Mactan-Cebu International Airport hailed as Asia’s Best Airport in Airport and Destination Marketing

MCIA does it again!

The Mactan-Cebu International airport has been awarded Asia’s Best Airport in Airport and Destination Marketing in the “Under 5M Passengers Category”. The award was given during the Routes Asia 2023 Awards night held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport was represented by MCIAA’s Atty. Tani-Angub Gaviola, Naomi Arcayan, Elmar Tagaloguin, and Jemar Nietes. They were also accompanied by GMCAC’s Aines Liboro, Ivan Romano, and Inaki Ponio.

The award was well-deserved because of MCIAA and GMCAC’s efforts toward route development. In order to properly do this, they developed a two-pronged approach such as airline marketing which is to create supply and destination marketing to ensure their airline partners’ sustainability as they cater to the demands for air services.

BingoPlus: Finding Love in B-I-N-G-O

Who would have thought that there is L-O-V-E in B-I-N-G-O?

You know, at one point in your childhood, you met people and friends who are definitely irreplaceable. And what joy would it be to see them again? And who knows, they might be the “love” you finally deserve.

Photo from BingoPlus Facebook Page

To celebrate Love month, BingoPlus brings us the story of Claring and Robin. A story of rekindling friendship, and romance, and how two people did not only win at Bingo but at love as well.

You can read the story below:

Finding love B-I-N-G-O

Dear Editor,

It was a beautiful day one afternoon at a cafe near my place along A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue City, Cebu, when I met my now fiance.

I was playing a then-new online bingo app, BingoPlus, listening to the host as they announce the winning letters and patterns. I was one ball close to matching a minor prize pattern.

“Yes!” I yelled as I hit the pattern. Right when the other few customers looked at me, another person yelled, “Yes!” somewhere in the corner.

I looked in the direction of the person yelling. It was a man my age looking at his phone. I recognized him, he was Robin, my childhood best friend.

I told him, “Binoy, ikaw na? Kahinumdom pa ka nako? (Binoy, is that you? Do you remember me?)”

He answered me, “Claring, pag sure oy, ikaw diay na? Kumusta naman ka? (Claring, are you sure that’s you? How are you).”

Robin moved to my table and we began reminiscing our past. We were best friends in elementary school until we graduated Grade Six in 2008. We used to play bingo at the back of our school auditorium in the afternoons.

Photo from Unsplash

After graduation, he moved to Talisay City and I stayed in Mandaue City. We never saw each other again.

I pulled out an old winning bingo card from my wallet and showed it to Robin.

I asked him, “Awa. Mao ni atong pinakalast nga bingo. Kahindumdom pa ka?”

He replied, “Siempre uy! Wa gyod diay na nimo giwala. Swerte kaayo ka ana. (Of course! You never lost that. You are very lucky for that).”

Right then, he pulled out another bingo card from his wallet. It was a losing bingo card with one number left.

“Ako pud ni gihipos kay basin diay makaduwa pa tag balik. (I also kept this just in case we could play again,” he said.

I told Robin it has been years since I played actual Bingo because I never got time. But Bingoplus has allowed me to play my favorite game for a minimal price.

Robin said he started playing BingoPlus, too. He has won some prizes from time to time, too, but mostly he played to enjoy the game.

He then told me, “We should play together!”

Fast forward six months later, Robin and I rekindled our friendship and started dating. While we no longer play the traditional Bingo, we continued to play BingoPlus on our phones. Bingo remains to be our favorite pastime.

Last week, Robin said he wanted to play Bingo with me. I thought he meant BingoPlus, but no, he meant actual child-toy bingo. When I opened the card, instead of numbers, the card has small letters.

When I completed the pattern, I realized they spelled, “Will you marry me?” Of course, I said yes!

I guess you can say I hit the jackpot with Bingo! We are getting married this year and I will be a June bride. Isn’t it exciting?

Love,

Clare

P.S. When playing Bingo, as in love, we need to play responsibly.

From friends that drifted apart to lovers who always have each other’s hearts. Claring and Robin’s love story is proof that love is absolutely everywhere, even in Bingo. Convinced? Try out BingoPlus, who knows, you won’t only win prizes but love too.

