A little too early for a Halloween prank, don’t you think?
People have their own ways of getting money, but some are just plain evil. Well, a man in Mexico has been arrested along with his Chucky doll after scaring people. Carlos “N” used the scary doll to scare and extort money from innocent passersby.
Photo from César Cespada/X
Chucky is a famous horror icon from “Child’s Play” movies.
According to reports, the suspect made the doll wield a large knife, a real one. Carlos “N” was allegedly under the influence of an illegal substance as he frightened people with his doll in the main square of Monclova, Mexico.
“He put the doll in their faces and was scaring people; it is an offense. [and] for this reason, he was arrested,”
said Juan Raul Alcocer, Monclova Police’s former director.
Chucky and Carlos “N” were arrested for public disturbance and for endangering the public.

In addition, Alcocer also reprimanded an officer for playing with the doll, putting handcuffs on it, and making it pose for the journalists.
Well, one thing is for sure. Even supernatural dolls are no match for the Monclova Police. However, using fear to extort money is not something to be taken lightly. Other people might have heart and health problems and be unable to handle being scared.
Beep Cebu announces that they will temporarily stop operations for six months due to serious issues.
Photo from BEEP Transport Facebook Page
The modern jeepney company released a memorandum last September 22, 2023. According to Beep Cebu, their decision to halt their operations is anchored by the lack of spare parts since the bus company gets its parts from Russia and Ukraine. Spare parts cannot be dispatched due to the ongoing war between the two countries.
Aside from that, their request for route or extension modifications has been delayed. Moreover, due to the construction of the BRT, Beep Cebu’s routes from Guadalupe to Carbon are affected. According to Beep Cebu, the construction prevents them from earning.
Written in the memorandum, Beep Cebu also claims that there is a “loss of original routine income because of continuous issuance of Special Permits to PUV competitors on the routes Cebu City Hall to IT Park & Banawa t Panagdait.”
Photo from BEEP Transport Facebook Page
“In order to stave off worse losses, we will need to wait for favorable conditions to return in Cebu, if any,”
Beep Cebu wrote.
Furthermore, Drivers and PAOs will also experience a 6-month temporary work suspension. Meanwhile, Terminal Staff will have a flexible work arrangement.
According to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Borb in Central Visayas’ Regional Director Eduardo Montealto Jr., Beep Cebu has not yet communicated with LTFRB-7 regarding its operation suspension.
Because of this, Montealto Jr. will issue a show cause order because, according to him, Beep Cebu is not allowed to halt operations without letting LTFRB-7 know.

To ease the worries of daily commuters, Montealto Jr. expressed that they can find other operators and that there are operators who will be happy to replace Beep Cebu.

CLI also celebrates Chairman and CEO Jose Soberano III winning PropertyGuru Real Estate Personality of the Year
A multi-billion publicly listed company founded in 2003, CLI looks back on its proud past and ahead to a bright future, which includes a much-anticipated expansion in Luzon
CLI presents over 100 masterfully designed projects in different stages of development across 16 cities in the VisMin region
Jose Soberano III, CLI Chairman and CEO, receives the industry’s highest distinction from the 11th PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards
In 2017, Cebu Landmasters became the first homegrown, Cebu-based real estate developer to be listed with the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE). Since then, CLI has recorded double-digit growth across all market segments.
“Every land is the same, but what we do with it separates a builder from a master,”
so goes the beginning of Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI)’s campaign for its 20th-anniversary celebration this September.
The leading property developer in VisMin proudly looks back on its storied past and ahead to the bright future as it marks two decades in the real estate development industry. Founded in 2003, CLI has evolved from its first three-million-peso housing project in Cebu’s countryside to a multi-billion-peso listed company with over 100 masterfully designed real estate projects in different stages of development across 16 cities in the VisMin region.
In the recent company town hall, CLI Chairman and CEO Jose Soberano III expressed his gratitude for the years that he and the company walked together as a family.
“We value where we come from as we continue to grow and learn to give our best in serving our customers,”
Soberano said.
“20 years is the time when a person is starting to blossom but has yet to grow into full maturity. As CLI celebrates two decades of real estate development, I can say that we have only started to bring Cebu Landmasters to its future.”
Building extraordinary experiences with a heart
CLI features a diversified portfolio of residences, offices, hotels and resorts, mixed-use developments and townships. More than building structures, the company takes pride in its core values that put heart into real estate development. CLI creates extraordinary experiences by being a customer-focused and community-centric company. It is also driven by the values of commitment, collaboration, leadership, integrity, and the agility to think big and act fast.
CLI chairman and CEO Jose Soberano III earned the industry’s highest distinction as the Philippines Real Estate Personality of the Year at the 11th Annual PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards. This is in recognition of Soberano’s outstanding achievements, both in his professional endeavors and as a leader deeply committed to the betterment of society.
These qualities have led CLI to thrive in its ventures, from launching its first residential condo in 2010 to introducing its flagship economic brand Casa Mira in 2017, while making its highly anticipated debut on the bourse. CLI became the first homegrown, Cebu-based real estate developer to be listed with the Philippine Stock Exchange. Since then, the company has recorded double-digit growth across all market segments.
CLI has also raked in several awards and recognitions over the years. Top of which was the prestigious PropertyGuru Philippine Property Awards naming CLI the Best Developer in the Philippines in 2021, and Best Developer in Visayas and Mindanao in back-to-back years. CLI also recently bagged the Community Initiative Award from the Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability Awards (ACES 2023), a prestigious accolade that recognizes inspiring leaders and sustainability advocates cross-industry and across Asia.
Soberano wins Real Estate Personality of the Year
In recognition of his outstanding achievements, both in his professional endeavors and as a leader deeply committed to the betterment of society, Soberano earned the industry’s highest distinction as the Philippines Real Estate Personality of the Year at the 11th Annual PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards.
Conferred by the editorial team of Property Report by PropertyGuru, the honor was bestowed on Soberano during a black-tie gala celebration on September 22 at Shangri-La The Fort, Manila. The PropertyGuru Real Estate Personality of the Year award strengthens Soberano’s legacy as a master real estate developer, as the honor serves as a crowning achievement of an individual who has made a significant impact in the Philippine real estate sector.
“Receiving the award is a real honor, one that extends beyond myself and I owe more to the entire Cebu Landmasters organization and everyone who has supported us all the way,”
Soberano said of his awarding.
“The timing of this recognition is especially meaningful to us as it coincides with CLI’s 20th year anniversary in the industry. I dedicate this to all the men and women behind CLI, and everyone who has believed in us, namely, our homeowners, partners, investors, and stakeholders, especially the VisMin community.”

