Mayor Vico Sotto gets FREE chicken forever from this restaurant

Apparently, there is now a new internet boyfriend in the Philippines and this is no other than the viral Pasig City Mayor, Vico Sotto.

The young mayor has been making headlines on his remarkable projects and implementations amid the COVID-19 spread.

With the Enhanced Community Quarantine being imposed in Metro Manila, his city-wide programs quick response to the needs of his people did not go unnoticed like:

  • Launching a bus shuttle for front-liners
  • Providing 400,000 food packs
  • Converting a hotel into a quarantine facility

Projected as a modern-day hero for some, Sotto’s actions have made a local restaurant that serves delicious fried chicken, Bad Bird took to Instagram to show their respect and support.

“This man has shown us decisive, grounded, and empathetic leadership defined by principles, not politics. And he has done this without a cheesy billboard on EDSA.

A crisis squeezes out the true nature of a person’s humanity—and right now, we like what we’re seeing in these tough times. ”

– Bad Bird

“Mayor Vico Sotto of Pasig City, we hereby bestow upon you a lifetime supply of food from Bad Bird.  Just walk into any of our restaurants and eat and you will be treated like royalty. ”

Public service has never been about age but heart. This also goes with us. Let us all do our part in helping the world survive this pandemic.

PAGASA declares “no summer in the Philippines”

The arrival of March marks the point of summer.

With the pandemic COVID-19 and the title, you’re very fortunate if you haven’t planned anything for your next summer getaway. If you do, it’s time to re-think and re-align your priorities. It’s now or never.

Having been born and raised in the Philippines, you are already aware that we only have two seasons: wet and dry. The wet season starts in June and ends in November. On the other hand, the dry season is from December to May.

pagasa no summer season 2

However, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), “there is no ‘summer’ in the Philippines.” Technically speaking, we are to experience a “hot dry season.”

Sure, ‘summer’ sounds cool, but we’re not having it. So, it’s more appropriate to say “dry season.” Technically speaking, this same thing goes with saying ‘typhoons’ because we’re not having ‘cyclones’ or ‘hurricanes.’

Regardless of all the technicalities, I guess the ambiguous statement is very much appropriate to our crisis today because, we’re definitely not having summer – we are staying indoors. #TravelCanWait

82 new confirmed cases on March 23, the Philippines’ largest single-day increase in CoViD-19

The Philippines has just reached its largest single-day increase in CoVID-19 cases reported Monday, March 23, 2020.

The Department of Health recently announced 82 new positive cases of the novel coronavirus. With this, we now have a total of 462 cases within the Philippines.

This sudden rise in the confirmed COVID-19 cases is mostly due to the following factors:

  • More tests being conducted after the Philippines received thousands of test kits from various donors
  • Approved test kits through the Food and Drug administration have been increased from four to eight over the past week.
  • DOH also approved four testing laboratories, moving from the initially centralized testing at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine

The Philippines has taken great lengths to contain the spread of the virus like Luzon being placed under “Enhanced Community Quarantine”, Cebu in a community quarantine, along with other cities, provinces and islands of the country.

Employees were encouraged to work from home, social distancing was practiced, and social gatherings were also prohibited — despite all these precautionary measures, the real number of infections in the Philippines is still not known.

With this, there is now a call to conduct mass testing to determine the extent and rate of infections in the country.

Cebu local store donates 2,000+ face masks to Cebuanos

COVID-19 mask shortages leave people with makeshift solutions.

One concrete example is RHIPSTOP, a passion project inspired by the Cebuano culture. Aptly inspired by our culture, Rhipstop has decided to give back to the community.

With the lack of proper masks to aid the Cebuanos in fighting the virus, Rhipstop has been sewing more than 2000 face masks to not put Cebuanos’ lives at risk.

Rhipstop has been going around the metro giving energy drinks, ethyl alcohol, and cotton masks to the Cebuanos who couldn’t work from home, especially our frontliners.

It’s elating to know that these local businesses have also contributed to help flatten the curve. You too can help. Today, right now. You can do something to help others. People of all ages and walks of life are diving in to make a difference.

Stay indoors to help lessen the spread of the virus. Unless necessary, stay with your family in your humble abode. Keep yourselves safe from this pandemic. Save the world.

Housing these 145 evacuees (as of March 21), is an effective way to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and a great way to cement our faith in humanity.

We are all in this together no matter the class, the house and the race.

How to do self-quarantine for 14 days the right way

“Self-Quarantine” is a way to separate yourself from others especially if there is a possibility of you being exposed to the novel coronavirus or you are showing COVID-19 symptoms.

This quarantine will last for the term of the virus’s incubation period of 14 days where you will be observed and monitored.

We already have the hotlines and emergency lines for our inquiries on such cases and we have established that self-quarantine is the best way to deal with this pandemic.

self quarantine cebu

So, if you are showing symptoms, had travel history or had a possible contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, we have here a list on how to properly do a self-quarantine.

  1. Keep to yourself. Stay away from all the people in your home. (have a separate room and bathroom if possible)
  2. Proper hygiene: Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough/sneeze and dispose it immediately; wash your hands with soap and water while singing to a tune or for at least 20 seconds; or if not, you can sanitize with a 70% alcohol.
  3. If you have questions regarding your medical needs and attention, call the hotlines and inquiry lines in Cebu to ensure that you are doing the right and safe actions.
  4. Wear a face mask around other people. (ex. Interaction at home, Trip to the hospital)
  5. Do not share drinking cups, eating utensils, towels or even bedding. Wash them with soap thoroughly after using.
  6. Don’t invite guests into your home unless absolutely necessary.
  7. Clean and sanitize all the house surfaces daily using a household cleaner, diluted Zonrox or Lysol. (ex. counters, chairs, tables, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards)
  8. More importantly, clean and sanitize any surface that can possibly be contaminated with blood, stool or any bodily fluids.
  9. Have a proper ventilation. Your home should have good airflow. (ex. Open windows)
  10. Be aware and monitor your symptoms. Immediately call a health care provider if it gets worse like starting to have difficulty in breathing.
