Being a Science teacher, Diaz wanted to put into a wonderful artwork his learnings. Apart from teaching the said subject to his students, quarantine made him sketch these mesmerizing designs, digitally.

Who would have thought that the branches of Science could be this wonderful? We never did. I mean, not until Neil John Tibayde Diaz, did. He could really be a remarkable designer, apart from being a teacher.

Few weeks ago, I tried to digitally sketch my works and as a beginner, I knew I had a lot of stuff to learn. So to make…

NASA says Skywatching in May is amazing

Want to view bright objects in our solar system and beyond? Read on.

Viewing of our mesmerizing solar system could be done during sunrise and sunset.

According to NASA, every day in May, an hour before sunrise, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Moon should be visible to the South.

As the sun sets, brilliant colors reflected in the clouds take on the red and orange hues of the setting sun, reflecting the colors back to the ground.

This causes the blue light that is seen during the daytime to be scattered away from our eyes, allowing more orange and red light to pass through. This causes the blue light that is seen during the daytime to be scattered away from our eyes, allowing more orange and red light to pass through

While an hour after sunset during May, the planet Venus and some distant stars should be visible too to the West.

“Many of us are staying home these days, and it’s normal to feel kind of cooped up, yearning for wide open spaces and more distant horizons,”

– NASA

“If you find yourself feeling like that, this might be a good time to remember that we’re in space, cruising through the solar system on our pale blue dot, with a vast, three-dimensional universe all around us,”

Even when you are from cities or the urban areas with terrible light pollution, bright planets like Venus and Jupiter, along with the stars Sirius (bluish) and Betelgeuse (reddish), are conspicuous.

“So when you’re looking westward in May’s early evening sky, think about how you’re looking outward through the disk of our galaxy, toward its outer edges, thousands of light years away,”

– NASA

Pfizer begins clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccine in US

Another possible vaccine is set to be ready later this year.

According to Pfizer, a major American pharmaceutical corporation, their coronavirus vaccine should be ready by September or October this year.

On Tuesday, Pfizer Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla said that a coronavirus vaccine for emergency use could be ready by the autumn and for broader roll out by the end of 2020.

They have started testing the vaccine in Germany, on humans, with BioNTech. They have high hopes to also begin testing in America.

The development of vaccines could take months, even years, but the researchers are hurtling towards human trials. Because the virus is not mutating and is similar to those in the past, they are not really having that much of a hard time.

Pfizer has started mass manufacturing while trials are underway. They are even aiming for hundred of millions of doses to be ready for the end of the year.

While the world is still suffering heavily from this pandemic, we could help in our own little ways. By staying at home and practicing proper hygiene, we could help flatten the curve. If not today, in the days or weeks to come.

Researchers are developing a face mask that detects coronavirus

If we’re experiencing scarcity for surgical masks, wait until the mask which can detect virus comes out in the market.

For the past six years, sensors that can detect viruses are being developed by the bioengineers at MIT and Hardvard. These viruses include ebola, and now, coronavirus.

The team has been trying to embed sensors inside the face masks. These sensors will light up when an infected person breathes, coughs, even sneezes with the mask on. Dope, right?

MIT researcher Jim Collins has been thinking of pandemics, even before the emergence of coronavirus.

His bioengineering laboratory at MIT has begun developing sensors to detect Ebola in 2014. The team from MIT and Harvard published their first research in 2016.

With the new coronavirus, they are also adjusting their tools to identify the aforementioned. Should this succeed, it could address flaws from other screening methods.

“As we open up our transit system, you could envision it being used in airports as we go through security, as we wait to get on a plane,”

– Jim Collins told Business Insider

“You or I could use it on the way to and from work. Hospitals could use it for patients as they come in or wait in the waiting room as a pre-screen of who’s infected,”

These masks could help doctors diagnose whether or not the patient they’re attending to is positive, or otherwise, even without sending samples to a laboratory. Saves so much time.

However, this virus-identifying technology has already been proven in 2018. The lab’s sensors could already detect SARS, measles, influenza, hepatitis C, West Nile, and other viruses.

“We initially did this on paper to create inexpensive paper-based diagnostics,” Collins said. “We’ve shown it can work on plastic, quartz, as well as cloth.”

Let’s just hope these masks will turn out to be doing its job, perfectly. That way, we could at the very least see from our eyes, through a light, our enemies.

Cebu Capitol to give free ‘lemonsito’ seedlings to interested Cebuanos

It’s about time we fuel our body with Vitamin C.

Free ‘lemonsito’ or calamansi seedlings will be given by the Cebu Provincial Government to those who are interested from the province of Cebu.

Those who wish to avail of these free seedlings may ask their respective municipal city or city agriculturist for the grafted planting materials.

On May 13, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, in her livestream report, encouraged the lemonsito growers of every barangay to plant more so the government can buy from them.

“This is an economic opportunity for our barangays. Paminaw mo mga kapitan kay tagaan nato’g negosyo inyong mga barangay. Mananum mo, nya kami mopalit. Additional income ni ninyo. Amo nang paliton aron i-apud-apod sa kabalayan,”

– Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia

Apart from the lemoncito, she has also encouraged the people to plant turmeric (a type of ginger).

Both the calamansi and turmeric will give us a “better fighting chance” against the pandemic, COVID-19.

The first set of free lemonsito seedlings were given to the mayors during their meeting on Friday, May 15 in Balamban town where the discussed and insights on general community quarantine protocols and guidelines, restarting the economy with focus on agribusiness.

‘Avatar: The Last Air Bender’ is now available on Netflix

I can still vividly remember how I got so excited upon knowing that Avatar: The Last Airbender is now available on Netflix since last week.

Writing this makes me so eager to type, but I know that I needed to hold my horses and slow down, at least a bit. This anime’s big debut on Netflix is definitely making waves even before it is available.

The series is centered around the journey of 12-year-old Aang, the Avatar and last survivor of his nation, the Air Nomads, along with his friends Sokka, Katara, and later on Toph, as they strive to end the Fire Nation’s war against the other nations of the world. It also follows the story of Zuko—the exiled prince of the Fire Nation seeking to restore his lost honor by capturing Aang, accompanied by his wise uncle Iroh—and later that of his ambitious sister Azula.

If you’re a big fan of anime, or just starting to love anime, you better watch this original. If you’re also too bored during this lockdown, this is definitely a good way to spice up your boring life during quarantine.

So, if you have nothing to do today, tonight, even tomorrow, start streaming Avatar: The Last Air Bender on Netflix. It will definitely entertain you during this time of year.
