SM Seaside lights up iconic tower and cube as tribute to Kobe Bryant

0

SM Seaside City Cebu has lit up its iconic tower and cube on Monday night, January 27, with Kobe Bryant’s signature colors Purple and Yellow as a tribute.

Early Monday morning, the world mourned after hearing the heartbreaking news about the tragic death of NBA Legend Kobe Bryant along with his daughter Gigi and 7 other passengers in a helicopter crash in California.

Starting on January 28, Cebu’s biggest mall will also put up a photo wall where fans can write messages and post their photos of Kobe Bryant. This will be displayed at the G/F Mountain Wing Atrium in SM Seaside City Cebu in South Road Properties, Cebu City.

Soon to rise: An iconic skyscraper in Cebu City designed by Burj Khalifa’s Famous Designer

Cebu City may be an international playground for tourism, but no one can eclipse her skyscrapers.

From Cebu Business Park to IT Park, tall buildings have been dominating Cebu City for years and a tower from Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) is expected to skyrocket and add to these attractions.

Having been known to be building with the people in mind, CLI hired the designer of the world’s most iconic skyscrapers: Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM). We bet you are familiar with Burj Khalifa? Yes, they designed it too!

Therefore, with CLI and SOM working hand-in-hand, you can expect nothing less than perfection.

The tower is expected to be housing a 5-star hotel and world-class offices because Cebuanos deserve nothing less than global services.

Located along Cebu Business Park adjacent to the AppleOne building, this upcoming skyscraper is the ultimate symbol of glamour, glitz, and over-the-top services which the Queen City of the South is known for.

We bet tourism is not only the reason to ‘Celebrate Cebu,’ yes? Booming businesses, too!

A Life-Changing Fitness Journey: How this Cebuano lost 84 pounds?

Start the new year right, and this fitness story will surely inspire you and help jump-start your own journey too.

Meet Jay Santiago, a 22-year-old Cebuano who has lost roughly 84 pounds (38kg) of weight. Jay, who graduated AB Communication at Cebu Institute of Technology – University, was born and raised in Talisay City, Cebu. He weighed 260 pounds before.

“I was bullied. I was called different names like butanding, baboy ramo, dambuhala, etc. — and with my dark complexion and curly hair, I used to be a laughing stock. Maybe because that’s the reality, people are more loved and appreciated when they’re beautiful or attractive. Well don’t worry, I changed my mindset already. I’m now doing this for myself, for my health and wellness.”

Despite being called names before, his personality has always been cheerful and he loves entertaining people. He is a great host for events, and even though he watches his weight now, still is a certified foodie.

“I actually don’t have this super strict diet or meal plan or whatsoever but I’ve been very dedicated about IF or Intermittent Fasting. It’s not a diet method, it’s a meal pattern, it’s more on ‘when to eat’.

He follows the 16:8 method (16 hours fasting, 8 meal time). He eats anything he wants as long as it’s within the 8-hour eating period, focusing more on high fiber and protein foods for they help in losing the extra weight.

“I still eat sweets like ice cream, cake, milk tea, etc but still in moderation or in portion cause at the end of the day it’s still calorie deficit.”

“But also remember, what works for me, may not work for you, so it’s always better to consult a doctor first “about a diet.”

Jay started his fitness journey in July 2018.

“I go to the gym 4-5x a week. I train and workout at a crossfit gym in town, The Stayfit Box Cebu in Lahug. “

This 22-year-old has inspired many of his friends and hopes that he can inspire more.

“I don’t wanna force them because it’s their body so it’s their choice. Also, being physically fit does not always mean you’re healthy. As long as they’re happy and confident, then go for it. I just hope they always choose to become the better version of themselves.”

When asked for any tips or advice to all our readers, he said,

“Have the right people around you. Drink more water. Trust the process. Do it for yourself.”

