It provides a feast for the eyes with its beautiful natural sceneries, and a surprise for one’s palate as it houses the Best Manok Bisaya on the island served since 1988 at Balamban’s Best Restaurant at Nang Linda’s Kan-Anan!

Nang Linda’s Best Sellers

Nang Linda’s Kan-Anan (a local term for restaurant) offers dine-in, take-out, and delivery services to its customers and diners. At the restaurant’s storefront, customers can find “luto daan” (already cooked) meals that can be brought home or enjoyed in the neo-modern al-fresco restaurant inspired by the local architectures of western Cebu.

If you’re curious as to what to order from their menu, here are the best sellers and usual orders from Nang Linda’s “suki” or frequent diners and customers.

Manok Bisaya Espesyal

Made with native chicken sourced from local growers for a healthier and richer meal, the Manok Bisaya Espesyal is a whole roasted chicken prepared the Nang Linda’s way. Each slice ensures a juicy, tender, and flavorful meat that everyone will surely enjoy.

Manok Bisaya is a great dish to order as it is known to be the healthiest chicken that we can consume. It is believed to be good for your eyesight and heart, prevents bone loss, builds muscles, lowers stress levels, improves weight loss, and strengthens your immune system.

Manok Bisaya Tinowa

Manok Bisaya Tinowa is a traditional soup that uses native chicken as the base of the dish’s soup and at the same time the main item on the dish. It is usually prepared with ginger, sayote, and malunggay to add to the richness and flavor of the broth.

Nang Linda’s Kan-Anan uniquely uses native chicken infused with the freshest herbs and spices. It is 100% organic without the use of MSGs which provides a richer and fulfilling taste for older and careful diners.

Balamban Liempo

Nang Linda’s Kan-Anan also offers every Filipino’s favorite dish, Liempo. A type of pork barbecue that is marinated in soy sauce, banana sauce, black pepper, and lemon overnight. It’s also cooked carefully and meticulously so that it becomes tender and easy to chew on for the entire family!

Pork Sisig

Nang Linda also offers everyone’s favorite Pork Sisig. It is made from minced pork meat, ears, and face that is also added with onions, chili peppers, and an egg in the center. This delectable dish can either be your appetizer or a main course to pair with a hot cup of rice.

Humba Espesyal

Lastly, Nang Linda’s Humba Espesyal is a family heirloom recipe and a staple favorite that the founder’s family always keeps for later and special guests. Nang Linda’s Humba Espesyal offers a delicious meal that isn’t greasy to eat but tender, sweet, and savory which is perfect for all ages.

Bahay Kubo Al Fresco Dining

DOH-7 FULL REPORT (CENTRAL VISAYAS):

Fully Vaxxed students only on soon Face to Face classes says CHED

Fully vaccinated college and university students only. This is what the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) have emphasized on the soon to come limited face-to-face classes.

This stressed fact was given by CHED Executive Director Cinderella Benitez-Jaro in a press briefing last Wednesday, December 1.

The limited in-person classes (face to face) have been made possible after the Inter-Agency Task Force approved the  proposed phased implementation of the program in the tertiary level of education that are in places under Alert Levels 1, 2, and 3.

Flexible learning system for Unvaxxed

Although the rate of vaccinated students is rising day by day with a current record of 45.91% of the 4,007,795 college students, there are still those that haven’t had their jab or are still hesitant to get the vaccine.

Now these Unvaccinated students will not be able to do the face-to-face classes and instead have their own remote learning and participate through a flexible learning system.

Photo from UNICEF

When they say “Flexible learning” it means a combination of digital and non-digital technology, in which the CHED says that this type of learning doesn’t necessarily require being connected to the internet.

For those unvaccinated or students who can’t participate in limited face-to-face classes, they shall continue to be governed by our guidelines on flexible learning—online and offline modes, Cinderella Benitez-Jaro, CHED Executive Director

Fully vaxxed School Personnel

There is no excused or exempted. All Teaching and Non-Teaching personnel in the school that would be participating the in-person classes should be fully vaccinated.

The vaccination rates for faculty also continues to increase along with its students at 82.45% of the 290,380 personnel of higher education institutions As of November 25 of this year.

Aside from the vaccinations, every school should be covid-19 ready; retrofitting facilities to adhere to the minimum public health standards.

Student athlete from different colleges and universities in Metro Manila, receive their first jab of COVID19 vaccine at the Commission on Higher Education main office in CP Garcia, Quezon CIty, October 20 2021. This is part of the “PADYAK! Para sa Flexible Learning: Sama-samang Vaccination” program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) that aims to vaccinate college students. Photo by Rappler

Phases of limited face-to-face classes

Phase 1: Only universities and colleges in regions under Alert Level 2 may apply for authorization. Start of limited face-to-face classes will be in December.

