Spreading fake news faces up to P1 million fine or 2-month jail time amid CoVID-19

fake news

This is certainly not the right time to joke and spread fake news.

The Philippines’ law enforcement agencies will run after the sources of false information about the novel coronavirus disease (CoVID-19) on social media and if found will be fined with up to P1 million or jail time of two months. This is under the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act” recently signed by President Duterte.

“We appeal to our countrymen not to listen to any false news or untrue information designed not only to mislead but also to create panic and anxiety.”

Salvador Panelo, Presidential Spokesperson

This is also a reminder for all of us to follow Ms. Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach’s advice, “Think before you click”.

The specific “offenses” that would be penalized under the law in the Senate Bill No. 1418 are:

“Individuals or groups creating, perpetuating, or spreading false information regarding the COVID-19 crisis on social media and other platforms.”

“Such information having no valid or beneficial effect on the population, and are clearly geared to promote chaos, panic, anarchy, fear, or confusion; and those participating in cyber incidents that make use or take advantage of the current crisis situation to prey on the public through scams, phishing, fraudulent emails, or other similar acts.”

okada manila donate covid19

We have yet another private institution standing side-by-side with the government in our rally against COVID-19.

Okada Manila, a luxury casino resort and hotel in Manila, pledged P50M through the Okada Foundation.

With the continuous plead of our medical personnel for support, Okada Foundation adhered to the calling of helping our frontliners. Okada Manila will be donating P25M to the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) and another P25M to the Philippine Heart Center (PHC).

With the continuous rising of cases in the nation, we need more philanthropists and companies to help in aiding our medical personnel so they would be able to continue healing our patients.

Okada Foundation said that the donation would be used by the hospitals to purchase needed items in their combat against COVID-19.

“Okada Manila stands united with all medical frontliners whose selfless acts of service help keep the nation safe,”

With the never-ending support of generous individuals, foundations, and companies, may more of the aforementioned be inspired to help the nation.

The Sundown Cebu2

After all the negative news we’ve been hearing, it’s high time we take a break and read something new.

If all that you’ve ever done since the home quarantine period was listen to music, you’ve got something new for your playlist.

The Sundown Cebu

The Sundown, a Cebuano band, aptly named because of their music suited for playing during sunsets, will be releasing a new single “UwU” on March 26 on all streaming platforms. Though the song was previously written during 2018, it is only now that the song has been ready for release.

The song “UwU” is perfect for the home-quarantine period because it’s about reminiscing all the good and bad moments you have spent with someone. This song claims to flash back all the memories down the line so make sure you set your volume at high.

The Sundown members:

  • Aaron Domingo (vocalist)
  • Vincent James Eco (guitarist)
  • Gino Rosales (guitarist)
  • Alden Panes (drummer)
  • Luigi Balazo (bassist)

With all that is happening around us, it could get overwhelming. Let’s all take a step back, collect our thoughts, reminisce, breathe, smile, pray, and listen to good Cebuano music.

Cebu City to launch 15 ‘Mobile Palengke’ units to lessen public market trips

0
cebu city mobile market

The announcement of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in the whole Cebu province and some independent cities in Cebu has sent the people to the doors of every grocery.

Though this is a misconception since the grocery stores will still be open in an ECQ, going out is still a risk.

Well, worry not Cebuanos because 15 mobile markets are coming to you. They will go around Cebu City during the enhanced community quarantine period and serve the Sugboanons.

They have not yet announced the specific areas where these mobile markets will be placed. Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella have suggested though that these mobile markets be placed in mountain areas to limit the movements of the residents living there.

The mobile markets will be selling:

  • fruits
  • vegetables
  • meat
  • others

Labella said that there are plans for more suppliers to have a mobile market too.

“The Filipino spirit is stronger together and we will get through this together.”

Reading about new private institutions pledging whatever they can to battle with the nation is overwhelming, and then we receive news about doing whatever they can to support the government. There are also brands whom we have been loving, are being one with the whole nation. These news lift a bit of our worries away.

Uniqlo, an international brand of clothing, will also be pledging their own for our frontliners. They will be donating P10 million to the SM Foundation to be used for food assistance and personal protective equipment (PPEs) for our modern day heroes.

With more and more people and companies helping our nation with her combat against COVID-19, may all the pledges be allocated to the rightful people and may more corporations and individuals help us rise from this pandemic.

Kathryn Bernardo ‘low-key’ donates to CoVID-19 Medical Frontliners

To someone who has always been on the spotlight, she has finally taken a step back and decided to work behind the scenes.

Celebrating her 24th birthday today, March 26, Kathryn Bernardo, a famous celebrity, has just been exposed to the public to have been ‘low-key’ helping some of our nation’s frontliners.

In a birthday greeting by Juan Miguel Severo, he mentioned how Kathryn has been secretly helping our frontliners: “Ito nakakachat ko naman halos araw-araw, walang sinasabi tapos malalaman ko na lang sa iba na kung ano-ano na palang tulong ang pinapaabot?”

The greeting was accompanied by screenshots of the food donations given by Kathryn.

Contrary to her being in the limelight, this act of kindness shown by Kath only goes to show how genuine her heart is.

Kathryn has been sending food donations to the healthcare workers of:

  • San Lazaro Hospital
  • Rosario Maclan Bautista Hospital
  • Barangay Claro in Quezon City
  • Barangay Manga in Quezon City

Though we respect that some people would prefer to keep their identities private while helping, we couldn’t help but honor them for taking good care of our kababayans. We owe them the help they’ve provided for our frontliners. Let’s continue praying for one another.

Happy Birthday, Queen Kath!
