El Mar Resort & Spa: A New Premium Beach Destination in Sogod

Cebuano pawnshop tycoon, Michel J. Lhuillier, has made it one of his goals to further expand tourism opportunities in the northern towns of Sogod and Borbon. After the success of Cebu Safari & Adventure Park in Carmen, Señorito M. Lhuillier has now set his sights on making Sogod a tourist destination by attracting tourists to El Mar Resort & Spa.

El Mar Resort & Spa is sprawled across 89 hectares of land in a property owned by Lhuillier. The resort is composed of seven equally stunning coves with every beachfront covered in fine white sands. El Mar Beach Resort sets a striking balance between the sea and nature – two of the most abundant things in the island of Cebu. While the majority of the property is covered in the verdancy of the grass and trees, the beach is dominated by the pristine white sand.

Distanced from the stresses of the metro and isolated in a private property in Sogod, El Mar Resort & Spa offers the therapeutic getaway that Cebuanos and other guests need. Upon entry to the property, the first thing that guests will notice is the sheer amount of trees growing over a wide blanket of green and the freshness of the air as a result of it. From the entrance up to the main resort, the property is thriving with the various spawns of nature which is a truly refreshing sight to see.

At the main resort, guests will be mesmerized by the long stretch of white sand extending from both sides of the resort. The beach fronts are so expansive that despite there being seven coves, only a single beach is occupied by the guests.

Under the shade of coconut trees are lounge chairs facing the sea – the best place to immerse in the cool ocean breeze. Just opposite the beach and sitting atop a subtle incline are the rooms of the resort. Beside them is the open-air restaurant which serves hefty meals that are complimented by the relaxing seaside views.

The rooms and the receiving area are all decorated with a modern-style interior typical of any premium resort with the designs consisting of varnished wood and pastel hues. Guests will experience comfort, relaxation, and solace in their spacious rooms which are fully equipped with all the necessities. When not lazing around in the rooms, guests can satisfy their wanderlust by exploring the resort on bikes or e-scooters.

With 89 hectares of land, guests will have much to discover. Of course, no one should miss the chance to soak in the swimming pool or the turquoise waters just by the beachfront with different water activities such as kayaking and jet skiing to spice things up.

Mt. Uragay Spring Resort: Take a dip in Carmen’s Natural Spring Pools

Enjoy the naturally refreshing and naturally thirst-quenching waters of Mt. Uragay Spring Resort in Carmen, Cebu. The pristine waters of this refreshing spring is a great alternative to hot, open beaches. For those who prefer to cool off and are fine with not having a tan on their skin, then this spring resort is definitely for them.

The spring of Mt. Uragay Spring Resort used to be the water source of the bottled water company, Nature Spring, until they were able to find another source of their own. After the bottled water company left the spring, the spring was left with no use so some people took the initiative and turned it into a resort.

Just like how the bottled water refreshes the body, the 2 spring pools present in the resort also provide the same cool feeling to those who take a dip in it. The pools are covered by the canopies created by the branches of trees thriving within the vicinity so the heat of the sun rarely finds its way into the pools.

Due to the shade offered by the various flora, the pools stay cool and fresh all throughout the day so no matter what time the guests visit, the guests will be greeted by the same refreshing water. The resort is also located in the mountains so rest assured that the breeze blowing into the resort is pure and clean.

Photo from Rider’s TV Facebook Page

The water from the pools comes from a tubod or spring which is how the spring maintains its cool and refreshing temperature. Although small, the crystal clear pools are more than enough to entice visitors to stay and take a dip. Aside from swimming pools, there are also 15 cottages that could accommodate small to big groups.

For those who want to stay for a few days to bask in the natural atmosphere, there are 3 overnight rooms for the taking. Kiosks are also present in the resort and they sell snacks and refreshments but if guests are looking for heavy meals, then it would be recommended that they pack their own meals before travelling to the resort.

5 Well-Known Rehab Centers in Cebu

Life has its ups and downs, and many people have experienced a lot of those downs. For some, their life went downhill after suffering a heavy addiction to vices such as drugs, alcohol, and the likes.

In the 1980s, Switzerland experienced a rise to heroin use. However, instead of punishing these users by jail time, they gave proper treatment and care to them. This led to lower crime rates and higher employment rates.

Which is why rehabilitation centers are very important in our society. A famous example here in Cebu is Roberto Anova Plando, more commonly known as Berta. He was a street dweller who suffered in his drug addiction but was helped by a rehabilitation center and the people who cared for him. That is why we need to give recognition to the centers here in Cebu for their work in making people’s lives better.

1. Safehaven Addiction Treatment and Recovery Village

Safehaven Addiction Treatment and Recovery Village is the rehabilitation center that treated Berta to who he is now. Their center contains proper bedrooms, gym equipment, and even a pool. LIST: Suroy-Suroy Tour Packages for the Long Weekend (April 2-4)

Already more than a year in, all of us have probably hoped that this time, we would finally enjoy the summer compared last year’s, where going out was a big no-no as home quarantine was strictly implemented. But sadly, the situation is still relatively the same in the country, as Metro Manila and nearby areas are again imposed with ECQ. Luckily, here in Cebu, restrictions are a bit more lax.

Teofilo Camomot: The Cebuano Set to Become the Philippines’ 3rd Saint

0

The Philippines is a hugely catholic country. In fact, it is the only Christian nation in Asia, with more than 86 percent of the population being Roman Catholic; that is around 85 million Filipinos. The religion is deeply rooted into our culture and has been observed for generations. The church has played major roles in the formation of the country we know today.

Yet, despite all of that, there have been only two saints ever from the Philippines. The first one is Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, who was declared venerable in October 11, 1980, beatified in February 18, 1981, and canonized in October 18, 1987. The second one is Saint Pedro Calungsod, who was declared venerable in January 7, 2000, beatified in March 5, 2000, and canonized in October 21, 2012.

Now, there is a Cebuano priest who is set to become the third saint of the Philippines: Teofilo Camomot. He was born on March 3, 1914, in Barangay Cogon, Carcar, Cebu. As a child, he was known to be kind and caring because of his gentle and nurturing upbringing. After he graduated from elementary school, he decided to study to become an agriculturist and work on his father’s farm.

However, all of that changed as he later directed himself into joining the seminary in San Carlos in 1932. He became a priest on December 14, 1941, and was later on assigned to St. Teresa Parish in Talisay, Cebu in 1943. On March 25, 1955, he was appointed as the Titular Bishop of Clisma and the Auxiliary Bishop of Jaro, Iloilo.

According to one of his close friends, Msgr. Jose B. Buenaflor of La Paz, Iloilo, “he was a saintly man – devoted to prayer, to meditation, to conversion. [He was] a serious person, even while mingling with other priests… He was very charitable…Every time the poor went to him, he gave with all his heart…”

Now, he is up to becoming the third saint of the Philippines. Many testify to his spiritual gifts of healing, reading hearts, and even levitation and bilocation. There are people who have said to see him appear in two places at the same time. A Catholic organization known as the Daughters of Saint Teresa formally petitioned to beatify and canonize him and on October 15, 2010, Cardinal Vidal announced that the Holy See has approved the opening of the cause.