Dine at the Salle à Manger by the International Culinary Arts Academy

The Salle à Manger is ready to serve Cebuanos for 8 weeks.

The International Culinary Arts Academy’s training restaurant, “Salle à Manger” started opening its doors to Cebuanos last February 10, 2023. The restaurant is fully operated by the academy’s second-year students as part of their training program.

Photo from International Culinary Arts Academy Cebu Facebook Page

The students go over all processes of running a restaurant, from costing to finalizing the menu before they are officially open for business.

Sugboph was graciously invited to the restaurant opening night, and here’s what we think.

Exceptional Ambiance and Service

Upon entering the Salle à Manger, we were greeted by a white-cloth table set up. The restaurant gave off a fancy and comfortable feel. There’s also music playing in the background which definitely elevates the ambiance.

Photo from International Culinary Arts Academy Cebu Facebook Page
Photo from International Culinary Arts Academy Cebu Facebook Page

The service is also exceptional. Once we got seated, we were immediately given a copy of the restaurant’s menu. The students which were assigned as servers were also kind enough to help us with the menu.

Throughout our meal, they always made sure to ask us how everything was so far or if we wanted anything else. You can really see how well-trained the students are in terms of how they handle the diners.

Delectable Cuisine

The Salle à Manger has an array of food options on their menu. They have Soups and Salads, Starts, Sandwiches, Main Courses, and desserts.

We tried a few items on the menu.

Chef’s Salad

To start off, we ordered the ‘Chef’s Salad’ which was recommended by one of the students. It’s a variety of mixed lettuce, vegetables, fruit, grana padano, and croutons. You can choose either Honey Mustard or Balsamic Vinaigrette as your dressing.  We went with Balsamic Vinaigrette.

Photo from International Culinary Arts Academy Cebu Facebook Page

The salad was fresh and the Balsamic Vinaigrette added a wonderful tanginess to the salad. The mixed lettuce was incredibly crisp as well. The croutons were also good. If you get a bit of everything in one bite, you’d get different textures and flavors.

Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup and Side Salad

The next dish we ordered was the grilled cheese with tomato soup and side salad. Now, this was the ultimate comfort meal. The cheese in grilled cheese was milky, buttery, and melted to perfection. The bread was also grilled evenly which added a little bit of crispiness.

The tomato soup was light and flavorful. You can really taste the tomatoes. Dipping the grilled cheese sandwich in the tomato soup really elevated the flavors.

Pasta Carbonara

The restaurant also served pasta carbonara. And no, it’s not the usual carbonara that we know of. It had no cream or milk, instead, it had egg, parmesan, and bacon which are the exact ingredients of a traditional Carbonara.

The pasta carbonara was creamy because of the parmesan and the egg. The pasta was also al dente.

Photo from International Culinary Arts Academy Cebu Facebook Page

Grilled Pork Rib Chops

Time for the meat. We chose the grilled pork rib chops. The dish consisted of pork rib chops which were grilled and served with mashed potatoes and a mushroom sauce.

Taste-wise, it was flavorful however, it might be a tad salty for others. The pork chop goes really well with the mushroom sauce.

White Chocolate Vanilla Entremet

Of course, we ended our dinner with dessert. We had the White Chocolate Vanilla Entremet which was a cake that had a layer of white chocolate mousse dusted with cocoa or chocolate powder.

The Entremet was definitely a bite of nostalgia, the cream reminded us of a childhood snack. After one bite, it instantly became the favorite menu item of the night. It was light, creamy, and overall delicious.

Overall Verdict

Overall, our dining experience at the Salle à Manger was definitely a delight. Service was incredible and the food was exquisite. It was also such a great sight to see aspiring culinary professionals in their element as they provide guests with great food experiences possible.

If you want to try something new post-valentines day, the Salle à Manger will be open and ready to serve you.

Its outdoor dining area gives guests the chance to enjoy a meal while gazing at city lights, taking in the fresh mountain air, and dining beneath the stars.
