OVP raised P36.2 million for Personal Protective Equipment for CoVID-19 frontliners

0

As the number of confirmed cases in our country continues to rise, our government is constantly looking for ways and build programs targeted to provide help to our medical workers, frontliners, infected citizens, and sectors greatly affected by this pandemic. Two of the highest elected officials even made announcements on their actionable plans regarding this health issue – one is from the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

On March 17, 2020, the OVP, together with its partnering organizations announced that they were raising funds to provide personal protective equipments (PPEs) to more than 3,000 frontliners as they dangerously fight the novel coronavirus pandemic.

OVP Leni Robredo Fundraising COVID-19

Exactly a week after, March 24, 2020 – Vice President Leni Robredo disclosed on a Facebook post that they already collected P17.3 million which they immediately used to purchase equipment for health workers and infected people.

“The said amount, as of Monday evening, can provide for more than 52,000 PPE sets and other forms of assistance for 3,484 frontliners,”

the Office of the Vice President said.

Aside from the protective gear, transport services were also being offered to our health workers who were affected by the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

As of today, the OVP has raised P36.2 million.

“Nakakalap na tayo, sa suma total, ng higit P36.2 million. Mula ito sa pinagsamang P5.9 million na iniambag ng Office of the Vice President at and hight P30.2 million na nakalap mula sa donation drive na sinimulan ng ating Angat Buhay partner, and Kaya Natin!”

, Robredo said.

“Maraming, maraming salamat sa mga nagdonate. Totoo nga po: We responded to the worst of times with the best in ourselves,.”

So far, they have distributed 30,450 PPE sets to different hospitals.

The Philippines now has 1,075 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 68 of which have died, and 35 at least have recovered.

Cebuano develops mobile app to help trace locations of CoVID-19 PUMs or PUIs

It seems like our mobile phone obsession will finally be of help to the society.

“WeTrace” is a mobile app that helps the Department of Health (DOH) trace people who came into contact with persons suspected of carrying the novel coronavirus (CoVID-19).

This mobile application, which was developed by Cebuano IT expert Eddie Ybañez, has made it possible to have location-tracking, patient-mapping, case-reporting, alerts, and messages.

“Maayo ni siya nga app kay makatabang kaayo sa atong goal nga containment kay ma-trace na man dayon ang location sa PUMs (persons under monitoring) or PUIs (patients under investigation),”

– Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia

WeTrace app features:

Geo-coordinates: give users the idea on the suspected persons’ whereabouts and who they came in contact with.

QR Code Generation: used for tracking so there will be no personal information divulged. It will serve as the device ID number that will be the only identification trace of every user.

Bulgari donates thousands of hand gels to Italian authorities amid CoVID-19 crisis

More businesses are joining the global effort in fighting COVID-19.

Another ‘big’ name has shown its support for the combat against the pandemic COVID-19. Bulgari, Roman jeweler, has decided to manufacture hand-gels together with Industrie Cosmetiche Riunite, Lodi (ICR), their fragrances partner.

Apart from the state-of-the-art 3D high definition microscope it donated to Spallanzani Hospital, Bulgari is set to pledge hundred thousand hand gel bottles to all medical facilities through the Italian Civil Protection Department.

“I believe as a major economic actor and symbol of Italy, Bulgari has a responsibility to contribute to the national effort to help prevent, fight, and eradicate COVID-19. Thanks to our fragrances expertise, we have been able to develop together with ICR a ‘hand cleansing gel with sanitizer,’ which will be manufactured in our Lodi Factory already making our high-end perfumes and hotels amenities. Aware of the difficult situation we are experiencing, we believe it is our duty to contribute with our know-how and production facilities and we thank the Italian Civil Protection Department who will take care of the collection and distribution,”

One thing I love about being a Filipino is having the “community spirit”. No matter what issue our country is facing, we always rise above the situation – as one. Right now, we are in a crucial fight with this pandemic caused by COVID-19. The number of confirmed cases keeps on increasing which pushed President Duterte to place the whole country under the State of Calamity, hence, the lockdown.

However, despite the situation, nothing can stop the Filipinos from helping one another especially those who are greatly affected by this pandemic, and who are considered as frontliners in fighting this virus. Several celebrities and companies raised funds for the less privileged, billionaires donated bulk of their wealth to the poor, and the local government units are constantly looking for ways to provide and support our medical workers and frontliners.

If you wish to extend a helping hand but are doubtful because of the community quarantine, don’t worry because you can help by staying at home. Here’s a list of some celebrities/influencers, netizens, companies, and organizations who are raising funds for our health workers, and those who are affected by the quarantine:

1. ABS-CBN’s Pantawid ng Pag-IBIG Program

Raised funds will provide urgent medical necessities as well as food and important goods for all COVID19 frontliners (health workers, military and police checkpoints), and also the PUV drivers; tricycle, jeepney, bus and taxi drivers. The fund will be used to buy all of these urgent necessities to help people in need.
