7 Things You Should Invest in 2021

The year 2021 has somehow become a symbol of hope to everyone. A start over from the mess that is 2020, our chance to be better.

As a fresh start, we all need to be smart on where to invest our time and energy this year. If you are a little lost on where to place your investments, then worry not because we got you covered.

We present to you a list of things where it is smart and quite necessary to invest in this 2020.

1. Invest in your body

We have learned this lesson the hard way during the year 2020 and this investment deserves to be on the top of the list. We only have one body to live for the rest of our lives, so we better take care of it.

Take your vitamin C, multivitamins and specialty supplements every day, exercise regularly, find your sport, keep hydrated and get enough sleep.

It is vital for us to have a strong and healthy immune system to keep us from illnesses and eventually unforeseen expenses.

The strength of our mind reflects that of our body and our life. Reflecting on the past year will help us on what we want moving forward. Read as many self-help books as you can and write down your thoughts, your experiences, your small pans and your long-term goals in a self-care journal.

Ask yourself what do you want to change. Self-reflection and knowing one’s self will help you feel a little less lost in life.

When you do “you” and no one else, you will find that life becomes easier and more to your pace.

We’ve been stuck in our homes for most of the year and it definitely was an eye opener to invest more in our comfort and homes.

As the effects of 2020 will not be gone entirely, it is smart and necessary for us to pay attention to our homes. Invest in quality furniture and home tools that will last for the next 10-20 years. Have our rooms redesigned and of course buy personal belongings that are much more comfortable.

One thing that 2020 has taught us is that we should live life to the fullest. It’s quite unpredictable. With the world in chaos, we look upon ourselves and reflect on what we really want to do, what we want to achieve. Maybe the ones we are currently chasing after isn’t what we want anymore.

May it be simple goals like drinking lots of water, to leaving your day job and starting your own business, to marriage and to building your own house, our pursuit to happiness takes priority today.

Invest in your personal goals and take advantage of these deals of up to 70% OFF from January 2 to 10, 2021 at SM Seaside:

  • ACE Hardware: Up to 10-50% on selected items

6. Invest in long term financial investments

This day and age, we all need to be smart and forward-thinkers. The earlier we start investing, the more we will be able to earn in the long run. Saving won’t be enough anymore, you have to invest your money where growth is possible to reach your financial goals.

Most young professionals don’t have enough knowledge on investments and some are afraid because it carries some risks.

Financial tips and guidance can now be looked up online so you don’t have to worry. Stocks, mutual funds, real estate, agriculture, land, and so on are some of the channels you can invest in to get returns.

7. Invest in emergency funds

Emergency funds are a must. You can never be certain with life. Surely, the pandemic has taught us that. Accidents happen, unforeseen situations and expenses are inevitable; it’s best to always be prepared.

Putting aside 3 to 6 months’ worth of expenses is a good rule of thumb, but sometimes it’s not enough. If you’re able, you might want to think about expanding your emergency savings.

Your emergency fund should be kept safe and untouched unless absolutely necessary.

For a fresh start in 2021, always ensure to invest you time, money and energy in the right places. Take advantage of mall-wide sales so you get the best value for your money for essential items you spend and take advantage of the technology we have today to learn everything you need to succeed in life.

Beat the heat with 80 Pesos at Playa del Sur in Alcoy

1

Get ready to have your skin tanned in Alcoy’s Playa del Sur. This humble destination in the south provides a simple and affordable getaway for the entire family. The resort has a peaceful ambiance that soothes the nerves and relaxes the body.

There are barely any houses nearby so rest assured that despite being an open area, the guest will have the privacy that they need to be able to fully enjoy with everybody. Surrounding the vicinity of the resort are small bodies of water and a lot of tropical trees that all contribute to the nature vibe of the resort.

The main attraction of the resort is their swimming pool which could accommodate a large number of people. The pool is also deep enough that adults would be able to enjoy their swim yet shallow enough for kids to swim safely on their own – the perfect balance of depth that allows everybody to enjoy their time together without leaving anyone out.

Just like the outside of the resort, the inside is dominated with the sight of dwarf palms – a short variety of coconut trees growing up to 16 feet in height.

There are cottages by the side of the pool where everybody can place their things and set up their food for a hearty Cebuano-style feast. After a good swim to beat the heat of the sun, it’s also spacious enough to accommodate everyone needing a break from the tiring water activity.

At the end of the day, the entire group will be leaving the resort feeling content and having a day well-spent.

Palm Beach: 5-Peso Beach Getaway in Minglanilla

2

We always say that distance doesn’t matter but when a beach as close as Palm Beach in Minglanilla makes itself known, then it definitely does.

Palm Beach Hotel and Resort is only one of the many beaches that fringe the hems of Cebu but it is also one of the closest to the city being only 15 kilometers away from the city.

Aside from being easily accessible, Palm Beach Hotel and Resort also has a very affordable entrance fee but it would only be worth it for those who won’t mind the color of the sand and would prioritize the fun experience.

The beachfront has an extensive shore filled with fine cream-colored sands that is spacious enough for activities such as beach volleyball and Frisbee. The shore as well as the waters are cleaned regularly to maintain their pristine look. In some parts of the beach, there are also occasional rock formations that would make great backdrops for a quick photo op.

Aside from the distance, this resort has the basic facilities that any beach resort would have. There are native cottages where day-use guests could immediately settle down upon their arrival to the resort. For overnight guests, there are accommodations that provide security and comfort to every checked-in guest.

