Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is probably one of those government agencies that has proven time and time again how helpful they are to our fellow Filipino workers.
Photo from Unsplash
And now they have more help planned as TESDA just announced that they will be adding five more foreign language courses that would be fully operational by September.
“By September, fully operational na ang additional foreign languages natin”
– JOHN BERTIZ, TESDA DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL FOR OPERATIONS
These additional language courses that will be available for Filipino workers are:
Italian
French
Mandarin
Arabic

The following existing TESDA programs under the National Language Skills Center has already produced around 14,000 graduates since 2007.
English Proficiency for Customer Service Workers

Located across Velez hospital in F. Ramos St., Cebu City, Kusina ni Osting can clearly be seen as it fronts a line of pans cooking and the noodles boiling.

As it offers a variety of fast food, it is also a fast-paced restaurant/eatery. Once you’re there and have chosen what to eat, you’ll see the skills and magic of the fastest chef in Cebu.
Not only does he cook all that is offered but you can even make a request of mix and match for everything there. The choice is yours.

“ako napud?” “paspasa gud sa tagay” “wa ka niinom noh?”
These are words that only legends know.
A long-standing debate that really seems to have no end in every drinking sesh or tagay session.
Photo from Shopee
As the night gets deeper and the drinks seem to be bottomless, all the antics, excuses, and acting surface and the debate for equal sharing of the drinks start.
Lucky for all, this shop find will be the answer we’re looking for. We can now make sure no one is cheating on the shots again and track who is in the group.
Photo from ShopeePhoto from Shopee
This nifty dispenser will now become a must-have for all the next drinking sessions planned. It will be on the checklist of items to bring by the group or to whoever is tasked to bring it.
It will be either the life savior of every tanggero in the group or their downfall. This all depends on the kind of tanggero you have, one who cheats and gets all of the group drunk except for him/her or the one who gets wasted along with the group that can’t keep track of the shots.
The spotted drinking item is from an online store and will now be responsible for the drinks’ refill and equal volume distribution.
Dispenser features
made out of plastic
will evenly distribute your alcohol or any drink
pour many glasses at once
pass through six spouts
Price is P137 only

Enjoy your well-distributed drinks with the group and drink lots of water after, so steer away from a bad hangover. And when we say group, we’re referring to adults of drinking age. Drinking should also be done responsibly, so keep this in mind always.
The act of “Ghosting” has been declared as an emotional offense in a house bill filed by a lawmaker and it is making everyone check their memories and remember all the times they’ve been ghosted or ghosted somebody.
Photo from Unsplash
And rightfully so as a legal offense is no joke. This is how the act of ghosting was presented in the explanatory note of the House Bill No. 611 filed by Negros Oriental Rep. Arnie Teves Jr.
Ghosting
–when someone cuts off all forms of communication can be mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting to the “ghosted” person. Studies have shown that social rejection of any kind activates the same pain pathways in the brain as physical pain, meaning there’s a biological link between rejection and pain. That goes for friends and partners, alike
This was in consideration of the changes on the realm of dating especially in the age of social media. Ghosting usually happens in a dating or romantic relationship which in our time majorly comprises of communication through our mobile phones.
The explanatory note of the bill also states that “the ambiguity with ghosting is that there is no real closure between parties concerned”.

With the growing awareness of the society on mental health, the lawmaker stresses in the note that ghosting affects the mental state of the “ghosted” and even said that it can be “likened to a form of emotional cruelty” and should be punished as an emotional offense
We all know that ghosted people will try to wrestle on possible reasons for the unexplained act and that it has become a quiet common experience for all of us.
Although the house bill was filed, Teves did not provide any penalty or punishment for such an act.
Photo from Unsplash
We’re sure that there will be proper grounds for this so no need to panic yet and there’s still the big question of “if it ever becomes law”.
What do you think? Is what Rep. Teves says “trauma due to no real closure” a reasonable ground to make ghosting an emotional offense be passed onto law?
Face-to-face classes is indeed coming and all students or at least some of them are now able to go to school like the normal days before the pandemic.
Photo form Unsplash
With the actual classes coming back though, some worries have also resurfaced like the uniforms for the young ones.
This worry was quickly alleviated by the Department of Education (DepEd) last July 18 though, as they announced that learners will not be required to wear school uniforms for the school year 2022-2023.
Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte have stated in a Viber message that this is to ease the financial burden on families of learners.
She cited DepEd Order (DO) No. 065, s. 2010 which is a Direct Order way before the pandemic that did not require the wearing of school uniforms.
Photo form Unsplash
DepEd Order (DO) No. 065, s. 2010 states that
wearing of a school uniform shall not be required in public schools
students with existing uniforms may continue using these uniforms to avoid incurring additional costs for new attire
Our country and the whole world are still going through the coronavirus pandemic along with increasing prices, inflationary pressures and economic losses. The non-requirement of uniforms is a great help to all the Filipino parents and families already.
The opening of classes was also discussed and will push through on August 22, 2022 while the mandatory face-to-face classes will start on November 2, 2022.
Photo form Unsplash
Both the public and private schools in the country have options on how to conduct their classes:
five-day in-person classes
blended modality
distance learning
Let’s all hope that these face-to-face classes will solve the growing concerns from the parents and citizens on the educational learning loss during the pandemic online learning setup.
Well, it seems like there is a possibility of the younger gen being more sober for the coming years as a bill that would increase the age limit for alcoholic drinks was filed at the House of Representatives.
Photo from Unsplash
The Philippines currently has the legal limit for purchasing and drinking alcohol at the age of 18, but it is not strongly implemented as minors can easily buy them at convenience stores and sari-sari stores.
The bill filed by lawmakers Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte and Benguet Rep. Eric Yap, House Bill 1753 also referred as “Anti-Underage Drinking Bill” sees that young people under 21 and those deemed “unqualified individuals” are banned from purchasing and consuming alcoholic drinks.
Unqualified individuals
One of the highlights of the bill aside from its age limit is the term used “unqualified individuals”. This refers to:
persons under 21 years of age
people with disabilities or a mental illness
those 21 years old but are unable to fully take care of themselves or protect themselves from abuse, neglect, cruelty, exploitation, or discrimination because of a physical or mental disability or condition

