“My Father never gave me a bouquet of roses, instead he planted me a whole garden of flowers”
Just how far can a father go for his kids? This dining spot and Botanical Garden in Busay may be the exact epitome of an immeasurable father’s love. Terrazas de Flores- A place built on a father’s never-ending love for his children.
A Place Built on Family
Terrazas de Flores is a beautiful spot in Busay that showcases different types of colorful flowers. The place itself makes you feel like you are in an enchanted forest. But behind its beauty is an even more enchanting story of a father’s evergreen love for his kids.
Terrazas de Flores was built as a gift of a father to his children. The owner wanted to spend more time with his family and what better way to do that than to create their own family space?
Making memories with family- that’s what Terrazas de Flores stands with and both the owner and his children want Sugboanons to experience that too, thus Terrazas de Flores became open to the public as both a dining spot and botanical garden.
Of Art and Of Culture
Terrazas de Flores is also an artist’s haven and for good reason. Aside from the terraces of flowers, there are different amazing art pieces created by local artists from the Cebuano Arts Club. There’s even a mini Museum in the area if you want to immerse yourself more in Cebuano artworks.
Aside from the paintings, the terraces of flowers are forms of art in themselves. The landscape is the artwork of the gardeners that made it possible for the whole place to be established. The gardeners used the interlocking stone technique which is passed down from generation. No machinery, just pure culture.
Make Memories through Good Food and Ambiance
What’s a family core memory? It is spending time together by having delicious lunch at a great place. Terrazas de Flores does not only boast its terraces of flowers but also takes pride in their food.
A day at Terrazas de Flores is not complete without trying their back ribs and Chicken Francaise. Fun fact- the Chicken Francaise is a dish that the owner’s kids love to cook as a form of quality time. The menu is definitely fitting for a family.
And on top of that, you get to dine in a restaurant with rustic and homey vibes. The whole place allows diners to have an Al Fresco dining experience. That’s not all, there are also areas where couples can have the perfect date night, right in time for Valentine’s day like the Cabanas and the viewing deck.
And of course, end the day with a cocktail night as Terrazas de Flores also serves delicious cocktails. And the best part? You get to toast to a gorgeous view and ambiance with your family, friends, and even significant other.
Another best thing about the Terrazas de Flores experience? The entrance fee is only 100 per person and it’s also consumable.
Love is Everywhere, Love is at Terrazas de Flores
Love comes in all shapes and sizes, even in the form of beautiful terraces of flowers. Terrazas de Flores is not just about its structure or the landscape, it’s about making fond memories with the people you love. Love is everywhere, and evergreen love is at Terrazas de Flores.
BY HABAL-HABAL: Hire a habal-habal driver (Motorcycle for hire) near JY Square Mall in Lahug, and inform him to drop you off at Terrazas de Flores.
BY CAR: (Best option) Parking space available. Just search for ‘Terrazas de Flores’ in Cebu Transcentral Highway via Waze or Google Maps.
BY TAXI: Hiring a taxi cab is possible but that can be hefty. Most of them won’t give you a metered reading system – hence, they’ll be offering you an estimated fare in going there.
Love is definitely in the air, especially with Valentine’s Day just around the corner. If you’re planning to treat your special someone to a restaurant with good food while feeling the romance in the air, here are 10 restaurants in Cebu that you should consider going to!

Being a house helper for years is a tough road, but making it through feels more than just an achievement. It needs strength and capability, which helps give important lessons along the way. But in the case of Cherry Mae Villafuerte, she has been thinking about doing more. She wanted to help people—she wanted to be a caregiver.
Photo from Mhalditang Pasaway Mapagmhal
It’s not an easy decision for her, but she was ready to work for it. It didn’t matter if she even needed to start from square one, because she was ready for the challenge. She was more than ready to make her dreams come true.
How It All Started: An unconventional journey
It all started with a journey that was anything but conventional. When you think of someone becoming a caregiver, the image that probably comes to mind is someone who has spent years studying and training for the role. But that wasn’t the case for Cherry.
She started out as a house helper, cleaning and tidying other people’s homes while they went to work or took care of their families. It was hard work, but it allowed her to see the world and learn new things.
Photo from Mhalditang Pasaway Mapagmhal
“Ani-a ko karon bansang Malaysia nag trabaho isip usa ka katabang for almost 4 years na sa isa ra ka amo, usa ko naka graduate as caregiver,”
SHE SHARED.
Eventually, she realized that she wanted more. She wanted to be able to help people in a more meaningful way, and that’s when she decided to become a caregiver.
Overcoming Challenges: The struggles and hard work
When Cherry applied to be a househelper, she had already had an idea of entering the world of caregiving. That’s exactly what happened. It was hard work, and there were times when she thought she couldn’t do it anymore.
“Nagsumikap po ako mag abroad, nag-working student po ako. Nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na makapag aral dito sa Malaysia at di ko po sinayang bawat buwan ng day off, kahit medyo hirap sa sched, aral, at trabaho, pinagsabay ko po,” she reminisced.
But she persevered, and now, she proved to be one of the best in her class.
“Tungod sa akong pag paningkamot, wala ko magdahom nga maka top 3 og makadawat ko og 6 ka special awards, kay ang ako basta maka pasar lang ko ok na kaayo pero nakab-ot na nako ang akong pangandoy sa kaugalingon. Ni graduate ko atong January 29, 2023 diri sa bansang Malaysia,”
SHE PROUDLY SHARED.
There were times when she doubted yourself, but she always found the strength to keep going. She never gave up, and now her dreams have come true.
The Greatest Gift of All: A source of inspiration for others
When you hear the story of how Cherry became a caregiver, it’s hard not to be inspired.
After working as a house helper for many years, she eventually fulfilled her dream to be a caregiver. It was a challenging new role, but Cherry quickly rose to the challenge. She learned how to manage the complex needs of her patients and how to provide the best possible care.
What makes Cherry’s story so inspiring is her determination to make a difference in the lives of others. She never gives up, no matter how tough things get. She knows that her work is important, and she never fails to bring a smile to the faces of her patients.

