Mactan-Cebu Airport welcomes Turkish Airlines’ Flight from Istanbul

On Tuesday, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) welcomed the arrival of Turkish Airlines’ first reciprocal flight to Cebu.

As part of its global expansion plans, Turkish Airlines introduced its thrice-weekly Istanbul-Manila-Cebu flights, connecting Cebu to more than 320 destinations in over 120 countries around the world.

“It has been a long time since we welcomed a new long-haul flight to Cebu because of the pandemic, and now we are starting the year with Turkish Airlines, which is MCIA’s first direct connection to Europe and strengthens our Middle Eastern connection even more. With this flight, we can help open more opportunities for the region, and enable it to accelerate recovery plans from Typhoon Odette and COVID-19,”

– GMR Megawide President Louie Ferrer

“This has been long in the making and we wish to extend our thanks to Turkish Airlines for believing in the Cebu connection, MCIAA, and our Commercial team at the airport for making this happen,” he continued

Turkish Airlines utilizes an Airbus A350-900 for the thrice-weekly service.

“Despite the recent turn of events in Cebu, the launch of Turkish Airlines brings us hope as we look forward to the future and fast track our recovery efforts. We know that the addition of the Istanbul route will open opportunities not just for Cebu, but for the entire country as well,”

– MCIAA General Manager and CEO Julius G. Neri, Jr.

Cebu’s pride: Get to know the man behind Bo’s Coffee

0

You are not a Cebuano or might as well be a Filipino if you’ve never seen a Bo’s Coffee shop somewhere in your life. Yes. That is how popular this coffeehouse chain is and the brain behind all this is a fellow Cebuano, Mr. Steve “Bo” Benitez.

Bo’s Coffee is the Philippines’ first and largest homegrown specialty coffee chain with a total of 91 outlets nationwide and the fact that it originated in Cebu just makes us so proud.

It was founded by Steve Benitez in June 1996 in Cebu City, Philippines where it is currently based too.

‘Bo’ Benitez

Steve is proudly Filipino, born and raised in “The Queen City of the South”, Cebu City, and he is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bo’s Coffee.

Educational attainments:

  • Earned AB Management Economics from Ateneo de Manila University
  • Completed an EO Entrepreneurial Masters Program (EMP) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Took up Executive Education programs in London Business School and Wharton School of Business
  • Has a cross-functional specialization (Economics, Marketing, Business Development, Law and Executive Development) with strong emphasis on Entrepreneurship

Barista over Barrister

Steve was in law school when he realized he favored caffeine above all else and so chose to be a barista over a barrister. He dropped out of law school and traveled to the United States to study the coffee industry.

By 1996 then, Steve opened his first coffee kiosk upon returning to Cebu and created a business that is locally rooted and internationally competitive.

Supporting local

Bo’s Coffee sources coffee beans locally from farmers in Sagada Mountain Province, Benguet, Mt. Kitanglad in Bukidnon, Mt. Matutum in Tupi, South Cotabato, and Mt. Apo.

These beans are handpicked and roasted by artisan roasters and transported fresh to branches around the country.

Hiring the right people

Steve believes in hiring the right and best people in their field of expertise in order to succeed in business.

“My goal is to surround myself with people so much better than me to create a culture of learning and mentoring from one another. By doing so, it is my commitment to the growth of each member in the organization individually and the company as a whole.”

Mr. Steve Benitez is truly a pride of Cebu and someone we can all look up to.

Official Sinulog 2022 Novena Mass Schedule and Where to watch

This year started to be very challenging among many Cebuanos due to the devastating wrath of Typhoon Odette last December 16 and now the rising cases of Omicron variant.

Despite these life challenges, our faith just grows stronger. That’s why there’s still no stopping Cebu from honoring its patron, Señor Sto. Niño or the Holy Child Jesus. Most events for this year will still be done virtually while the devotees are also encouraged to attend the Sinulog novena masses online.

More than the festive celebration in Cebu — from the most colorful parades to the grandest programs and competitions here and there, at the end of the day, Sinulog is a solemn and religious event celebrating the adoration of the city’s patron, Señor Sto. Niño or the Holy Child Jesus.

Why do we celebrate Sinulog?

The Sinulog Festival is a celebration in honor of Santo Niño (Child Jesus). The festival is done by a dance ritual, in which it tells the story of the Filipino people The word “Sinulog” means a graceful dance– a rhythmic and beautiful forward and backward motion that represents the “sulog” (or current).

The Sinulog Festival has been going around for almost four centuries now. Its rich history dates back to old and truly reflects the humble beginnings of Cebu and the birth and growth of Christianity in Cebu and the Philippines.

Twins born just 15 minutes apart, but in different years

0

Most unique twins yet — born just 15 minutes apart, but they have a different day, month, and year of birth.

While everyone else was out celebrating New Year’s Eve, Fatima Madrigal from California was giving birth to fraternal twins Aylin and Alfredo Trujillo. They were born only 15 minutes apart, but their birth was unusual since they were born on separate days, months, and years.

Alfredo Antonio Trujillo was the first to give birth on December 31, 2021, at 11:45 p.m. Aylin Yolanda Trujillo, his twin sister, was born at 12 a.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2022, making her the first infant born at Natividad Medical Center in Greenfield, California.

Aylin Trujillo weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces and her twin brother weighed in at 6 pounds, 1 ounce.

“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” their mother, Fatima Madrigal, said, according to the hospital. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”

The twins brought a lot of happiness and excitement to the hospital. According to the hospital, Dr. Ana Abril Arias, a family doctor at the Natividad Medical Group, said it was “certainly one of the most remarkable deliveries of my career.”

Two girls and a boy are the infants’ elder siblings. According to the hospital, Madrigal’s oldest son is ecstatic to have a brother, and the rest of their family is similarly ecstatic to meet the twins.

Baby Dinosaur perfectly preserved in its fossilized egg

0

Now, I know what you were thinking because I was thinking the same thing. A perfectly preserved dinosaur egg found? Might as well be the Jurassic Park story coming into real life.

But luckily or sadly, however you want, the baby dinosaur dubbed as Baby Yingliang is actually already a fossil and will not hatch. It was found in southern China by stone mining company Yingliang Group, which is where it got its name.

The egg was discovered in 2000, but they didn’t realize what’s inside until after 15 years when a few fragile bones were exposed by a crack in the egg’s surface.

It came from rocks estimated to be roughly 70 million years old and seemed almost ready to hatch with it being in its curled pre-hatching position but due to an unknown event buried the egg before it came out to the world.

The baby dino or embryo is a type of oviraptorosaur. They are a group of beaked therapod dinosaurs closely related to modern birds. They have lived about 130 million to 66 million years ago.

It is one of the most complete dinosaur embryos ever found and so perfectly preserved according to Darla Zelenitsky, a paleontologist specializing in dinosaur eggs.

It really is remarkable to see traces of creatures especially dinosaurs who have lived millions of years ago.
