Cebu logs 9 new cases on April 19

On Tuesday evening, the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) released its official, consolidated data of the COVID-19 cases in the region as of April 19, 2022.

The whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cebu Province — recorded 9 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 8 new recoveries, and 4 new deaths. Cebu’s total active cases slightly increased to 663 (from 662).

– Total confirmed: 53,884 (+5 new)
– Total recoveries: 51,730 (+3 new)
– Total deaths: 1,698 (+0 new)
– Active cases: 456

Lapu-Lapu City
– Total confirmed: 17,057 (+2 new)
– Total recoveries: 16,528 (+2 new)
– Total deaths: 518 (+0 new)
– Active cases: 9

Mandaue City
– Total confirmed: 15,431 (+0 new)
– Total recoveries: 14,915 (+0 new)

BY PUJ: Starting from Colon, you can ride a 13C jeepney or bus and make your way to Country Mall. The Streetscape Mall is across the road leading to the AS Fortuna Street. Ask the driver to drop you off at Banilad Town Center. If they cannot do that, just drop at the Country Mall jeepney stops. From there, walk your way to the Streetscape Mall. Rely on Google Maps to be more accurate. The café is located at the ground floor.

Not only are we actually saving pesos, but we are also helping in saving Mother Earth.

A lot of us have not realized that recycling is much more than plastic or paper, it also comprises textiles. The moment you have chosen to either donate or thrift shop, you are keeping these clothes out of the landfills. The moment you have chosen to throw your unused clothes in the bin, these sit in the landfill for hundreds of years.

Japan to hire 4x more Foreign Workers by 2040

If you’re looking for employment opportunities outside the Philippines then you might set your sights on Japan.

Recently, a group of Tokyo-based public think tanks said on February 3 that the “land of the rising sun” needs four times its population of foreign workers by the year 2040. This is if the country wants to maintain its growth.

We all know that Japan is already experiencing a reduction in birthrate leading to the decline in its population since 2008.

With the decrease in population comes labor shortage which is why the country needs to have immigrants even though their government has always been hesitant about easing Japan immigration policies.

The announcement of the group which includes the research arm of the Japan International Cooperation Agency contained the following data:

  •  Japan needs to have 6.74 million foreign workers by 2040 to sustain its average annual economic growth of 1.24%.
  • Its current number of foreign workers is 1.72 million
  • Projection that Japan would lose more than 10% of its local workforce in the next 20 years

Last November 2021, the country’s justice ministry official already announced that they will allow foreigners in professional jobs to stay in the country indefinitely starting 2022 so you have greater chance of a successful opportunity in Japan.

Currently most of Japan’s foreign workers come from Vietnam and China but with these changes in tone, it is expected that the number of immigrants from neighboring countries such as Philippines, Cambodia and Myanmar will also surge in the next couple of decades.

Slater dropping a trivia about the P30-Billion CCLEX makes netizens adore him even more

For those who have been consistently following Slater Young on his YouTube channel, topics on engineering, construction, design and even trivia on these topics are commonplace. However, Slater caused a stir on social media recently because of his vlog where he dropped a trivia about the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), an 8.9-kilometer bridge that will link Cebu City to the municipality of Cordova.

The CCLEX has been the subject of fanfare mainly due to the fact that it will officially become the Philippines’ longest bridge when it opens to the public this month.

Opening to the public this month, the CCLEX has been highly anticipated and consistently made buzzes in social media as it will officially become the Philippines’ longest bridge. Secretary Mark Villar of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) also took to the social media saying that the current administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program made the engineering feat possible – a misconception that Slater debunked in his video.

“A lot of people think that this is a government-built bridge, but this is actually built by Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation… so this is owned by a private company, and is built to last 100 years,”

THE CEBU-BASED ENGINEER AND CONTENT CREATOR EXPLAINED IN THE VIDEO’S 6:09 MARK.

Hazel Ann Cesa posted this remark from Slater Young, which eventually caught the attention of most netizens and ended up watching the entire vlog. “Slater Young is really out here using his influence to fight misinformation (and) stop the spread of fake news. RESPECT,” she captioned, the post pertaining Slater’s vlog.

Cesa would then go on to mention that the project is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), a joint venture agreement. But while the CCLEX was developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), where the bridge stands as a “property” of the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation, which is the private company Slater noted in his vlog.

It was also noted on her post that project was proposed way back in 2014 under a joint agreement and Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) Project with the local governments of Cebu City and the municipality of Cordova. This was two years before Duterte was elected as the president of the country in 2016, and three years before the current admin’s “Build, Build, Build” program was launched in April 2017.

In his vlog, Slater would go on to say that the “beautifully built bridge” as that a bridge of this scale existed on their home island, which is Cebu. He also added that the engineering feat made him even prouder as a Cebuano, also with the other Cebuanos who worked on the project until its eventual completion.

For those who don’t know, Slater Young is a former Pinoy Big Brother PBB housemate where he eventually won as the season’s Big Winner back in 2012. Young would now focus on creating YouTube content, putting his engineering background to good use by giving advice, tips, trivia and ideas anything about construction.