Her story is a reminder that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Cherry is a living proof that dreams do come true.
Hindi hadlang ang kahirapan, mangarap ka at walang imposible basta samahan ng dasal at tyaga, makakamit mo lahat ng pangarap. Proud kasambahay to caregiver,” Cherry concluded.
So, if you’re feeling lost right now, if you feel like you’re struggling and working way too hard for too little, if you feel like your dreams are slipping through your fingers, know that you are not alone. Remember this story, remember the hard work and the perseverance and the dreams, and hold on to them.
You may not know it, but there is always someone out there that is a hero in their own way. Who knows, you may even be that person.
In this case, Angyl Fayth Ababat is the ordinary citizen-turned-hero in focus. She saw an unexpected incident and readily helped the victim. She never expected anything in return and did what she needed to do, simply because she knew she had to do something.
Photo from University of Cebu Facebook Page
Who Is Angyl Fayth Ababat?
Angyl Fayth Ababat is an unlikely hero in the form of a 20-year-old sophomore nursing student. Hailing all the way from Baybay, Leyte, she currently studies at the University of Cebu (UC) with the hopes of being a doctor someday.
From a distance, she looks like a typical nursing student who’s just trying to get through medical school. In fact, she’s an ordinary woman who’s been faced with some extraordinary challenges.
But that’s precisely what makes Fayth so heroic. Amidst all the hesitation and backlash that she thought of getting, since she did not have “full and proper training to save a life,” she rushed to the victim in order to help her.
How an ordinary day brought out the extraordinary in her
You never know when or where you might find a hero.
For Fayth, it was a day like any other. She said that on Monday, January 30, she traveled to downtown Cebu City with five of her classmates in order to buy supplies for their classes and laboratories.
They then heard the man who would later slice Zamora’s neck shouting down the street.
Fayth acknowledged that she was initially hesitant to assist the 54-year-old fruit vendor. She continued by saying that many individuals in the neighborhood, like her, saw how the crime developed.
At that time, there were adults, students studying medicine, and people who were older than us. I was hesitant because I believed that any one of them would be able to assist Nanay given their potential experience and expertise, she said.
Fayth gave her companion her phone and other valuables so they could go to Zamora’s side when the woman began to sway and was on the verge of collapsing.
Fayth was motivated to take the initiative and assist the woman by her inclination to assist others who were in a difficult situation.
“Unya naay lain mas kinahanglan ug tabang og dapat tabangan gyud,” the kana ganing thought, “since kita ka ug tao nga require gyud ug tabang.” Fayth remarked, “Mao na ang instinct nisulod sa akoa.”
Photo from University of Cebu Facebook Page
Her story’s impact to others
Fayth’s story is filled with kindness and humanity, and her actions are a true testament to the power of human will. Her journey has inspired many people, especially when helping others when they can.
In relation to the commendable deed by Fayth, Director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), Police Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, announced that Fayth will be honored for her valiant actions on Monday, February 6.
Additionally, Councilor Rey Gealon submitted a resolution officially appreciating the nursing student’s efforts and deeds.
Fayth responded by saying she was relieved to learn that the community did not take an act of kindness toward a person in need for granted.
She continued,
“Knowing that the public genuinely appreciated your acts in saving another person’s life is incredibly rewarding.”
Fayth also responded as follows when asked if she has anything to share with the world following her recent experience:
“Always make the decision to be kind and to help others in your own small ways. It doesn’t have to be something monumental like saving a life. But it’s more than enough to make people’s lives a little bit more pleasant,”
It has been always said that dogs are a man’s best friend. This has been proven over time because of the many situations where they show loyalty, grit, and tenacity. Their loyalty is unwavering and their skills, especially their senses, are often unmatched.

Such display of super sense was displayed last February 1 when a drug-sniffing dog named Bulik, helped seize illegal drugs at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) after 7 o’clock in the evening. Authorities seized from a foreign visitor more than P120 million worth of illegal narcotics thought to be methamphetamine or shabu.
South African national Pietro Aliquo landed at MCIA Terminal 2 from South Africa, and agents from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA 7) seized the contraband from him.
Aliquo took a commercial flight from Doha, Qatar, to Cebu. But when PDEA 7’s drug-sniffing canine Bulik discovered illicit substances in his suitcase, the man was apprehended. His personal things were checked by airport staff after Bulik sat down on the suitcase.
The PDEA-7 reported that when the three goods were thoroughly examined, a total of 10 packs of suspected shabu, weighing a combined 17,699 grams and costing PHP120,353,200, were found in concealed compartments.
Photo from BBT
A PDEA-7 chemist’s initial examinations of the substances produced a positive finding for hazardous pharmaceuticals, the report stated. The PDEA 7 laboratory has received the seized materials for chemical analysis.
Aliquo will be prosecuted for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Substances Act of 2002, by importing dangerous drugs.
