Lettuce is slowly becoming the favorite vegetable and most seen in Cebu with all the Samgyupsal restaurants and of course, it is a staple in the vegetable salad department.

A new garden in Medellin though has grown lettuce literally in cups. At first, they grew it as for the love and passion of lettuce but is now becoming a thriving business.
Paulen Hydroponic Garden is owned by the couple, childhood sweethearts, Paul Alvin Tan and Louielen Zanoria Jalipa situated in Purok Tangke, Poblacion.

Rows and rows of lettuce in cups and lined through plumbing pipes is a sight you won’t see every day.
Wanting to grow their own lettuce but has a lack of space, Paul learned the hydroponic system of farming which he set up in a 100sqm space at the front yard of their ancestral home.

Currently, the garden yields 200 cups of the Batavia variety weekly. Their harvest is almost immediately sold out as many have reservations from Medellin households and a local Korean restaurant.
The small business is thriving so the couple is looking forward to expanding it to cater to the increasing demand for lettuce.

They also hope to inspire others to grow their own fresh healthy lettuce the hydroponic way.
Paul is currently on seafarer duties so Louielen is now taking care of the business. Buyers and visitors come to the green garden often so if you’ll have time, you can take a peek of the beautiful sight and probably buy some lettuce as well.

Famed Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue has joined forces with Disney, particularly with Star Wars franchise in a new collection showing famous characters from the beloved franchise as furniture.
Armchairs, footstools, and lamps – these are just some of the featured items Cobonpue used and took inspiration from Star Wars characters. One armchair incorporated Darth Vader’s mask design as well as a wooly stool as inspired by the beloved Chewy or Chewbacca’s hair.

Made from hand-woven polyethylene, the intricate Imperial Wings Armchair takes its cues from the “unforgettable” symbol of the Imperial fleet. The chair also aims to channel “agility and strength” of the TIE fighter, which was known as a distinctive single-pilot vehicle with two vertical side wings specially designed for combat.

Aside from Cobonpue, famous designer Zaha Hadid also drew inspiration from the beloved fictional franchise. The world-famous designer produced a corkscrew-shaped coffee table inspired by the classic double-bun hairstyle worn by Princess Leia.

Our favorite style icon, Heart Evangelista is set to star in a Netflix series.
In a report from GMA Network, Heart confirmed this and said she has a project in the works with Netflix. However, the actress did not confirm yet if it’s for the upcoming season of “Bling Empire” which was rumored to be the show she was working on last year.
Photo from Heart Evangelista’s Instagram Account
“Definitely, I did film for a show in Netflix. Hindi ko alam sa totoo lang kung kailan siya lalabas. Kasi with anything abroad siguro, parang ‘di mo siya aasahan, because it’s really destiny for me if you want to achieve anything in Hollywood.”

We go to the beach to see and dip in the beautiful sea but staying in a resort entails a list of things to consider.

A newly opened in San Remigio is ready to take on the challenge of giving it all when it comes to a beach resort here in Cebu particularly in aesthetics.
Ricas Beach Resort boasts of aesthetic native huts, cabanas and a amazing big mango tree that is just magical at night. Their native huts are a thing of beauty as its tent-like features complements the atmosphere so well and are as modern as they can get with them being airconditioned.

And though the resort may look built for aesthetics, it is a family-oriented resort and designed to provide children and adults a memorable experience. It is equipped with both an adult pool and kiddie pool with a mini waterpark.
Sunset sessions at Rica’s Beach Resort are also quite memorable and a highlight during your stay. Lounging in the cabanas while chilling with your friends all while inhaling the sea breeze.

The restaurant and function hall in the resort are still under construction though so they don’t serve food yet which allows every guest to bring as many foods and drinks as they can for now.
Combining a family-oriented design with the beach side feature and aesthetics makes this new resort worthy of a visit.

There will soon be no more ‘spaghetti wires’ in sight in Mandaue City, Cebu.
Mandaue City government had a series of talks with Visayan Electric (VECO) and water, internet, and cable utility providers to place all wires and cables within the business districts or the planned urban development (PUD) areas in the city underground.
Photo from Unsplash
The officials said that the initial purpose of the underground cabling project was to beautify the city without the ‘spaghetti wires,’ but after Typhoon Odette hit the city, they realized its importance “because there will be less damage during a typhoon and the restoration of power will be quicker as the wires will not be cut.”
Photo from Philippine News Agency Official Website
According to the City Administrator in an interview with CDN Digital, the project implementation will come in phases where targets will be identified:
First Phase (Short-term): This period covers the promotion of the rehabilitation, construction, or restoration of utility lines within three years of the ordinance’s passage.
Second Phase (Medium-term): This focuses on promoting the partial implementation of underground utility line installation to be completed within a year of the ordinance’s adoption.
Third Phase (Long-term): This also begins three years after the ordinance’s approval, requiring affected owners or operators to adhere to the ordinance’s mandatory grounding of all utility lines.
Photo from Unsplash
When the super typhoon hit the island of Cebu, it took the utility providers to restore the lines. Until now, there are still several areas in the city where power has not yet been restored.
Photo from LJay Manayon
The City Government of Mandaue is considering forging a joint venture agreement with the utility providers for the plan to materialize. However, there’s no word yet on the target date of implementation.
