Canada needs 1 million workers over next 5 years with Filipinos having the advantage

It seems like everyone want to move to Canada.

The health benefits and the quality of life there are sure advantageous and the country is very friendly to the Filipino immigrants and employees as well.

Your dreams of working to Canada will sooner be realized than you think because they just announce that they need about a million workers in the next five years.

This is to compensate a serious labor shortage as birth rates have fallen in Canada with people being careful and smart in their family planning. More Canadian youth are also moving to big cities for high-paying jobs in the financial, communication and service. Skilled manpower for other sectors in the economy has decreased in the last decades as well.

Filipinos and Canadian have a well-maintained relationship already with Philippines having entered into bilateral labor agreements with the various provinces of Canada like Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. They have thousands of overseas Filipino workers who have settled there since 2004.

Our workers here will soon get the go sign as several provinces in Canada have been given permission by Ottawa to hire temporary foreign workers until 2024. Us Filipinos though have a unique advantage from others as we have great English-speaking skills and are considered an English-speaking country.

It should be noted though to be wary of direct hiring of some immigration consultancies and bloggers posting hundreds of jobs in Canada.

There are several licensed recruitment agencies for thousands of jobs available in Canada accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).  Keep in mind that under the recruitment of these agencies, a placement fee is not allowed.

Well, it seems like we have another ID to think of renewing as the Philippine government is eyeing to put an expiration date on COVID-19 vaccination cards now.

This action seems to address the problem of Filipinos stopping at just the 2nd dose and not having the booster shots.

In short, it is an action to encourage more people to get their booster shot.

“Well, isa po iyan sa pinag-uusapan namin ngayon, iyong, again, inuulit ko, iyong mga istratehiya on the policy side para iyong tao ay ma-force ‘no na magpabakuna or magpa-boosters,”

He further stated that it is already a possibility that 6 months after your 2nd dose and you still haven’t had your booster shot, said vaccination card is already expired or will automatically expire.

As of April 3 in the government data:

  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-1966,125,962 individuals
  • Received their booster doses- at least 12,154,567 individuals

Densing also said that this number of boosters though are mostly from the National Capital Region and that most people of the South still need convincing. People from places like Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and some provinces.

There is also a worry within the government with 27 million COVID-19 vaccines procured by the national government and the private sector are set to expire in July as stated by Presidential adviser for entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion on Monday, April 4.

We once sough after these vaccines as we had limited supply before but now we have plenty and  we have  to make use of them as much as possible for us to have a chance of beating this pandemic.

On Monday evening, the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) released its official, consolidated data of the COVID-19 cases in the region as of April 11, 2022.

The whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cebu Province — recorded 8 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 25 new recoveries, and 0 new deaths. Cebu’s total active cases declined to 740 (from 754).

– Total confirmed: 53,864 (+3 new)
– Total recoveries: 51,724 (+15 new)
– Total deaths: 1,693 (+0 new)
– Active cases: 447

Lapu-Lapu City
– Total confirmed: 17,052 (+2 new)
– Total recoveries: 16,516 (+4 new)
– Total deaths: 513 (+0 new)
– Active cases: 23

Mandaue City
– Total confirmed: 15,428 (+1 new)
– Total recoveries: 14,910 (+1 new)
– Total deaths: 498 (+0 new)

With this in mind, the Commission on Elections said on April 4 that they would push lawmakers to pass a law that could disqualify candidates who refuse to participate in the debates organized by the poll body.

There are a series of debates organized by Comelec as part of its voter information campaign for the May 2022 elections and some candidates have declined to attend saying that they would rather continue with their face-to-face mode of campaigning and saying to leave it to the voters to decide.

There is still no law mandating candidates to join these election debates and so the Comelec has no authority to impose stiffer penalties for non-participation in the forums. The only thing they can do is disallowing debate absentees to air their e-rallies on the poll body’s official social media channels.

Comelec will try to convince the congress to put attending debates they organized as a requirement for all candidates local or national. And if it is not possible for it to be grounds for disqualification then they hope that at least it will be a ground for election offense.

They poll body is hoping that it would be mandatory in the next coming elections. It surely would put some power to the poll body on the candidates if not for this year’s elections, then in the future ones.

Cebuano security guard who graduated Cum Laude is now a teacher

Remember the security guard from Cebu who went viral after graduating cum laude?

Erwin Macua served as a security guard for almost 20 years at St. Theresa’s College (STC). During his later years serving the school, he pursued a Bachelor of Elementary Education, Major in General Education, in the same school.

From Trinidad, Bohol, the 38-year-old juggled being a security guard, studying, and raising three children. Years later, he did not only finish his college degree, but he also graduated cum laude from the same school he worked for many years.

Erwin’s story went viral in 2017 and inspired a lot of people, who were relieved to realize that it is possible to achieve your goals even if you are years behind schedule. In fact, he was featured in various shows on national TV and even got his own TV commercial with Nescafe coffee.

However, many people are asking where SG Macua is now. This inspirational man is now known as Sir Macua from the same school where he studied and used to work as a security guard.

Sir Macua now teaches Grade 2 pupils at the school where he used to be a security guard “Araling Panlipunan” and “Work Education” (previously known as Home Economics and Livelihood Education). He also shared he didn’t feel discriminated against by his peers or professors at the time. This motivated him to strive even harder to achieve his goals.

It wasn’t only about him achieving his personal goal; it was also about providing a better life for his family. In March 2017, he graduated with honors from his Education program, and in November 2017, he passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).

Many of his students and parents are aware that he was once their school’s security guard. But he isn’t ashamed to tell them that.

UC School of Law’s Stetson Mooting Team emerged as Champion, and 3L student Golda Marie Lim won the Best Oralist award, in the 26th Annual Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition International Finals which culminated today in Gulfport, Florida, USA.

Reality: Farmers work hard to plant and care until the harvest so we can something to buy and eat, yet they earn so little from all these. Farming is such a noble job and livelihood which is why we should always show the importance and our high respect to the farmers.

A graduate of Tourism Management at Cebu Normal University, Jetro Secretaria experienced belittlement and judgment from others for the kind of work he chose to do as he did not choose the career path based on his college course and is now “just farming and planting various vegetables.”

Jetro thought that a fresh-graduate employee can earn about 10K-15K per month, but in his chosen farm job, contrary to what others think, he earns about P150K-200K in just that. of a month.

According to Jetro, he has no problem being an employee and if you are good and lucky in the job you entered, just be thankful.

He also shared that his parents are also proud farmers and because of farming, he and his sibling graduated from college.
