This includes places where you can take a peek at its tragic yet captivating history through the artworks that reflect it.

Want to dive deep into the Philippines’ art scene? Here are ten of the most famous Filipino paintings and where you can visit them:

1. Spoliarium

Considered the largest painting in the Philippines, “Spoliarium” is among the notable art pieces of Filipino painter Juan Luna. It features the bloody gladiator matches of Romans but is also an allegory to the despair and abuses Filipinos suffered from during the Spanish reign in the country.

The artwork currently stands tall at the center of the main gallery of the National Museum of Fine Arts at 4.22 meters x 7.675 meters in dimensions.

Meet Paul Pablo: Davao’s Rising Electro-Pop Star

Hailing from Davao City, 22-year-old Paul Pablo is one of the leading artists in the region with hits like “Bangin”, “Bai”, “Kalawakan”.

Signed under top music label Warner Music Philippines (WMP) and managed by Bigseed X Music, Paul Pablo describes his music as a combination of hugot lyrics in the rhythm of electro-pop music, coining the term “hugot-tronic”.

With his latest single “Di Inakala”, Paul Pablo explores a story about love. To cap his time off here in Cebu, Paul Pablos had a FABLOS night last June 3, 2022 at Asmara with fellow artists, creators and friends from the media. When asked about his source of motivation, Paul answered:

“My family. They’ve become a big part of my music journey as my father is also a music lover. My mother is also a singer, she was the one who taught me how to sing and my brother listens to all types of genres. My brother is actually the one who taught me to explore different genres of music.”

Seemingly evident in his music videos and musical style, Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga are just some of Paul’s early musical influences. But as a kid, Paul’s family’s good taste in music is one big attributing factor to how he writes his own music now.

“My family always taught and influenced me when it comes to their taste in music until I discovered my own taste in music.”

This brilliant young artist is  a full-time musician and a degree holder in AB Communications from Ateneo de Davao University.

He also reminisced about moments during his earlier school days, where one particular event sparked his desire to pursue his passion for music and fashion.

“I joined songwriting competitions at school. The first band that said my songwriting skills were good was Hale. They were one of the judges during that competition. I took it as a sign that “I’ve got it” in me to pursue my passion in music”

Love, societal issues, and identity are just some of the topics found in Paul Pablo’s work as a musician. With an emphasis on the latter, which is identity, Paul Pablo is an openly proud gay artist. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Paul Pablo wants to raise more awareness with regards to the community’s rights and to never stop pursuing their dreams.

With the emergence of a new generation of artists like Paul Pablo and in celebration with Pride month this June, I got to ask him one question that would resonate for today’s members of the LGBTQIA community:

Q:In celebration with Pride month this June, what is your message to those aspiring musicians who are also members of the LGBTQIA+ community?”

Paul: “Never be afraid to start your journey. Be brave enough to just do your own thing. It’s very important that you get to enjoy who you are, regardless of your gender preferences, while you’re working to achieve your dreams. You only live once so you better live it right.”

TV appearances of Paul Pablo include guestings in Eat Bulaga, It’s Showtime and iWant ASAP Live. Paul Pablo has also appeared in online shows including in Yes the Best Manila, Retriever Tambayan, Paraisla, Mellow 94.7, CHUO 89.1 and several Kumu guestings.

Paul Pablo has also guested on the popular Wish 107.5 Bus, where he performed his song “Kaya”. As of this writing, the video has 26k views. Additionally, Paul has appeared in MYX Global’s guestings including the Myx Awards Performance, Myx Spotlight, Myx Global Live and Myxclusive.

During the discussion with other media people, Paul Pablo noted that the advent of the internet helped him jumpstart his career. Paul Pablo’s socials include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Kumu and Tiktok. His music can be streamed via YouTube and Spotify, with the latter having 99k monthly listeners.

Paul Pablo plans to release a full-length album soon, but for now, YouTube and Spotify are just some of the venues where you can catch glimpses of his musical brilliance.

Master plans for Bantayan and Camotes to promote and improve tourism set for rollout

It is no secret that Bantayan and Camotes islands are Cebu’s premier tourist destinations.

Bantayan Island | Photo from Unsplash

With the joint cooperation of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas, development plans for the both islands are set to roll out.

OVAP Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino mentioned that the master plans will be made in two years. The development plans for the islands are also the target legacies of the Duterte administration, with the current admin’s term ending in June this year.

“OPAV initiated this project and we are grateful to Tieza for heeding our call and coming into the picture to fund the creation of these Tourism Development Plans,”

DINO SAID.

Secretary Dino also mentioned that the tourism industry in Cebu is also one of the most crucial industries and further development of Bantayan and Camotes will be good for the province. He also mentioned that the admin doesn’t want for these premier tourist hubs to experience the same fate Boracay Island experienced, which closed for a time for rehabilitation.

