Explore Moalboal’s magical waters at Panagsama Beach

0

Mention Moalboal to almost any Cebuano, and they immediately know what’s up. It’s a magical place with amazing sights and scenic beaches, and a lot of locals and tourists frequent the place.

If you haven’t been there, you owe yourself the experience. Moalboal has some of the best waters in Cebu – it has clear waters, white sand beaches (most famously Basdaku White Beach), plus a rich and lively underwater scene! Today we’re taking a look at Panagsama Beach, a popular destination known for its wonderful waters.

Now at first glance, Panagsama Beach may seem like it doesn’t have much to offer. Its shoreline is crusted with rock and corals with shallow sand. At some areas, the water goes up to concrete slopes or platforms built by the beachside establishments. There isn’t much of a shore, but alas, the appeal of Panagsama is underneath its waters!

Upon arriving at the beach, right away you’ll notice the many boats parked in the shallows. These boats are all geared and ready to take visitors and tourists on a tour of the waters. Most of the boats are ready to go right away after you settle a price with the crew, but some of them are also reserved by private contact or booking. It’s best to arrange a boat with your resort or find a suki to save some money on boat trips.

What is there to see in Panagsama?

One of the most talked about experiences in Moalboal is visiting Pescador Island. Only 20 minutes away from the beach, it’s home to a beautiful coral-covered reef top that gives way to a steep cliff into the deep sea. The reef is filled with different colorful small fish and sometimes turtles swim around the reef. Deeper down in Pescador dive sites, there are black corals, sea fans and sponges along with a wide variety of fish including snappers, scorpionfish, frog fish, triggers, stonefish, nudis, moray eels, and even barracuda!

A little closer to the coast this time is the famed sardine run. The sardines feed on plankton in massive schools that “run” every day, at any time of year. Millions of sardines swim in the waters near Panagsama Beach, and you can observe them from any angle – from the surface of the water with a snorkel, or beside the school underwater with diving equipment. The insane number of sardines sometimes changes the color of the water; it truly is a sight to behold!

Get a closer look at the different reefs and the rich marine life down under. Different sites offer different attractions and sea creatures, so consider going through Moalboal’s impressive list of over 19 dive sites!

The coastal town

Panagsama Beach is located in Basdiot along the western coast. Along the beach you’ll find countless restaurants and bars offering shelter and refreshments for swimmers and divers. The establishments are huddled around each other, only separated by the footpath and the roads, giving the whole coastline a quaint towny vibe.

Balidbid Lagoon, known as “Suba” by locals, in Bantayan Island is a serene and scenic spot where the river makes its rendezvous with the sea.

Balidbid Lagoon is comprised of saltwater, and its outstanding feature is a sandy shore that curves along the serpent shaped lagoon. The outcrop of land that the snaking shore belongs to is a parcel of land with untamed bush. Opposite the outcrop, on the outer edges of the curve, mangroves and palm trees surround the waters, giving the lagoon a wild yet protected vibe!

In this rarely visited corner of Bantayan Island, you’ll be isolated from the world with just the sea, the sun, and the sand to accompany you – the best formula to relax!

There are two main beach parts that you can visit. First is the sandy-stony beach fronting the sea, where waves constantly break on the shore and you have a scenic view of Hilantagan Island. Second is the sandy curving beach in the lagoon among calm waters with a sandy bottom. In here, you can hear the calls of hundreds of birds nesting in the area.

The lagoon waters sparkle in the sun and mesmerizingly show off their immaculate clarity and cleanliness. Remember to stow your litter and keep the lagoon this way!

If the landscape and the scenery weren’t enough to enthrall you, hear this: Balidbid Lagoon is located on the eastern edge of Bantayan Island. Yep, that means an unobstructed view of the sunrise over the ocean! It’s truly a wonder how this spot is not making headlines for its natural beauty.

Cebu’s bet wins Mr. Gay World Philippines 2021

Joel Rey Carcasona, representing the Cebu Province, made history as the first queer to bag the crown at Mr. Fahrenheit / Mr. Gay World Philippines 2021 held on August 8, 2021.

Joel Rey, also known as Clive Christian, bested the other 23 candidates from other towns and cities in the Philippines.

During the competition, Joel Rey was asked this question: “A mother is often described as the light of the home; the father as the pillar of the home. How would you describe the role of the gay person in the family?”

