Not to mention their side dishes such as tamago, kimchi, lettuce and so many more that are sure to complement the meat themselves.

Also, if you are less inclined to eat unlimited amounts of meat, you can order single order dishes like their famous bibimbap, a Korean rice bowl dish topped with sauteed vegetables, fried egg, kimchi and tasty meat.

Now you can switch networks without changing your number

It’s a long time coming but it’s here now. That wish of keeping our phone number regardless of what network we switch to is now available for all Filipinos.

It definitely lessens the hassle of memorizing our new numbers time and time again. Having a permanent number also helps our contacts since some of them only have that old number you have.

This practice which is now available in the Philippines is called Mobile number portability (MNP). It is a global practice that allows a mobile phone customer to keep their number regardless of what networks they switch to.

“We do expect to experience some inconveniences as we start offering the service, but we are confident that with the continued cooperation and hard work of our three partner telcos, we can say that finally, forever is here,” – Melanie Manuel, Telecommunications Connectivity Incorporated (TCI) general manager

TCI is the consortium of Globe, Smart, and DITO.

The act of switching or moving a phone number to another provider is called porting and it is free of charge.

Step by step process of Porting:

  1. Checking of eligibility.
  2. Users must not have an outstanding balance and should not be blacklisted by the network.  The number must not be locked to a service provider as well.
  3. Getting a unique subscriber code (USC)
  4. This code will be from your/their home network.
  5. Filling up the application form
  6. This form will be from the network they want to switch into. Subscribers will also need a government-issued ID and proof of ownership of the mobile number.
  7. Waiting for the new SIM.
Photo from unsplash.com by Leon

Must-know info in porting on different Mobile networks

  • DITO

As the newest and hot network today, for those interested to join the DITO, subscribers may visit any of its physical stores or download its app.

  • Smart

To be able to switch into Smart, subscribers will have to answer this form.

  • Globe

For those who want to leave Globe: subscribers can text “USC” to 5050

For those who want to move to Globe: users will have to check their eligibility first through this link.

Photo from moneysense.ph

Internal Porting

Internal porting is the term used when moving only within your mother network.

It is allowed for Globe and Smart and its affiliate networks like:

  •  moving from Globe to TM
  • moving from Smart to TNT or Sun
  • Switching from postpaid to prepaid or vice versa

Globe: Done through Globe stores or via the GlobeOne app

Smart: Users can book an appointment online

TCI is now expecting to have at least 1 million subscribers who will make the switch. The question is, will you be one of them?

Silmugi River: The Enchanting Emerald Waters in Borbon

Many places in Cebu unclaimed by man is said to host dwellings for the unseen. There’s just something different for wilderness and natural wonders not influenced by the touch of humans. A certain river up north is surrounded by such mystical stories.

Regardless of folklore, the sole river of Borbon holds a haunting beauty. Its striking green waters and proximity to mangroves gives it an isolated, yet peaceful feeling.

Silmugi River winds for 12 kilometers from source to sea. Its clean and enchanting emerald waters originate inland from the rainwater collected in the mountains and calmly flows to meet the wide-open sea ahead.

Photo from sugbo.ph provided by Hannah Mae Arrabis
Photo from sugbo.ph provided by Jerry Guzman

The river’s simple “old river” charm is accentuated by the bordering mangroves that embrace its banks and the fishing boats parked lazily along its banks.

Locals say that the river is enchanted, and there are folk stories of a phantom ship making its way inland passing from the sea through the river – right through the bridge. Sightings have been reported and passed by word-of-mouth for years and years, yet there is no evidence of the ship.

Nonetheless, it’s still fair to say that the river is captivating. Its allure precedes everything else and seeing it in person is just lovely. Even locals celebrate Silmugi’s wonder and relevance to their town by throwing a lively festival every January.

Silmugi River was used as a trade and ferry route in the past. Dozens of boats would paddle up and down the river to carry goods and people around. In the advent of technological improvement, the river is being used less and less, but the people still remember its old significance.

The annual Silmugi Festival involves street dancing and a traditional prayer asking God for bountiful harvest. The festivities also double as a sign of gratitude to the town’s patron saint, the martyr St. Sebastian.

If you’re on a trip going far north, it’s a good idea to stop by the enchanting Silmugi River to appreciate a rare view. There is a boardwalk complete with a footbridge and a jetty to allow a closer look at the calm waters, however, the overall project was discontinued.
