It’s a famous Lenten food that has become a tradition in the Visayas region. And to those who haven’t tried making their own yet, we have here a simple home recipe of that delicious goodness that you can share with the whole family.

P.S. This home recipe of Binignit is from my mom, Elvira Baluyos.

  • 6 cups water

Procedure:

  1. Prepare and Slice ingredients
  2. Soak Landang (palm flour jelly balls) in water

  4. Add soaked landang to boiling water
  5. After 5 mins, Add the sticky rice
  6. Wait for another 5 mins and add the chopped Camote, Gabi/Ube and washed sago

  9. Then add the banana and nangka to the mixture
  10. Let it stay.
  11. Mix 1/4 brown sugar to the 1st half of coconut milk. Stir to dissolve sugar.
  12. Check if everything is cooked.

  15. Wait until it boils and it’s ready to serve.

Nike produces Face Shields and PPEs for medical frontliners

More businesses have taken their parts in contributing great initiatives to help with COVID-19 battle efforts.

One of the world’s top athleisure providers, Nike will also be contributing their share to help the world fight against COVID-19. Nike will be producing face shields and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to our frontliners.

Nike will be utilizing their own materials, including those for Nike Air soles. They will be creating full-face shields and air-purifying respirator (PAPR) lenses to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).

“Nike’s generous response to the COVID-19 crisis helps to instill an added layer of confidence and support for healthcare workers, that we can safely carry our the jobs we were born to do,”

OHSU School of Medicine’s Miko Enomoto, M. D.

The footwear giant will be repurposing the collar padding intended for their shoes, cord from their apparel, and the TPU component of Nike signature – the Nike Air soles for the PPE in the form of face shields and PAPR.

May more businesses help us win this battle. This we should pray.

Viral video: “Never argue with a Bisaya”

If you think you are about to win an argument, think again.

This is always the case when you’re talking to a bisaya. Winning an argument is not an easy feat. We’ve got plenty of rebuttals and we can even curse you without even knowing.

To others, we may sound lame. But to our fellow Bisdak, we are already on top of our game. And though we don’t really encourage cursing, what we’re trying to say is that we’re encouraging winning, in all ways possible.

never argue with a bisaya

We’ve got thousands of expressions we could use against you, but these could only mean the same thing.

We could say “Sumbagon ko nang ulo nimo ron!” or “Sumbagon ta nuon ka ron!” Both may differ in translation literally, they both mean the same. The first means “I will punch you in the head!” whereas to “I will punch you!” for the latter. Though they literally mean differently, they both express anger.

If you have plans of arguing with a Bisaya, this article could really make you think again. Dili lang mi maayo mokanta, mosayaw, o mo-drama, kay kaya mo namo na balikason if magkalisod na. I rest my case.

Here is a video of why you should never consider arguing with a Bisaya:

THE BISAYA LANGUAGE IS CRAAAZY~The funny thing is we don’t really do what we say, we’re really just creative when we swear. I know I took this video speaking English but effin love being bisaya ❤️ #BisayaRepresentsFollow JT on IG 😊 @guccijoeeDont forget to like and follow the page to be updated sa among vids!

Philippines’ First Microsatellite Diwata-1 returns to Earth after 4 years in space

“Welcome back, home! You will always be remembered for opening the horizons of space to the Philippines.” – (STAMINA4Space)

After 4 years of being in space, Diwata-1, the Philippines’ first locally designed and developed microsatellite, fell back to earth on April 6.

It has exceeded everyone’s expectations as it stayed longer in service since it was launched to the International Space Station on March 26, 2016, and sent into orbit on April 27, 2016. Diwata-1 was meant to only last for 18 months in space.

Made by Filipino engineers through a satellite program in Japan, the microsatellite has been described to be just as big as a balikbayan box and weighed around 50 kilograms.

“We confirm that today, 6 April 2020 at 04:49 a.m. Philippine Standard Time (PST), Diwata-1 was at an altitude of approximately 114km based on telemetry data received from the satellite. This altitude is very close to the Karman line, or the widely accepted boundary between outer space and the Earth’s atmosphere. It is expected that beyond this altitude, the chances of successfully establishing contact with Diwata-1 are extremely low. This, therefore, marks the official end of the mission lifetime of Diwata-1,”

– DOST’s Philippine Microsatellite Program

Diwata-1’s instruments functions

  • Monitor weather
  • Acquire strategic intelligence on geography
  • Provide scientists with crucial data on the damages caused by typhoons, earthquakes, and other disasters
  • Allowed the government to make significantly better weather predictions

Satellite images are helpful in environment assessment, weather and resource monitoring, collecting data for scientific research and education, agriculture, climate, infrastructure and water resources.