“Tourism is crucial for Cebu. It’s one of the primary economic drivers here. So, having these well-researched and well-documented plans will greatly help us further develop the tourism potential of Bantayan and Camotes Islands,”

HE ADDED.
Bantayan Island | Photo from Unsplash

Development plans for Bantayan and Camotes

The mentioned comprehensive plans will be all about various conceptual development plans for both islands. The master plans also strictly mandate the proposed 25m + 5m no-build zone for Bantayan and Camotes similar to the recently enforced easement for Boracay Island. These easements will serve as the salvage zones while the 5m will serve as the main pathway for the whole stretch of the beach area.

The master plan proposed for Bantayan included the limitation of the cliffside lots to one hectare only. This is to minimize the density of developments. With a 30-meter easement from the edge of the cliff, extra space for a public open space is possible.

Such space will consist of connecting walkways, movable retail kiosks, view decks, landscape areas, activity areas, and an opportunity for cliff diving sites. Lastly, an architectural roof type for the developments is suggested. A pitched, thatched roof is highly recommended, complimenting the island-living vibes in the area.

The Ruins in Sta. Fe, one of the municipality’s popular attractions, is one of the target locations for the mentioned proposal.

The same plans are also being proposed for Camotes. Under the master plan, the cliffside development is being pushed to be implemented in Western Poblacion, municipality of Poro.

Lessandro Maraon, OPAV’s head executive assistant, said that the LGUs of Bantayan and Camotes will now have a master plan that will further develop the respective tourism industries.

Bantayan Island | Photo from Unsplash

“These are detailed plans as they touch on several aspects, including tourism development, transport, culture, power, and wastewater management. These areas are essential in the tourism value-chain,”

MARAON SAID.

Based on the National Tourism Development Plan 2016-2022, the Bantayan and Camotes group of islands are part of the Cebu Tourism Development Area (TDA) under the Central Visayas and Negros Island Cluster Destination of the Central Philippines Destination Group.

Popular Horror-Comedy Manga ‘Zom 100 Bucket List Of The Dead’ is coming to Netflix

If you loved All of Us Are Dead, then this show might be for you!

Recently, Netflix Geeked announced that the zombie apocalypse comedy manga titled ‘Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead’ will have a live-action movie adaptation and it will be exclusively distributed worldwide in 2023.

Here’s what we know about the movie so far:

Created by Haro Aso, the same artist who made Alice in Borderland, this movie will be his second piece to be adapted into live-action.

Photo from Netflix

The movie is about Akira Tendo, a 24-year old man who’s close to giving up on his life as he faced many problems at the corporation he works at. Now that there’s a zombie apocalypse going on, Tendo suddenly realizes how much more he wants to do with his life and sets out to fulfill the 100 goals he has set for himself before he passes away.

Eiji Akaso, popularly known as Banjō Ryūga in the Kamen Rider franchise, will play as Akira Tendo.

Because the manga is still ongoing and the 100 bucketlist isn’t complete yet, we expect the movie to adapt the first three volumes.

With Alice in Borderland’s immense popularity, it’s no surprise that Netflix wants to adapt more of Haro Aso’s work. With no doubt, we could expect future sequels on this show depending on its would depend on the success of this series.

WATCH: Teaser trailer of ‘One Piece’ Live-Action Series on Netflix

Get a first look at the sets of One Piece.

Actor Iñaki Godoy, who plays the role of Luffy, with showrunners Steven Maeda and Matt Owens introduce a behind the scenes glimpse into bringing the world of One Piece to life.

Let’s take a look at the concept arts and production design they have already made.

First stop is the Windmill Village

Foosha Village, commonly known as Windmill village, is just a small port village located at Dawn Island. Although its just being tiny, this village is immensely loved as it is where the story of One Piece starts from.

Miss Love Duck of Alvida Pirates

“Iron Mace” Alvida, the captain of Alvida Pirates, is one of the first antagonists in the show. Alvida appeares to be a tall and very obese woman with long wavy black hair, and freckles on her cheeks. The Alvida Pirates use the Main Love Duck as their main ship. In the anime, the ship is shaped like a heart in design with heart-shaped patterns all over the sides.

Baratie, a 5-star floating restaurant

Located in the Sambas Region of the East Blue, the Baratie is an ocean-going restaurant run by Zeff. And this is where we meet our cook, Vinsmoke Sanji, for the first time.

The Baratie is a large oval-shaped wooden vessel that has a fish’s head formed on its front-piece. The ship may be for dining but a small array of cannons are lined on its sides, which can be used for battle.

Going Merry

What is a Captain without his ship? The Going Merry is the most iconic ship known to fans and non-fans. It was the first full-sized ship owned by the Straw Hat Pirates so it is basically a ‘home’ for the crew.

In the anime, the Going Merry had a jib and a central steer rudder. The ship’s armaments consisted of four cannons that the crew rarely used. It has a head of a sheep on its front-piece and the Straw Hat’s jolly roger painted on its sail.

With the Going Merry’s cartoony head was changed into something realistic, fans have mixed reactions to this.

Sadly, Netflix still haven’t give any hint at a release date or window, so One Piece likely won’t be released any time soon.

But the good thing is, the amount of work they’re doing shows they are making this show with love. Admittedly the fact that they’re building actual sets like this and not just using CGI is really impressive. Hopefully this can be a slayful adaptation.
