“Home Quarantine Store” encourages children to do the chores at home

0

When summer – dry season rather – was around the corner, everyone wasn’t expecting COVID-19 to drastically alter their vacation plans.

With a lot of us being indoors to self-quarantine and the discontinuing of the social activities, most people are looking at a lonelier and more boring weeks ahead until COVID-19 has passed.

Though we have given you tips on how to be productive while indoors, a mom has taken it up a notch and built her own “Home Quarantine Store”.

Home Quarantine Store Chores (1)

Like Hyacinth Clor de Arta, if you have kids at home, you can also teach your kids the value of hard work while being at home. You can make them productive amid the lockdown, and you, as a parent, could be efficient in instilling self-discipline on your kids.

“MAMA’S HOME QUARANTINE STORE” is open for Hyacinth’s kids. For every good deed, they get a ‘play money’ which they could use to buy for what they would like.

You could also use the same trick to teach your kids at home. If you have no one to play this with, then check out our other article so you could be productive amid being home-quarantined.

Real-Life ‘Darna’: Angel Locsin provides aid to COVID-19 frontliners

Darna strikes again!

Angel Locsin, who has been hailed as one of the Heroes of Philanthropy last year, seems to be living by the fulfillment of not receiving, but giving. For years, the actress has been very committed in doing charity works and choosing to donate financial resources to those in need.

Locsin may be a superstar in the entertainment industry, but she is just as big of a star when it comes to philanthropic endeavors, even right now, when we are in a crucial fight with COVID-19.

This health crisis led the celebrity philanthropist and her fiancé, Neil Arce, to work together to support our medical workers and frontliners who tirelessly commit their time, effort, and skills in fighting this pandemic.

“Hi everyone! @labellefete, @neil_arce and I, understand that life is hard right now, so we’ll refrain from asking you for financial donations. Instead, we would like to ask you for stuff that you already have.”

Operation Day 2 with my rock❤️ #HealTheWorld

A post shared by Angel Locsin (@therealangellocsin) on

The actress and her team, together with the local government unit, aims to build sleeping tents for medical workers and frontliners so that they wouldn’t think of commuting after their shifts. This way, it would be easier for them to take some rest and gain energy after working untiringly.

Aside from these sleeping quarters, the Philippine Coast Guard thanked Locsin for giving out food and water while they were on patrol. In a Twitter post by the official PCG account says:

“Nagpapasalamat ang PCG Task Force Laban COVID-19 sa aktres na si Angel Locsin sa ibinahagi niyang pagkain habang sila ay nagpapatrolya  sa Lakeshore, Taguig City …”

Locsin, in her post, also special thanked her friends from the industry, who, without a doubt, donated their taping beds to support our frontliners. She mentioned Anne Curtis-Heusaff, Bea Alonzo, Angelica Panganiban, Paulo Avelino, and many more.

If you wish to help and support her in giving temporary quarters or donate food and water to health workers you may contact the number she posted: 0917-899-6435.

Second Dog in Hong Kong tests positive for CoVID-19

0

The Hong Kong government just recently confirmed the second case of a pet dog being tested positive for coronavirus.

The HK Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department (AFCD) stated that the German shepherd from Pok Fu Lam area is positive after being repeatedly tested for COVID-19.

The dog was sent to quarantine, along with another mixed-breed dog from the same residence, after their owners were tested positive of the virus.

First case was the 17-year-old Pomeranian that was tested as “weak positive”. The dog passed away two days after its quarantine period. Experts speculate that the stress from being quarantined and the anxiety from being separated from its owner caused its passing.

The American Veterinary Medical Association stated that several international and domestic human and animal health organizations and infectious diseases experts all agree that there is no evidence that pets can cause the virus; spread it to other animal, including people; nor they can get sick from it, so it is irrational to jeopardize the lives of pets.

However, as precautionary measures, people are encouraged to continue basic hygiene practices around their pets, which include washing hands before and after interacting with pets as well as when handling their food and supplies.

