The Municipality of Bantayan Island in northern Cebu recently launched the ‘sea ambulances’ donated by the Department of Health (DOH) in response to transport patients who require urgent emergency situations.

A sea ambulance is a boat equipped with basic life support equipment such as oxygen, a resuscitator, a defibrillator, and immobilization devices so that those who have suffered significant injuries can be stabilized and brought faster to a hospital.

The arrival of the medical units is good news for patients who needed to be transported to major tertiary hospitals in Cebu City and Mandaue City.

The average salary of an NBA floor cleaner in the United States (US) this 2022 is $80,000 per year.
Yes. You didn’t read it wrong. A mop boy in the National Basketball Association (NBA) is earning an average of about P4,115,200 per year. Now if that won’t let you want to mop floors, I don’t know what will.

They can even get paid at most $100,000 that is more than P5 million. It all depends on the years of experience with the lowest of less than two years which is $39,000 (P2M+) per year, more than that is $80,000 (P4M+) per year and if you have more than 5 years under your belt, you would earn $95,000 (P4.8M+) per year.

Now what does this job entails?
A mop boy, sweeper and floor cleaner’s main job are to keep the court clean.
They also must keep the basketball court dry from sweat and water at all times.
Constant mopping of floors as players run around and dive.
Help in setting up the benches.
Loading and unloading gears may also be part of the work.
Now to be hired as an NBA floor cleaner is much more careful than we think it is. It’s not just showing up but it is essential that you have the required set of skills, experience, and education.

Each team has different methods in hiring but one thing is for sure that would help is make an impression.
If you’re interested in working here though, you can visit NBA.com and look for their vacancies or go to indeed.com and LinkedIn as well.

We might be surprised and in awe of the salary but it is a physically demanding job as well. Though for us Filipinos it is already very big considering how the most hardworking people in this country don’t earn that much.

Raising a kid is surely hard enough but raising them with no partner is a struggle indeed.
Being a single mom did not deter Wendee Arriesgado from Cebu to provide a beautiful home to her three children though.
Photo from Wendee Arriesgado
With an estimated total expense of P700,000, she built her two-story dream house. What’s pretty impressive about this is that she built this from her own salary savings and not a loan.
Wendee shared that the budget and discipline she practiced to get there were tough.
She was living with her three kids in Cebu City before but soon realized that the living arrangement in a city won’t work for her family. There were rents and amortization to think about every month and as a lone breadwinner, living in the city proved to be too hard.
In 2019, Wendee decided to live someplace in the province where she can build a house and call it their own. They chose Daanbantayan, Cebu, to settle down as she also wants to be near the sea.
Photo from Wendee Arriesgado
Her initial fund was just P200,000 when the construction for their house started. It was late in 2020 when she shared that she worked harder than ever and hustled as much as possible with side projects and overtime.
Wendee was also lucky and wise to find a supplier of construction materials who agreed to a flexible payment scheme (every 15th of the month).
Her advice is to make good of your word. If you say you’ll pay, you pay. That is a mindset everyone who has debts must have right?
Photo from Wendee Arriesgado
To everyone who is planning to build their own homes, Wendee reminds you to have a concrete plan, monitor finances, and a thrifty lifestyle.
“You have to really discipline yourself, and you have to make it happen, and you have to focus if you want to have that future, na wala kang babayaran, if you want that house built.”
It pays off to be thrifty and careful in your finances indeed especially if you have a dream, you’d want to come true.

Cordova is rising economically and literally as another advantageous project will rise.
A P12-billion reclamation project in Cordova Cebu will soon make it possible for this progressing town to become an economic powerhouse. It is said that it will bring forth an economic boom not only for Cordova but for the entire province of Cebu.

Governor Gwen Garcia and the Cordova Shores Development Corporation signed a joint venture agreement last February 4 for the reclamation project.
The groundbreaking and time capsule-laying ceremony of the 254-hectare mixed-use commercial and recreational hub was also led by Governor Garcia along with other government officials and development contractors.
“With this symbolic ground-filling and capsule-laying ceremony, we have manifested visibly to the world that soon, heretofore, visible and invisible reality will start to unfold and become finally the realization of a dream that has been held by so many, for so long.”
Gov. Gwen Garcia

The town of Cordova also has the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway project underway, an 8.9-kilometer toll bridge that would pave the way to so much economic activity coming for Cordova.
With this, the Cordova Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho stated that the reclamation project or hub will be able to complement the upcoming operation of the bridge which is anytime this year.
Cordova has Mayor Cho’s late father, Presidential Legislative Liaison Office Secretary Adelino Sitoy, to thank as he was the one who expedite the deal for the reclamation project. After that it was endorsed by the provincial government’s Economic Enterprise Council and the Provincial Board and later approve by Gov. Garcia.

No doubt Cebu City is tenfold more beautiful without the unsightly spaghetti wires.
With hopes to inspire local officials, Dimple Navarroza edited photos of Cebu City streets virtually snapped from Google Earth to see how the city would look without the overhead wires.

It’s worth noting there are areas and business districts in Cebu City where cables were placed underground, such as the city roads along Capitol to the Fuente Osmeña Circle, Cebu Business Park, and Cebu IT Park.
As early as 2001, Cebu City already sought to remove unsightly wires running along city roads through Cebu City Ordinance 1894 which was approved on April 25, 2001. It was in 2015 when electric company VECO started the first phase of the Underground Distribution System (UDS).
However, as of this writing, the program seems to be on a halt, especially after Typhoon Odette hit the island last December 16, 201. Hopefully, the newly elected mayor in 2022 can prioritize this project again soon?
