If the sheer complexity of Mandarin is scaring you away from learning it yourself, maybe you can check if your kids are into it.
As SKY Select adds the “Miao Mi” channel to it’s line-up, now may be a good time to find out the advantages if your kids have the ability to speak it.
1. It exposes their minds to a very rich culture.
Knowing the language will help equip your kids to experience the richness of Chinese culture. Stories, wondrous traditions, and heroic characters abound that kids can actually enjoy and even learn from.
2. Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world.
Because Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world, there will be chances for your kids to encounter native speakers. Basic knowledge of the language will make it easier for them to interact.
3. A new language adds to your kid’s skills.
Speaking a new language can be an advantage for your children and it will make them unique to other people as they are exposed to another culture. Former British Prime Minister David Cameron said that by the time that the children born today leave school, China is set to be the world’s largest economy. That is why learning the basics of Chinese can be a huge factor for your children’s future.
4. Learning the Mandarin language can be fun and easy.
By watching Miao Mi, learning the Mandarin language will never be boring as it is packed with songs and dances your kids can enjoy. Also, the Mandarin language is made up of characters that fit together to create a meaningful word. Almost all their words also came from pictures that tell different stories that is why kids can be more interested in learning it.
Miao Mi on SKY Select
Choose to add Miao Mi to your current plan for only P20/mo. via SKY Select. It is also available on Select Kids Pack 1 and 2. Miao Mi is accessible via Channel 118 in Mega Manila and Channel 108 in Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, and Iloilo.

Sun Life Financial Philippines names its newest brand ambassador – actor-athlete Enchong Dee – to help promote the company’s health and wellness advocacy.
An accomplished swimmer and a former member of the Philippine National Team, Enchong Dee will help Sun Life engage Filipinos online by sharing tips on how to live a healthier life and documenting his own journey towards his fitness goals.
The announcement was made in the midst of the Ironman 70.3 race in Cebu, where Enchong is competing as part of the Sun Life Tri Team for the second year in a row.
Enchong, together with singer-actor Iñigo Pascual, led a special swim class for kids organized by Sun Life and Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa.
“I’m very honored to be a part of the Sun Life family,” Enchong said. “It’s great that I will be promoting something that’s very close to my heart, which is health and wellness. I look forward to doing my share to help Sun Life lead more Filipinos to a healthier, brighter life.”
Enchong joins Sun Life’s star-studded accolade of brand ambassadors, including Piolo Pascual, Judy Santos, Matteo Guidicelli, Iñigo Pascual, and Charo Santos-Concio. He will also help promote “GoWell”, Sun Life’s health and wellness community, take part in the company’s diabetes awareness campaign, and will participate in events such as the upcoming Sun Life Aquathlon.
The Sun Life Financial Philippines Triathlon Team will be marking its 5th year by participating in Ironman 70.3 in Cebu on August 5 by fielding a total of 13 racers in the prestigious competition, led by brand ambassador Piolo Pascual, actor Enchong Dee, and its very own executives.
Piolo, who will bike for one of the relay teams, will once again team up with Enchong (swim) and his longtime friend, athlete Toniel Ty (run).
Sun Life Chief Investments Officer Michael Enriquez will also see action on the bike, alongside Sun Life Business Development Manager for Partnership Distribution Toots Malapad and Sun Life Sales Training & Development Head Ged Custodia.
“It’s a thrill for us to once again be a part of Ironman 70.3, which is a perfect venue for us to highlight Sun Life’s health and wellness thrust,” Sun Life CEO & Country Head Benedict Sison said.
Sun Life, which has expanded its purpose beyond helping clients achieve lifetime financial security, aims to encourage Filipinos to live healthier lives as well. In fact, the company has been beefing up its suite of health and accident insurance products and has been launching programs that promote the cause.
“By having our own brand ambassador and executives leading the Sun Life Tri Team in Ironman, we’re confident that we’re sending a clear message that we’re committed to this purpose,” Sison said. “We hope that by following the journey of our athletes in this race, more Filipinos will be inspired to lead healthier lives.”

One of the best benefits when living in Cebu is the proximity and easy access from one unique destination to another. Only requiring a few hour drive or land trip and a little more patience with Metro Cebu’s traffic, you will gain access to Cebu’s undeniably beautiful attractions from the white beaches and lush green scenery in mountainous areas to the hundreds of amazing hotels and resorts surrounding the island and many more. No wonder Cebu is the perfect place for any road trips.
Planning a road trip can be pretty much overwhelming, especially if it’s your first-time, but is surely worth it whether you’re traveling in the northern or southern part of Cebu. Here are a few tips on how to make your first road trip fun and worry-free.
1. Pick your trip.
Don’t think about it too much. Just know what to do, where to go, and how to get there.
Know your destination, at least the route/s.
Sure, spontaneous is fun, but be realistic about the distance and possible road conditions.
If you’re heading to the western part of Cebu (Busay-Balamban, Toledo), these are uphills and some roads are steep. Hence, you need to make sure your car is comfortably able to take higher grounds, or at least the car is not overloading.
Install Waze or Google Maps on your phone. Know in advance about the apps’ offline mode in case of loss of signal.
Check the weather.
Weather is another factor to plan for. If you are driving into the mountains where roads are slippery, remember to plan for the weather along the drive accordingly.
Suggested Routes:
1. West: Busay – Balamban
2. North: Carmen – Bogo – Medellin – Daanbantayan
3. South: Alcoy – Badian – Oslob
2. Budget your trip.
– How many people are joining you?
– How long is the drive? Or how much time have you allocated?
– Do you plan to stay in a resort or traveler’s inn for a night?
Your answers will help you figure out how much to spend on the meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks in between – including some ice cream and desserts during side trips) and budget the whole trip well.
3. Bring an emergency kit, food and some “extras”.
You can never be too prepared especially when journeying to unfamiliar places. Bring a portable inflator in case you get a flat tire.
Also bring some extras including, but not limited to: power banks, warm clothes and blankets, extra underwear, food and water, a flashlight, lighters, and anything else that could help save your life should you be stranded in cold weather on the side of the road.
It is not about being paranoid, but it is about being smart, safe and prepared.
4. The Trip should start the day before.
Ensure that you and your car are in tip-top condition. You and your car are the most important part in making your road trip fun and safe.
Rest is important. Get enough sleep the night before the long drive. Wear comfortable clothes (and even shoes), maintain a good posture while driving, and take frequent stops to rest and stretch.
More importantly, give yourself and your passengers peace of mind by having your car checked before the trip. Remember to inspect your car’s brakes, lights, water, battery, air, gas, engine, and oil to give you the best performance on the road.
Stick by the rules. Once on the road, basic driving rules should always be kept in mind. Follow all traffic rules and regulations, such as traffic lights and speed limits. Remember to always wear a seatbelt while on the road.

And when you’re totally feeling like striking an OOTD pose, the cool wind blowing from the sea would help you achieve that blowing hair effect *winks*.
Lighting in this area is also perfect especially during the “Golden Hour”, hence, making your photo naturally beautiful.
7. SRP’s Sugbo Grounds
Plain walls work as a good backdrop for an outfit photo op, but stone walls work much better in a photo especially when you’re wearing a more colored outfit. So, thank God for Sugbo Grounds! The area is located just near the SRP Baywalk.