CLI on reaching new heights
In the coming years, the company is set to strengthen its leadership in VisMin and pursue its strategic expansion in Luzon. The plan begins as early as next year, with intentions to break ground in the country’s biggest island cluster by mid-2024. The much-anticipated move forms part of CLI’s strategy of driving the company’s capital, expanding its portfolio, and striving for sustainability.
The plans align with CLI’s mission to guarantee stakeholder satisfaction by bringing out the extraordinary in every step of the real estate journey, being the most customer-centric and community-focused property developer. It’s a commitment that reflects Soberano’s profound dedication to enhancing the lives of communities across the Philippines.
“Investing in real estate carries a significant societal responsibility as it directly impacts the challenge of bridging the housing gap and the overall development of our country,”
Soberano says.
“As developers, our role’s impact to the community is huge, and I am here to serve however I can through Cebu Landmasters.”
Will two rival food and grocery delivery services merge into one?
Foodpanda’s parent company, Delivery Hero, is looking to sell the food and grocery delivery brand’s Southeast Asia business to potential buyers. One of these potential buyers is Foodpanda’s rival, Grab.
Photo from Unsplash
According to Delivery Hero, for Grab to operate Foodpanda in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines, the company needs to pay over €1 billion. However, Delivery Hero stated that Foodpanda will still operate in Hong Kong, Pakistan, and Taiwan.
Because of Delivery Hero’s move, investors who started having doubts about the company have accepted the news. Moreover, this led to a rise of shares by 13.5%.

In addition, Foodpanda aims to be “leaner, more efficient, and even more agile.”. Because of this, there have been recent waves of layoffs. Foodpanda also had job cuts back in September and February 2022.
Is this the start of a fully AI broadcasting community?
GMA finally introduced the first A.I. Sportscasters in Philippine history. The TV network gave a first look at Maia and Marco, the fully A.I. sportscasters. According to GMA, Marco and Maia will “help sports fans keep up with the latest sports news and updates” using state-of-the-art generative AI.
Photo from GMA News
Not only that, but Maia and Marco can also speak Tagalog. However, they do have a monotonous voice when speaking.
Both A.I. sportscasters made their debut last September 34, 2023, during the NCAA Season 99.
Despite the positive goals GMA has set, a lot of people on social media reacted negatively towards the A.I. sportscasters. Netizens have expressed their disagreement towards the A.I. sportscasters, saying that A.I. will replace human journalists.
Furthermore, other netizens expressed how artificial intelligence can never replicate human skills, talent, and emotions. However, there were also positive reactions. One netizen even said, “Ang ganda at ang gwapo parang totoong tao.” (They are so pretty and handsome, just like real humans.)
What do you think of this move done by GMA? Do you think it’s a good idea to integrate A.I. into journalism and the broadcasting industry? Let us know.

This long stretch of tropical cliché in Alcoy, Cebu is a famous spot frequented and adored by locals and tourists alike.
Due to the long stretch of Tingko Beach, it is divided into four parts: Tingko Beach 1 & 2, Voda Krasna Resort, and a public beach.
The public beach is the only one without fees but Tingko Beaches 1 & 2 have an entrance fees for maintenance costs.
Tingko Beach Resort is a great place for picnics and group activities but because most of it is also public, it tends to be packed on weekends and holidays.
Sugbo.ph File PhotoSugbo.ph File PhotoPhoto by Roman Garces Cisneros Jr.Photo by Roman Garces Cisneros Jr.
The beach also lacks in accommodations but it has wooden cottages for those who wish to rent. For overnight stays, the locals have beach houses, apartments and beach resorts that are just a walking distance from the beach that range from P500 to P1,000 for small to big groups.
The powdery white sands and azure waters that hem the coastline extends into a shallow drop filled with corals and aquatic flora that is perfect for snorkeling and diving. Coconut palm trees and beach cottages sitting atop limestone rocks also line the shore and offer shade for those who prefer to stay on land.
During low tides, groups may rent boats and check out the sandbar and coral island of Mabad-on Reef hiding just across the beach or explore secluded spaces in secret places.
Snorkeling, swimming, and virtually any activity is allowed as long as it does not damage the island and/or disturb other visitors.