The unique thing about the rooms is that they can be rented in different intervals. They can be rented for 6, 12, or 24 hours so guests can gauge how long they will be staying and rent the hours most suitable for them.

Photo taken before the pandemic.

Another advantage of being close to the city is proximity to other important places such as markets, convenience stores, and restaurants. It is very useful for quick getaways where time doesn’t have to be spent too much on preparing because there are stores nearby that can cover some basic necessities.

The proximity of the beach resort also doesn’t mean that it is already less relaxing than other beach resorts in the island. The accommodations and beach area are quite secluded from the main road so guests will still have that peace and calm once they’re inside the resort.

NOTE: With the very affordable entrance fee and room rates, don’t expect too much from this budget resort.

Tumalog Falls: The Serene, Silk-like waterfalls of Oslob

1

Oslob is one of the most naturally gifted municipalities in Cebu. It boasts not only some of the most grand beaches but also majestic waterfalls such as Kawasan and Aguinid Falls.

Another stunningly beautiful waterfall that’s worth the visit is the gentle and serene Tumalog Falls.

Unlike Kawasan and Aguinid Falls, the beauty of Tumalog Falls is quite seasonal but be that as it may, its beauty still holds a candle to the other famous waterfalls in the Philippines.

The safest time to visit Tumalog Falls is during the months of January to June, the dry seasons, but drought and other seasonal factors may also make the falls look quite underwhelming. To experience the beauty of the waterfalls at its fullest, it may be wise to visit between the early weeks of the rainy season to have a sufficient amount of waterfall that is safe and properly showcases the beauty of Tumalog.

What makes Tumalog Falls stand-out from other waterfalls in Oslob is its sheer size. It stands at approximately 80 to 100 meters in height. Moreover, as the water falls from the top, it hits many rock formations that jut out and creates multiple cascades of water that just looks breathtaking.

The curtains of water are so diaphanous that it easily lets light pass through which makes the falls look like silk over the rocks. The image that it gives when looking from below makes it look so serene and almost holy as it bends the light.

Of course the waterfalls aren’t just for display. Like all waterfalls, Tumalog falls create a pool of turquoise waters at the bottom that visitors will find irresistible. It has the perfect depth that’s deep enough to submerge the body but also shallow enough to keep everybody safe. The breathtaking beauty of nature and the splashing sounds made by the waterfall are so hypnotizing and very therapeutic for the mind and the body.

The waterfalls also don’t have many unnatural structures around it except for the road that leads to the falls for the reason that these may destroy the natural beauty of the falls. In this way, visitors are able to witness the untouched and raw beauty of Tumalog Falls.

Before visiting, make sure to check  https://discover.cebu.gov.ph or call the Oslob Tourism Office if the falls are already open to the public. As of December 2020, the waterfall has been closed as a precaution to COVID-19.

Cebu City Medical Center reopens after 7 years

0

Today, December 29, the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) will start accepting patients.

In the evening of December 28, the Cebu City Government led the inauguration of the first three floors of the new CCMC building and the lighting of its new logo. The city officials also announced that starting 8AM of December 29, the hospital’s Out-Patient Department (OPD) will be operational.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said that in order to decongest the patients in the old CCMC, they will be opening the OPD first.

“We will be doing it (the hospital’s operations) gradually. Within a few weeks, hopefully our emergency, other wings and departments (can operate). The important thing is we have started,”

– Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella

Yvonna Cania, CCMC administrator, said the OPD in the new CCMC, located just across the old CCMC could accommodate around 250 to 300 people.

The CCMC construction started in 2015 with 10 storeys after it was demolished in 2014 following the declaration of it being condemned in 2013 when a 7.2-magnitude earthquake drastically affected the islands of Cebu and Bohol.

Project Update: Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX)

4

Cordova, the municipality situated below Lapu-Lapu City, has been one of the beautiful places to visit in Cebu. Along its seas is a rich and diverse marine ecosystem, and now, we are progressing our way to access this island easier through the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).

Cebu has always aimed to be better and aim further, envisioning a brighter future for its people. This bridge is one step to fulfilling such a wish.

The CCLEX that will connect the municipality of Cordova with Cebu City is implemented by the Local Government of Cebu City together with the Municipality of Cordova. It costs approximately 27 Billion pesos. The project began last July 5, 2018 and it is still under construction, but it has made astounding progress as the bored piles for the foundation have been completed.

Project Brief:

  • Cable-stayed main span: 390 m
  • Total Length: 8.5 km
  • Number of lanes: 2 x 2 (total of 4 lanes)
  • Height of bridge: 51m (nav. clearance); 145m (tower height)
  • Concession Period: 35 years
  • Design Speed: 60 kph (at Approcahes) 80kph (at Main Bridge and Causeway)

The new bridge will give Cordova direct access to Cebu City and is envisioned to decongest the traffic in the two existing bridges and provide faster link between Mactan island and mainland Cebu. The facility has a design speed of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour (kph).

The project is right on schedule and is expected to be completed by August 2021. It is said to help boost the economy of the entire Visayas region as well as reduce the traffic between the main bridges connecting Lapu-Lapu and the mainland.

This will surely help bring not just the Cebuanos but the whole Visayas closer. Let us all cheer on this ambitious project.

CCLEX: “Our team is currently concreting the portal frame at the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) connection. It is the white structure that is encircled in the engineering render that comes with this post. The concreting of the frame is the reason why we needed to close the area to traffic. We will reopen it tonight (July 19) after we are done with this needed construction work.”
