Cebu City Government to build a Quarantine Center in 10 Days

The Cebu City government is eyeing to build a collapsible one-story building to be used as a quarantine and treatment facility. The urgency comes as authorities deal with the pandemic, COVID-19, which originated in Wuhan, China.

A 5,000-square-meter property is being prepared by the Cebu City Government for this matter. The center is being built to house residents of Cebu City who will be diagnosed with COVID-19. It will be placed on Block 27 at the North Reclamation Area.

Chairman of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District, Atty. Jose Daluz III, said that the collapsible center can be completed in 10 days, or on March 27, 2020.

He said the quarantine center will be run by the Cebu City Medical Center and will cater to patients who have mild, moderate, or severe cases.

The City Government will hire health volunteers to assist medical personnel in managing the facility and the patients.

“The structure can be removed. In the future, magamit nato. Kuhaon na nato. Ang permanent ra jud diha is the flooring (In the future, we can use the building. We can get it. The only permanent thing there is the flooring),”

Daluz added.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health Central Visayas Development COVID-19 Center will be set up at the satellite campus of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in General Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City.

According to the memorandum of agreement signed by Dr. Jaime Bernadas, DOH 7 director and Rev. Fr. Manuel Uy, S.J., the DOH shall be in charge in setting up and maintaining the site, including:

  • a quarantine area of 50 beds,
  • triage area for patients,
  • temporary laboratory facility for testing of COVID-19,
  • DOH operation center, equipment, machinery,
  • and related appendices or tools.

We are hoping that with the building of the collapsible quarantine center, together with our prayers and cooperation, COVID-19 will also leave our place as fast as it has arrived.

30,000 COVID-19 test kits arrive in Cebu

Along with the panic of the spread of the novel corona virus was the thought of not having access to its testing kits.

Worry no more, because 30,000 (out of 40,000) test kits arrived in Cebu from South Korea.

There is now a total of 30,100 novel coronavirus test kits for the Visayas, along with the 100 from the DOH main office in Manila. Its distribution will be divided into two, within Cebu City and the rest are for testing PUIs across the Visayas.

These test kits are in the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City (VSMMC) as it is the only COVID-19 proficient molecular testing facility at the sub national level in the Visayas.

Prioritized patients for testing would be people who are manifesting influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI).

The purchase and shipment of the kits was facilitated by the Office of the Presidential Assistant of the Visayas (OPAV) headed by Michael Lloyd Dino, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary.

20,000 test kits was purchased by Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella for VSMMC and another 20,000 test kits purchased by President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bong Go for the utilization of the whole LGUs in the Visayas.

SM employees to receive Compensation and Financial Assistance

As more COVID-19 cases are identified in the Philippines, companies have been working their ways around to ensure the safety of their employees.

Some companies allowed their employees to work from home while others are mandated to file a leave. On the other hand, there are also employees who are still working to ensure the safety of the company they are working for. Not new to the industry is SM.

Apart from donating much to help combat the pandemic by waiving tenant rentals, donating protective equipment, testing kits, and supplies worth P100million, SM never neglects her employees. Thus, assuring employee compensation and providing financial assistance to its frontliners.

SM assured its employees their regular compensation while its frontliners, the janitorial staff and security guards will be receiving an Emergency Financial Assistance during the Enhanced Community Quarantine.

The assistance states:

  • All employees will receive their regularly scheduled salaries during the ECQ period without deductions made against their vacation and sick leaves;
  • The company’s front liners, who comprise the skeletal workforce, will, in addition, be provided with premium pay;
  • All Security Guards and Janitorial staff will receive financial assistance of PHP5,000 for the period.
  • It is focused on helping these key resources so that they in turn can be of service to others.

Furthermore, SM has also been providing its frontliners with protective gear, meals, and transportation since the start of ECQ.

“In these trying times, we are in unchartered territories. Let’s be one with each other, united in the spirit of service. Let’s be mindful of our front liners and help with their need to be alert so they can continue to do their best in working for the safety and health of our communities,”

said Hans T. Sy on behalf of the Sy family.

Let us all stand in solidarity with the whole nation and citizenry and combat against COVID-19.

Things You Should Remember When Attending a Holy Mass Online

1

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, religious sectors were prompted to look for alternative means of worship to avoid public contact.

For the Catholic Church, live streaming of Eucharistic masses were implemented for everyone to celebrate and worship the Divine Liturgy.

Therefore, to make our participation in online Masses more meaningful, Fr. Drans Nolasco, SDB, prepared these recommendations for us to follow:

1. Prepare an Altar

To set the tone, prepare an altar with a candle that is lit. Make sure that you are of proper disposition before beginning. Always be reminded to take three mindful deep breaths and focus.

2. Dress Appropriately

Though you’re only attending your mass at home, make sure you dress up properly. Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you can wear your PJ’s. Be in your best Sunday’s dress.

3. Remove Distractions

This includes turning your mobile phones off, or in silent mode. It could also be putting all your gadgets aside.

4. Pray the Act of Spiritual Communion

Because there is an absence of the physical communion, you are advised to pray the Act of Spiritual Communion by heart. Make sure your heart understands it more than your mind.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus,

I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament

I love You above all things

And I long for You in my soul

Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally,

Come at least spiritually into my heart

As though You have already come

I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You,

Never permit me to be separated from You, Amen.

5. Pray the Oratio Imperata

If the Oratio Imperata is not part of the mass, you are encouraged to pray it after the holy mass. Pray for everyone’s safety.

6. Reflect

Reflect on how God is teaching us to love. With the global crisis we are facing today, may we all be reminded of how we have fallen short and reflect on our own actions.

Most of the time, we only realize the value of something only when we are deprived of it. With the suspension of the Holy Mass, may this also help us cultivate the yearning to actually receive Jesus in physical communion, soon. This, we could only pray for now.

SM City Cebu, Vikings give out FREE packed food to the mall’s frontliners

Amidst all the negative things brought about by the pandemic COVID-19, we are still seeing a silver-lining because it has brought and is bringing out the best in people.

We have read articles about the billionaires, conglomerates, celebrities, even small companies sharing their part of the bargain by donating protective gears, water, food, and medicine. One buffet restaurant is no stranger to helping because Vikings is also joining the positive bandwagon.

Vikings, known for being one of the best buffet restaurants, is also giving away free food to the malls’ front-liners. As their way of gratitude, they are distributing food packs to SM City Cebu’s security guards and sanitation personnel.

Thank you to all the frontliners who have been spearheading our combat against this pandemic and thank you, Vikings for helping them.

May we also be inspired to help in our own little ways.

SMC President Ramon Ang said.

“This is safe, sufficient, and nutritious food for the hardest-hit families facing hunger as a result of the COVID-19 crisis,”

Ang said describing the 250-calorie Nutribun.