Phase 2: The schools are required to retrofit facilities and comply with minimum public health standards. Under Alert Level 3, these schools may start in-person classes in January 2022.

Now here’s a question for you. Are you in favor of this decision or do you think it’s too much of a separation on the vaxxed and unvaxxed?

5 Most Delicious Buwad (Dried Fish) found in Cebu

0

With a rich marine life, Cebu has an array of assorted buwad and seafood that everyone just loves and envies.

Photo from @karmiya_eatravels Instagram

We are a lucky bunch as our seas are abundant and it shows with our collection of buwads available in our dry markets.

Now to those who are not yet familiar with the most delicious ones you can find; we’ve made a list just for you.

Danggit

Describes as mouth-watering and irresistible. This boneless dried fish is the start of all stars as it is abundant and eaten as snacks, breakfast or any dine time you want.

The danggit fish is split open, cleaned, salted, and dried under the sun.

Best eaten when freshly fried, paired with hot rice and dipped into spicy vinegar. Crispy and tasty with every bite.

Fish Tapa & Fish Bones

The fish tapa is a specialty in itself as this buwad taste salty and sweet at the same time.

It is made from the meat of the fish Subagyo or also called filefish. They are fillet and then shaped into rounds to make a tasty treat.

This process leaves no waste as their bones are not thrown but are made into these crispy dried fish bones and are sold separately.

Pinakas

Pinakas from the word itself meaning “cut into two”. These are fishes sliced in half so that it resembles kind of a butterfly the same way danggit is. The only difference is the bones of the fish stay on the other side.

The fishes used in pinakas have more meat to it like guma-a, lison, bangus, and almost all kinds of fish.

It is a famous buwad especially for dinner with it having just the right amount of salt in its meat to keep the rice coming.

Dried Pusit/Squid

This one is famous as almost everyone has this as a favorite. As everyone should, with its chewy meat and distinct squid flavor, every part of the dried squid is edible.

Now, it is also very pricey among the buwads but so worth it. You can keep it in your fridge and just take it out whenever you crave it.

Bulinaw /Lopuy

It has many names including dilis in Luzon and if you really want to in English it’s known as “anchovy”.

They are green fishes with blue reflections and small in size with it being 2-40 cm in length. This one is cooked either as a torta or sweet and spicy ginisa which trust me is the best way to cook it.

They are fishes that are very small in size like baby fishes. They are affordable and easy to find.

WHERE TO BUY BUWAD IN CEBU?

2 billion doses of AstraZeneca vaccines supplied across the world in less than 12 months

0

AstraZeneca and its partners have released more than two billion doses of their COVID-19 vaccine to more than 170 countries across every continent on the planet in the last 11 months.

Approximately two-thirds of these have gone to low- and lower-middle-income countries, including more than 175 million doses delivered to 130 countries through the COVAX Facility. In the Philippines, we received a total of more than 25 million doses to date from the tripartite agreement, donations, and through the COVAX facility. We are expecting more AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines this December reaching ~80% of committed doses from the multilateral partnerships.

This milestone comes just over 18 months after AstraZeneca and Oxford University formed their landmark partnership for the global development and distribution of a not-for-profit COVID-19 vaccine for the world and less than 12 months after its first emergency authorization in the UK.

“Our vaccine has played a key role in tackling the biggest public health emergency of our lifetime: an estimated million lives saved, 50 million infections prevented, two billion doses delivered. The numbers are remarkable, and I’d like to thank everyone who put their lives to one side to help in this incredible endeavor. While much of the world still has to be vaccinated, and there is still much more to do, today is a proud day and testament to what can be achieved when we all work together.”

– Pascal Soriot, Chief Executive Officer, AstraZeneca
Pascal Soriot, Chief Executive Officer, AstraZeneca

“This is a proud moment and tribute to the efforts of researchers who developed and tested the vaccine, manufacturing staff who continue to work tirelessly to make it, logistics teams who ship it to clinics in every corner of the earth, armies of vaccinators who get it in our arms, and the public who have been with us since the first clinical trial dose on 23rd April 2020.”

– Professor Sir Andrew J Pollard, Director of Oxford Vaccine Group

To date, COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca (ChAdOx1-S [Recombinant]) is estimated to have helped prevent 50 million COVID-19 cases, five million hospitalizations, and helped save more than one million lives. From the body of evidence in clinical trials and real-world data, the vaccine has been shown to have an acceptable safety profile.

AstraZeneca continues to engage with governments, multilateral organizations, and collaborators to ensure broad and equitable access to the vaccine.
