Bea Gomez sports new short hairstyle, organizes relief effort in Cebu

0

The queen is back in the Queen City of the South and surprises us with her new look.

Fresh from her Top 5 win in the Miss Universe pageant, the Philippines’ bet Beatrice Luigi Gomez was seen in the airport last week with her new short hairstyle and she looks amazing.

On December 30, the beauty queen arrived in Cebu but instead of the traditional lavish homecoming, Beatrice chose to spend time with her family and then headed to the Naval Reserve Center in Cebu to assist with the relief effort for victims of Super Typhoon Odette.

Prior to her arrival in Cebu, the 26-year-old beauty queen collaborated with SimplyShare Foundation Inc. and the Naval Reserve Center Eastern Visayas to raise funds to respond to the calamity and “bring back hope and light to [her] fellow Sugboanons.”

There have been widespread flooding and destruction of roads, public structures like schools and markets, as well as livelihood assets and agricultural crops. Houses in coastal communities were flattened and power and communication lines were damaged.

– Beatrice Luigi Gomez on a Facebook post

Bea added that the children’s access to food, shelter, education, health services, water and sanitation, and hygiene, have been heavily impacted and are causing psychosocial distress to children and their caregivers. Many of them are already on the brink of hunger and at risk of getting sick from diseases and the COVID-19 virus.

Cebuana singer Sheryn Regis comes out as lesbian

Sheryn Regis has come out as a lesbian in her recent interview with Ogie Diaz on YouTube last December 26, 2021.

Sheryn, 42, rose to fame as a finalist alongside Erik Santos in the Search for the Star in a Million singing competition in 2003. She is a pop singer-songwriter and an entrepreneur that hails from our very own Carcar City here in Cebu.

She came out to the world as part of the LGBTQ+ community, but more importantly is that she came out to her ex-partner, Earl Echiverri (Tito Earl), and her daughter, Sweety, and was accepted whole-heartedly.

“Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Tito Earl, I am a lesbian. I’m living a lie. Not just to you, not just to the family, a lie sa sarili ko rin.”- Sheryn Regis

She said that she denied it and thought that maybe it was the reason for her depression and her thyroid cancer, life testing her so she felt the need to tell the truth abput her to her partner then.

Sheryn even says that she became selfish in a way as she was mother to Sweety but wasn’t a wife to Echiverri and had trouble accepting who she was.

Her and Echiverri she stills talks every day and have remain married, as appealed by their daughter saying that she doesn’t want them divorced and be a child without a mom and dad together. Her daughter also told her that she knew and it doesn’t make her mother less of a person.

Sheryn now has a girlfriend, the YouTuber Mel de Guia.

She has been the voice behind several teleserye theme songs since, including  This year, she released her first original song after a decade of being away from the Philippines.

“Hindi ko kayang iwan ka” and “Coming in out of the rain” were two of her most popular songs and of course she was the teleserye OST queen with “Gulong ng Palad” and “Maria Flordeluna.”

Now, she has an original song released titled “Tulad ng Dati”, which you might want to listen to.

Viral: Netizen shares DIY Wind Energy using a ceiling fan to power gadgets

Ingenuity comes from necessity.

It was proven again as Janine Jorolan Babor posted on Facebook their energy source using just a ceiling fan.

The super typhoon Odette left Cebu and other parts of Visayas and Mindanao with great damages that it has been more than a week with no electricity.

Well, this Cebuana shared a very useful power hack with those who don’t have a generator. You just need 3 things: wind, ceiling fan/electric fan, and an extension wire.

Steps:

  1. Place the ceiling fan or electric fan in front of strong winds.
  2. Plug it in your extension wire.
  3. Let it have its time with the wind.
  4. Then plug your charger to your extension wire and you can now charge your phone.
  5. The extension wire doesn’t need to be plugged anywhere.

Note: Use working ceiling fans and not damaged ones for it to work. Wind turbines use blades to collect the wind’s kinetic energy.

The people of Cebu have always been resilient. We hope that this will work for you and help you get through this crisis.

Guam offers 11,500 jobs specifically for Filipinos

Guam, an island territory of the U.S. in the Western Pacific, is a paradise known for its white-sand beaches and crystal-clear ocean waters and has been a tourist destination sought by families, honeymooners, and divers.

Filipinos brace yourselves as this island paradise might be your next working place as it offers 11,500 jobs specifically for Filipinos. Yes. It’s an employment just for Filipinos in the next decade.

Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Los Angeles announced during a virtual press briefing that in the next 10 years they will need around 11,500 workers or more. They already have 2,00-3,000 confirmed job orders though the deployment of these workers depends on the recruitment agency and the approval of their U.S Visa.

Why Filipinos?

The specific requirement was also explained as Filipino workers are considered and I quote “very hardworking at maparaan ang Pilipino kumpara sa ibang lahi” by Armi Evangel Peña, Labor Attaché of Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Los Angeles.

Workers needed:

  • Electricians and welders,
  • HVAC [heating, ventilation and air-conditioning] and refrigeration mechanics
  • Construction equipment mechanics
  • Plumbers and pipe fitters
  • Operating engineers or heavy equipment operators
  • Carpenters and structural steel workers
  • Reinforcing metal workers and mason
  • Camp cooks
  • All kinds of engineers

2023 is the year to be waiting for as the bulk of hiring is here with Guam hiring 6,500 employees as explained by Guam Department of Labor’s David Bersolia, Peña.

Working in Guam might be the luck you are waiting for and the beautiful island as a working place won’t hurt at all.

Make sure to check the official POEA website for the job opening updates.

Qualified government employees will have another reason to rejoice this holiday season, as a new administrative order (AO) signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte will provide them with a one-time service recognition incentive (SRI) worth PHP10,000.

AO No. 45, which was signed by Duterte on December 24, follows the execution of Joint Resolution 4, which was signed on June 17, 2009, and enables the grant of incentives to honor an employee’s devotion to government service and contributions to the agency’s continued viability.

AO No. 45 further emphasizes the importance of providing fair incentives and assistance to government employees who are affected not just by the epidemic but also by numerous natural disasters.

Civilian employees in national government agencies (NGAs), including those at state universities and colleges (SUCs) and government-owned or controlled businesses (GOCCs), will be eligible for the incentive under the AO, whether they are employed on a regular, contractual, or casual basis.

Uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology under the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Bureau of Corrections under the Department of Justice, the Philippine Coast Guard under the Department of Transportation, and the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority under the Department of Transportation.

VECO targets full power restoration in Cebu by January 31

0

The beautiful city lights of all of Metro Cebu will once again dazzle and shine by the end of January 2022.

Yes, our suffering from the lack of electricity will finally come to an end a month and a half after the devastation that is the super typhoon, Odette.

The Visayan Electric Co. said on December 26 that they would complete the rehabilitation of the electric line in San Fernando, Naga City, Minglanilla, Talisay City, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Consolacion, and Liloan before February.

With a total of 474,182 consumers, Visayan Electric presently has reenergized at least 15.8 percent or 74,920 of the consumers.

Most of these are hospitals, water pumps of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), government buildings, and essential establishments which were the priority in reenergizing.

Prediction:

  • December 31, 2021:
    • Expect to power 30 percent of their franchise
    • Reenergize all our hospitals and water pumps
    • 80 percent reenergization of each of MCWD and Abejo Water
  • January 10, 2022: Expect to power 80 percent of their franchise
  • January 31, 2022: Expect full power back

Reenergization summary as of December 26:

  • 19 out of 31 hospitals in its franchise area
  • 43 out of 116 MCWD pumps
  • 8 out of 31 Abejo Water Pumps

VECO crew deployed every Cebu LGU

  • Cebu City- 12 crew, 60 linemen
  • Liloan- 5 crew, 25 linemen
  • Consolacion- 1 crew, 5 linemen
  • Mandaue City- 7 crew, 35 linemen
  • Talisay City- 6 crew, 30 linemen
  • Minglanilla- 1 crew, 5 linemen
  • Naga City- 5 crew, 25 linemen
  • San Fernando- 1 crew, 5 linemen

Note: The number of linemen or crews depends on the severity of damage in those areas.

Only the substation in Ayala area in Cebu City has not been restored yet because of the extent of the damage.

Visayan Electric is now producing 58.49 megawatts out of its 365 megawatts maximum energy demand.

In order to hasten the restoration progress, Lucero appealed to LGUs to clear the roads and collect the garbage so the crew linemen can easily pass through the roads.

“Clear the roads, remove fallen trees and avoid dumping garbage on the streets,” said Lucero.

It was a challenge for Visayan Electric as well as the employees are victims too along with the fuel challenge, the extent of damages, and clearing of the roads. They are doing their best to hasten the process and appeal to the LGU’s in the clearing of the streets for better access and faster work.