“Our pets can be a source of comfort for us, and not another source of concern, during this evolving COVID-19 environment.”

– Dr. Jim Blacka,  veterinarian

In the meantime, the public—especially households with people tested positive for COVID-19 or anyone who has had close contact with others infected with the virus—is strongly advised to have their mammalian pet animals, including cats and dogs be quarantined in their government facilities for close monitoring and repeated testing.

1 Billion People in Lockdown Worldwide due to CoVID-19

“We are one.”

As accurate and as important that sentence is, there is now a staggering 1 Billion People under lockdown because of the novel corona virus that was first reported in Wuhan, China last December 2019.

The pandemic has long reached the global scale and has a total death toll of approximately 15,400 as of March 23, 2020.

With these statistics, there are now 35 countries that have implemented restriction of movement locally or under Community Quarantine. Including our country the Philippines, there is also Belgium, UK, and Germany.

But there are also countries that have now imposed a Lockdown, due to the major outbreak in the country. These are countries such as China, Denmark, El Salvador, France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, and Spain.

The CoVID-19 like any virus targets that of weak immune system, the elderly and the little ones. Sadly some young people take advantage of this fact and have ignored the repercussions of their actions.

“Today I have a message for young people: you are not invincible. This virus could put you in hospital for weeks – or even kill you,”

– WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

“Even if you don’t get sick, the choices you make about where you go could be the difference between life and death for someone else.”

Ghebreyesus added

Imagine the effect of one billion people in the world stuck indoors, yes, there is a drastic disturbance for the businesses, schools, our lives and the nations activities but environmentally speaking, it is actually good for the Earth.

It’s a breather for our planet. My 1 Billion people, stay indoors and save the earth.

Mayor Vico Sotto gets FREE chicken forever from this restaurant

Apparently, there is now a new internet boyfriend in the Philippines and this is no other than the viral Pasig City Mayor, Vico Sotto.

The young mayor has been making headlines on his remarkable projects and implementations amid the COVID-19 spread.

With the Enhanced Community Quarantine being imposed in Metro Manila, his city-wide programs quick response to the needs of his people did not go unnoticed like:

  • Launching a bus shuttle for front-liners
  • Providing 400,000 food packs
  • Converting a hotel into a quarantine facility

Projected as a modern-day hero for some, Sotto’s actions have made a local restaurant that serves delicious fried chicken, Bad Bird took to Instagram to show their respect and support.

“This man has shown us decisive, grounded, and empathetic leadership defined by principles, not politics. And he has done this without a cheesy billboard on EDSA.

A crisis squeezes out the true nature of a person’s humanity—and right now, we like what we’re seeing in these tough times. ”

– Bad Bird

“Mayor Vico Sotto of Pasig City, we hereby bestow upon you a lifetime supply of food from Bad Bird.  Just walk into any of our restaurants and eat and you will be treated like royalty. ”

Public service has never been about age but heart. This also goes with us. Let us all do our part in helping the world survive this pandemic.

PAGASA declares “no summer in the Philippines”

The arrival of March marks the point of summer.

With the pandemic COVID-19 and the title, you’re very fortunate if you haven’t planned anything for your next summer getaway. If you do, it’s time to re-think and re-align your priorities. It’s now or never.

Having been born and raised in the Philippines, you are already aware that we only have two seasons: wet and dry. The wet season starts in June and ends in November. On the other hand, the dry season is from December to May.

pagasa no summer season 2

However, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), “there is no ‘summer’ in the Philippines.” Technically speaking, we are to experience a “hot dry season.”

Sure, ‘summer’ sounds cool, but we’re not having it. So, it’s more appropriate to say “dry season.” Technically speaking, this same thing goes with saying ‘typhoons’ because we’re not having ‘cyclones’ or ‘hurricanes.’

Regardless of all the technicalities, I guess the ambiguous statement is very much appropriate to our crisis today because, we’re definitely not having summer – we are staying indoors. #TravelCanWait