“A gay person in the family has the same role as any other siblings. We give care, we give love to our parents. That’s why I want to participate in this competition because I want to get the crown. Because a crown is a symbol of empowernment. If I will be a title holder, I will be able to encourage everyone who struggled and worked hard for societal acceptance that they can contribute something to their family. At the end of the day, if I’ll be able to get this crown, it’s not just the crown I want to wear, but also a crown I want to share.”

Winning answer of Joel Rey Carcasona, Cebu Province

Joel Rey is a nurse by profession whose advocate is for health and wellness among the members of the LGBTQIA+ community. One of his campaigns include encouraging healthcare professionals in all settings, especially doctors “to wear badges, pins, and lanyards to show patients that they are allies of the community and will support them fully.”

The winner will represent the country in the Mr. Gay World 2021 this September.

Cebuanas are great multitaskers. They can juggle multiple responsibilities like work or school, run a business, and manage the household while also finding time for hobbies and interests. Despite the many tasks and demands of life, they always find ways to get the job done.

For many busy Cebuanas, on-demand delivery platform Lalamove has become their trusted partner for last-minute delivery needs. They provide fast, reliable, and affordable same day and door-to-door delivery services from sending packages to loved ones, delivering for food and small businesses, to buying groceries and running errands at the bank.

We asked four Cebuanas how they enjoyed Lalamove’s services and how it made their daily life much easier:

Urgent deliveries made possible

Through a funny skit, teacher turned viral sensation Danieca  Goc-ong, popularly known as Teacher Dan, showed how Lalamove can be a lifesaver when one forgets something important. In true Teacher Dan style, she showed how Lalamove comes to the rescue for last-minute delivery needs like when students leave an important report at home that their grades depend on. Lalamove’s partner drivers are carefully selected and trained to handle important documents, cash and delicate items.

Moving into a new home

No package is too big or small with Lalamove. Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Gazini Ganados personally experienced their efficient service after having clothes and furniture delivered to her newly furnished apartment/new place. “Lalamove, with their wide fleet of vehicles and multiple services, can fulfill everyone’s delivery needs safely, quickly and efficiently,” she said. Lalamove has a fleet of light trucks and MPVs that can transport large items. They also offer the Driver Assistant Service that allows partner drivers to help carry items up to 50 kg.

A trusted partner for small businesses

Mom and businesswoman Chinky Nazareno Enopia, also known as ChinkyTita, operates her small business from home with the help of Lalamove. She was able to send orders, including late night cravings, without a hitch using Lalamove’s user-friendly app and its extra features and services. “It’s very convenient, very easy to book, not to mention sobrang daling gamitin ang app nila,” she said. Lalamove’s multi-stop feature was especially helpful in accommodating the many orders they receive daily. With multi-stop, businesses can deliver to up to 20 stops in Cebu in just one booking.

Meal cravings delivered with just a few taps

Since 2019, Divine Maitland-Smith has been the chef of The Garden at Soul Sierra, a wellness center in Cebu. She uses Lalamove to deliver The Garden’s delicious plant-based meals from the remote highlands of Busay to those who wish to enjoy it at their home. Recently, she sent Mushroom Chicharon to a good friend in just a few taps and it was delivered safely in less than an hour, hassle-free. Lalamove’s fleet of motorcycles can deliver small items from documents to food items. Partner riders also use an insulated box to keep food and beverages safe and at the right temperature.

Soon to rise: Monterrazas de Cebu with a breathtaking view

The development of the exclusive mountain property Monterrazas de Cebu is nearing its completion. This is after the fast-tracking of its new owner, said their company executive.

Alexander Ace Sotto, chief operating officer of 8990 HDC said that, “We assure our homeowners of our continued commitment to give the market a piece of investment that is worth their money and more. We have considered all issues tied up with this project and are committed to fulfill our promises to our buyers moving forward.”

In 209, the company has acquired this property from Genvi Development Corporation.

Since then, Monterrazas de Cebu, 8990 HDC worked double on their road networks and drainage. They also worked on their water, power, and auxiliary lines. These were all done with the promise to their home and lot owners. Hence, home construction activities and launching of more residential brands are to be expected within the master planned development.

This 200-hectare scenic and exclusive mountain property covers the scope of the Barangays Guadalupe, Subangdaku, Buhisan, and Tisa.

With the hiatus in 2018, the works on North Ridge Expansion 2 is now at 90% while Peak 3 is at 50%.

“We have improved Monterrazas de Cebu since we took over. In fact, development has been faster now,” said Sotto. He added that there’s a lot to be done in Monterrazas with plenty of room for expansion.
