0

The holidays is fast approaching and I am sure that you’ve already planned a getaway with your family and friends. You could either be planning a trip to Bantayan, Oslob, or in Mactan.

However, more than the aforementioned, we have something for you, an underrated destination – Tuburan in northwestern Cebu.

Tuburan is considered to be the largest municipality in the northern part of Cebu. That alone speaks a lot about the place, but keep your eyes locked as we unveil to you the must-visit spots in Tuburan, Cebu.

1. MALOBOLO COLD SPRING

One of the frequently visited springs in Tuburan because of its scenic and picture-perfect area.

Located more or less 3.5 hrs from Cebu City in northwestern Cebu, Tuburan, Malobolo Cold Spring has 2 tiers of pool-size spring — the first one is 7-ft deep and the other one is 3-ft deep.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Just ask the terminal personnel which bus goes to Tuburan, which is around three hours away from the Queen City of the South. Visitors with their own vehicles also have a number of routes to take when going to Tuburan. They can take the trans-central highway through Balamban or through the northern towns via Tabuelan. Another route would be through the towns in the south going through Toledo.

2. BLUE HOLE SPRING

If to be surrounded by gigantic trees while dipping is what you’re looking forward to, you need not to look further. This hole in a blue spring is only waiting for your presence. With its peaceful ambiance, you will get to experience nature at its best that will leave you in awe.

HOW TO GET THERE?

– If you are renting a private van or using your own vehicle, take this route. You can then navigate using Waze or Google Maps, just search for “san juan elementary school, barangay ii tuburan”. From there, ask around where you can find the spring.

– Take a V-hire from the Ayala terminal going to Tuburan, then drop off at Tuburan town proper. Fare is ₱140/head (one-way). From there, ride a habal-habal going to Blue Hole spring.

2. Via Toledo

This is only ideal if you come from Minglanilla/Naga/Toledo. Drop off at Tuburan town proper. From there, ride a habal-habal going to Blue Hole spring.

3. MARMOL CLIFF

Ever wonder why it’s called such? According to our research, it is called marmol (“marble”) because the stones are as shiny and as smooth like those of the marble stones. These stones are said to sparkle when the sun-rays hit the stones.

Marmol Cliff (Marble Cliff) is made up of two big rock formations that line the passageway of a river. It is shallow during sunny days, but when it rain, the water rises up to 20 feet, so you must be careful upon treading.

HOW TO GET THERE?

The journey to the Marmol Cliff starts at the Cebu North Bus Terminal. Just hop on a bus going to the town of Tuburan. Travel time to the town is around three hours depending on the traffic. After reaching the town, you can get a ride on a motorcycle for hire to take you to the place. If you are bringing your own vehicle, it is advisable to leave it in the town since it will be necessary to go through the river to get to the cliff. It is better to hire a motorcycle in going to the cliff since the drivers know how to go through the river using its shallow parts.

4. LITTLE BAGUIO BEACH

Unlike the famous beaches in Cebu, Little Baguio Beach doesn’t have as white as snow sand, but is just as interesting because it is just as clean as the white sand beaches.

The shores are very clean and you wouldn’t believe that the brown sand is also fine. If you’re someone who loves the beach, but loves the calm and quiet, the Little Baguio Beach is a must-visit because most of the time, it is free from the crowd.

  • Entrance fee: None

The view is impressive. You can see in the horizon the golden sun setting and it is the perfect amount of perfection in this tiny corner of Tuburan. You can even set up a small picnic where your family can freely play Frisbee, volleyball, or as simple as bathing under the heat of the sun.

HOW TO GET THERE?

The Little Baguio Beach is found on the shores of Brgy. 1 Poblacion, Tuburan. From the town, grab a habal-habal to take you to the brown beach.

5. VIDAR BEACH RESORT

Unlike the aforementioned, this beach resort is popular because the sand is perfectly white and is as fine as sugar.

Apart from boasting their white san shoreline, there are also a few activities that you can do here. Swimming, strolling, and even have your team building activities and picnics with your family. They also offer kayaking and snorkeling.

To someone who grew listening to Cebuano music, I am without a doubt a huge fan of what Cebuanos could offer not only in the nation, but in the global arena of talents.

Hence, when the Guang Ming Institute of Performing Arts (GMI), with the support of Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Foundation opened the Grand Siddhartha Theater on June 26 of this year, I was like floating in cloud 9 because at last! Cebuano talent is now given tribute.

To add icing to the cake, Siddhartha Theatre is a grand theatre for the arts. It has a seating capacity of 200 pax with state-of-the-art equipment to be used for film fests, plays, seminars, conventions, and musical presentations.

In the theater building are:

  • Storage rooms (for costumes and props)
  • Dormitory (capable of housing 80 persons, designed for performers from out of town)

IN PHOTOS: CCLEX now almost halfway through for 2021 completion target

The construction of the 8.5-kilometer Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is now at 47.32 percent, almost halfway through for its 2021 completion target date.

The P30-billion project which will beef up Cebu’s road network to provide motorists safe and comfortable travel experience, is also expected to help spur economic growth and boost investments not just in Cebu City and Cordova Municipality, but also in the entire Cebu Province and Visayas region.

Among the iconic features of CCLEX, which is envisioned to be among the landmarks in Cebu when finished in 2021, is a lighted cross on all four sides on top of the two 145-meter tall main pylons.

CCLEX will have two lanes in each direction and covers the on and off ramps connection along the CSCR, the main navigation span twin pylon cable-stayed bridge, viaduct approach bridges in Cebu City and Cordova sides, causeway, toll plaza and an at-grade road connecting to the Mactan Circumferential Road.

The span and height of the bridge, which is at 51 meters, will allow large vessels to pass underneath and the link is expected to serve at least 50,000 vehicles daily.

Project Brief:

  • Cable-stayed main span: 390 m
  • Total Length: 8.5 km
  • Number of lanes: 2 x 2 (total of 4 lanes)
  • Height of bridge: 51m (nav. clearance); 145m (tower height)
  • Concession Period: 35 years
  • Design Speed: 60 kph (at Approcahes) 80kph (at Main Bridge and Causeway)

Project Status:

  • Commencement Date: January 8, 2018
  • Construction period: 1,308 days from commencement
  • Days elapsed (as of Dec. 6, 2019): 705 days (53.90%)
  • Days remaining: 603 days (46.10%)
  • Accomplishment to-date: 47.32%

The new bridge will give Cordova direct access to Cebu City and is envisioned to decongest the traffic in the two existing bridges and provide faster link between Mactan island and mainland Cebu. The facility has a design speed of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour (kph).

UPDATES

The photo below shows ongoing construction of the almost 200-meter pedestrian footbridge beside the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR). The footbridge will start near the U-turn slot of the South Road Properties’ welcome tower and will connect to the on ramp sidewalk of the CCLEX. Sidewalks will be provided in the entire stretch of the 8.5-kilometer toll facility.

Just before the year ends, CCLEX finished all the piling works in the entire stretch of our 8.5-kilometer Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) project through sub-contractor Trevi Foundations Philippines Inc. They have driven 494 piles. Trevi, a worldwide leader in the field of soil engineering, is responsible for the installation of deep foundations in the different segments of CCLEX.

As of July 2020

CCLEX: “Our team is currently concreting the portal frame at the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) connection. It is the white structure that is encircled in the engineering render that comes with this post. The concreting of the frame is the reason why we needed to close the area to traffic. We will reopen it tonight (July 19) after we are done with this needed construction work.”