Crate Café: Quench your thirst, Appreciate the view

0

According to studies, Filipinos are avid consumers of coffee. It has become an all-in-one beverage whatever time of the day; may it be during our morning breaks, lunch, afternoon snack, or even after dinner. Hence, I believe we have practically shifted from moderate to heavy coffee drinkers due to our love for caffeine.

Cebu has become a home to several coffee shops and cafes which have already invaded the city. Some of them have become prominent in the industry while some have just started bustling – a great example would be the Crate Café in the uphill Busay, Cebu City.

Crate Cafe Busay Cebu City (1)

Drink your coffee whilst looking at a beautiful view of the mountainside. Nestled along Cebu Transcentral Highway, this mountainside café though not that spacious is known for its serene atmosphere and a little view of the city.

Crate Café offers several espresso-based drinks and ample selection of pies, and cakes. Some of their most prominent drinks are the Banana Coffee Caramel and Raspberry White Mocha.

But don’t worry if you’re not into caffeine, the café also has several non-coffee drinks like chocolate drinks, tea, and soda.

TIP: Visit the shop between 4:30 – 5:30PM and witness the beautiful sunset. Enjoy the view whilst you quench your thirst.

Cancalanog Falls: Enchanting Wonder in Alegria

0

Did you know that there are claims that waterfalls contain an ample number of negative ions which somehow increase our serotonin levels? This explains why we feel relax just by watching the motion and sound of the moving water. Amazing, right?

This also answers the question why a lot of foreign and local tourists love to wander around the Philippines, which is known to be home to several beautiful cascades and hidden treasures that are yet to be discovered – one of which is Cebu’s very own Cancalanog Falls in Alegria. It has an entrance fee of just ₱30 per head.

Also known as Cangkalanog Falls, this mesmerizing natural wonder is famous for its resemblance to Surigao’s Enchanted River due to its bluish-green ice-cold water which creates a stunning fresh swimming pool.

Its picturesque view of the nature – birds over your head, trees surrounding the watering hole, and wind caressing your skin, surely creates a soothing vibe to your mind and soul.

However, just a little heads-up if you wish to visit this enchanting place, do not expect for this hidden waterfall to be like the other magnificent ones when it comes to its height but don’t fret, Cancalanog Falls may not be as tall as the others, but surely its unique glow of the waters and relaxing atmosphere will make up for it.

Expenses:

  • Entrance fee: ₱30 per head
  • Bus fare: ~₱170 per head (one-way)
  • Motorbike (Habal-habal): – ₱75 per head (one-way)

Note:

  • There is an available comfort room.
  • If you wish to stay overnight, permission from the operators is highly required.
  • Food and refreshments can be purchased at the registration area. The place can sometimes get crowded during peak seasons.
  • Should you have any questions or concerns, you may contact the Alegria Municipal Hall at (032) 476 7092.

How to get there?

Exact Location: Sangi, Alegria, southern Cebu (right before Cambais Falls and 1-hour away from Moalboal). 3 hours away from the city proper.

BY BUS: From the Cebu South Bus Terminal, ride any bus bound for Barili. Inform the driver to drop you off at the Sangi junction in Alegria. From there, ride a habal-habal or motorcycle to the drop-off point going to the falls.

From the drop-off point, you will walk for about 20 minutes before you reach to Cancalanog.

Tip: Make prior arrangements with a habal-habal driver to pick you up at a later time since motorcycles do not usually pass by the area

BY CAR: If you’re driving a private vehicle, navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Cancalanog Falls”. There’s a parking space from the starting point or registration area. Note, road is a bit narrow and steep on some areas. You will also need to walk for about 20 minutes from the parking or registration area to the falls.

Quiz: How well do you know the Cebuano language?

121

It is sad reality that a slew of Cebuanos mix up their dialect, in some ways, with other languages like English and Tagalog for several possible reasons or situations. Even I, myself, am guilty of it. Though it doesn’t really mean we are ditching our own language, right? And definitely doesn’t mean we love and care less for Cebu. But just for the sake of fun with a little trivia and learning on the side, take this “Bisdak Test” and find out how well do you know the Cebuano language.