In case of violation of unqualified individual
Violation in any of the provisions shall be afforded the following interventions in order:
First offense
The Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) will counsel the unqualified individual before he is properly handed over to the parent/s or guardian/s for the first offense;
Second offense
the violator will be required to attend, together with the parent/s or guardian/s, two consecutive regular sessions of counseling conducted by the BCPC
Subsequent offenses
the unqualified individual shall be handed over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development office for appropriate counseling and proper disposition on the matter

Punishment and Penalties
If this bill is enacted into law, selling alcohol to those below 21 or just pretending to be over 21, will be illegal. Establishments and individuals caught in violation will be punishable under the proposed law.
First Offense will result to either a fine, jail time or both.
Fine: P50,000
Imprisonment: not more than 3 months
Succeeding Offenses will result to all three penalties
Fine: P50,000
Imprisonment: not more than 3 months
Revocation of the license to operate a business
The most senior officers of a corporate violator will be held liable.
Public officials who block the enforcement of the law will be punished with suspension and a jail time of up to six months.
Alcohol use kills 2.5 million people yearly, including 320,000 peopled aged 15 to 29, Mr. Duterte said, citing data from the World Health Organization.
“It is the third leading risk factor for poor health globally, and responsible for almost 4% of all deaths in the world, according to 2004 estimates.”

Duterte said alcohol use is the third leading risk factor for poor health globally as it causes an estimated 2.5 million deaths every year, a significant proportion of which occurs in the young.
The lawmaker cited data from the World Health Organization, alcohol use kills 2.5 million people yearly, including 320,000 peopled aged 15 to 29 and further stated that the youth have a vital role in nation-building and it’s the duty of the state to promote and protect their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social well-being.
With natural calamities happening left and right recently, there’s always a need for donations. Whether you are donating to NGOs or your local charities, another good thing about donating is that it is also good for the environment.

Lending your pre-loved clothes (yet still in good condition at the very least) is a very good idea if you have an excess of them, and here are some recommended organizations where you can give them away.
1. Donate a Toy Philippines
Who says that donating is exclusively only for food and clothing? Somewhere out there, there’s a kid who wants to have a teddy bear or a toy car, regardless if it’s pre-loved. Through donated toys, Donate a Toy Philippines is a non-profit organization that aims to help kids develop their physical and emotional well-being by providing less fortunate kids with toys.
They say that reading is one of the best habits anyone can develop, and how good of an idea it is if you can help out a kid with such habit by lending your pre-loved books. Reading Club 2000 is a non-profit organization based in Makati and reportedly received books as donations on a daily basis. These books are then sent out to various schools, orphanages, and many more.
With hundreds of thousands of electronic devices being manufactured yearly, some of these electronic devices are not disposed of properly and still functioning. If you have any electronic devices that are of no use anymore and still functioning or with minor damages, Humble Sustainability will accept your pre-loved gadgets and donate them to those in need.
The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely made e-commerce a common thing now both for buyers and sellers. And one of the most commonly bought items are clothes, where online clothing shops like SHEIN have stocks readily available. If you’re one of those who bought a clothing item and only wore it once to achieve that OOTD, Declutter Manila is a public Facebook page and a good place to donate these pre-loved clothes. You can also find other users and barter your clothes with theirs.
5. Resurrection Furniture and Found Objects Gallery
This organization collects your old furniture, improves them and resells them for a profit. Of course, once you drop off your household items, you can have a small fee or choose to donate them and have them restored for future buyers.

Also, a public Facebook group, Pamigay is a good place to trade clothes, give donations to or just simply meet other people with common interests like donating. Members are encouraged to donate the items in their rooms that are not really used. With more than 70,000 members as of this writing, the Facebook group is a good place to spark your interest with donating.

Bahay Tuluyan is a children’s rights organization that is working to respond to abuse and violence against children and to ensure all children’s rights are fulfilled and protected. Since 1987, the non-profit organization has been helping children mostly with educational materials, clothing and furniture.
Though known international, I Support the Girls MNL is based in Manila with the same goal as an NGO with its international counterpart: helping homeless and less fortunate women with basic access to hygiene products such as sanitary napkins and even pre-loved undies.

Through its LEGO IDEAS series, the company is officially releasing a “The Office” themed set, granting the request of die-hard The Office fans. The LEGO IDEAS is the company’s initiative which serves as an opportunity to bridge the gap between fans and LEGO designers. The same platform allows builders of all ages to submit designs that are then reviewed by the community to determine interest in the concept.
Upon review with at least 10,000 “supporters”, these designs are then reviewed by the higher-ups from LEGO to evaluate if there is indeed a market for such designs. Luckily, designs for The Office themed set is becoming a reality, but the road to get there was actually rough for Dunder Mifflinites.
