo
  • Dumaguete City to Mabinay & vice versa
  • Dumaguete City to Bayawan & vice versa
  • Dumaguete City to Jimalalud & vice versa
  • Tagbilaran City to San Jose via Tubigon
  • Tagbilaran City to Talibon via Balilihan
  • Carmen-Tagbilaran City to Mabini
  • Tagbilaran City to Panglao

The government has set out P7 billion for the scheme, which will see 13,000 to 15000 PUVs plying at least 1,000 routes around the country.

However, the local agency stressed that not all of these routes will give free trips tomorrow because certain public transportation operators are still working through the program’s requirements.

PUV operators and drivers will provide free trips to commuters in exchange for a weekly monetary payment from the government under the initiative.

Drivers of public utility buses, UV express vans, conventional and new public utility jeepneys, and selected tourist franchises are included in the program.

It seems like everyone want to move to Canada.

The health benefits and the quality of life there are sure advantageous and the country is very friendly to the Filipino immigrants and employees as well.

Your dreams of working to Canada will sooner be realized than you think because they just announce that they need about a million workers in the next five years.

This is to compensate a serious labor shortage as birth rates have fallen in Canada with people being careful and smart in their family planning. More Canadian youth are also moving to big cities for high-paying jobs in the financial, communication and service. Skilled manpower for other sectors in the economy has decreased in the last decades as well.

Filipinos and Canadian have a well-maintained relationship already with Philippines having entered into bilateral labor agreements with the various provinces of Canada like Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. They have thousands of overseas Filipino workers who have settled there since 2004.

Our workers here will soon get the go sign as several provinces in Canada have been given permission by Ottawa to hire temporary foreign workers until 2024. Us Filipinos though have a unique advantage from others as we have great English-speaking skills and are considered an English-speaking country.

It should be noted though to be wary of direct hiring of some immigration consultancies and bloggers posting hundreds of jobs in Canada.

There are several licensed recruitment agencies for thousands of jobs available in Canada accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).  Keep in mind that under the recruitment of these agencies, a placement fee is not allowed.

Interested jobseekers applying will only spend for his passport once they have been given accredited Canadian job orders. Even medical exams may be shouldered by the potential employer according to recruitment consultant and migration expert Manny Geslani.

Well, it seems like we have another ID to think of renewing as the Philippine government is eyeing to put an expiration date on COVID-19 vaccination cards now.

This action seems to address the problem of Filipinos stopping at just the 2nd dose and not having the booster shots.

In short, it is an action to encourage more people to get their booster shot.

“Well, isa po iyan sa pinag-uusapan namin ngayon, iyong, again, inuulit ko, iyong mga istratehiya on the policy side para iyong tao ay ma-force ‘no na magpabakuna or magpa-boosters,”

He further stated that it is already a possibility that 6 months after your 2nd dose and you still haven’t had your booster shot, said vaccination card is already expired or will automatically expire.

As of April 3 in the government data:

  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-1966,125,962 individuals
  • Received their booster doses- at least 12,154,567 individuals

Densing also said that this number of boosters though are mostly from the National Capital Region and that most people of the South still need convincing. People from places like Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and some provinces.

There is also a worry within the government with 27 million COVID-19 vaccines procured by the national government and the private sector are set to expire in July as stated by Presidential adviser for entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion on Monday, April 4.

We once sough after these vaccines as we had limited supply before but now we have plenty and  we have  to make use of them as much as possible for us to have a chance of beating this pandemic.
