Experience Ultimate Grilled Food Goodness at Igbaw in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island

Do you know what makes a good beach day ten times better? It’s grubbing on delicious grilled seafood and meat after a swim. The taste of smokey and savory grilled goodness is absolutely unbeatable.

Sinugba by the beach is heaven for foodies. But, what if we tell you that there is a fantastic resto and grill in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, that does exactly that?

Make your way to Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, and indulge in good food and music at Igbaw Resto Grill— it’s more than just your ordinary grilling place.

Elevated Dining Experience in the Heart of Santa Fe

Igbaw Resto and Grill is nestled in the heart of Santa Fe, Bantayan Island. It is even just a few strides away from a beautiful public beach.

Igbaw’s overall design is a sight to behold because of its Mediterranean vibe. The place has a good contrast of black and white, which gives off a modern feel. The resto also has what they call “The towers.” The towers are elevated areas in the food place where customers can dine while enjoying the view of the beach and neighboring islets

The resto also sports an open-air concept where diners can feel the cool sea breeze. There are plenty of seats and tables that can accommodate many customers.

Quality Entertainment with State-of-the-art Equipments

Before we head to the food, let’s talk about Igbaw’s quality entertainment in the form of a live band. What sets Igbaw apart from the others is the resto’s band and music choices. From Jazz to modern songs, Igbaw resto and Grill offers a new entertainment experience to diners.

The resto invites different bands from Cebu to play every Friday and Saturday. Not only that, but they also use high-quality equipment that brings justice to the band’s impressive performances.

“People come for the food, but they stay for the band,” the owner expressed as he proudly talked about the quality entertainment Igbaw offers.

Mouth-watering Seafood and Meat Platter, Pochero, and More

And now on to the stars of the show, the mouthwatering foods at Igbaw Grill and Resto.

To describe the food at Igbaw, the word “delicious” is an understatement. They offer an array of food choices, from grilled to soup dishes. We had the chance to try their mouth-watering dishes; here are the best-sellers we’ve tried:

Sizzling Gambas

The sizzling Gambas at Igbaw is lathered in with a sweet and salty sauce. The shrimps were plump and juicy. They bring out a sizzling plate and put the gambas on top. The sound of sizzling was enough to make us want to dig in immediately.

Pochero

The Pochero at Igbaw is one of the highlights of the resto and grill. People from Bantayan literally put effort into going to Igbaw just for the Pochero. The soup was warm and flavorful, and the meat was tender. It was perfect for combating the cold sea breeze.

Boneless Bangus

The boneless bangus was our favorite. It was packed with flavor, and the fish itself was soft; it’s almost like it melted in your mouth. It was fresh and perfect with a spicy soy sauce-calamansi dip.

Seafood and Meat Platter

The affordable seafood and meat platter is already good for six people. It has crabs, scallops, shrimp, stuffed squid, pork belly, chorizo de Cebu, grilled boneless bangus, and a platter of fried rice.

Baked Scallops

Who does not love baked scallops? The scallops at Igbaw were fresh and baked to garlicky and buttery perfection.

Crabs

And lastly, the crabs. Like the Gambas, the crabs drowned in a sweet, salty, and savory sauce. The crab meat sucked in all the flavor from the sauce, and it was heaven in every bite. Do you want a tip? Scoop out all the crab meat, get a bit of sauce, and mix it with the fried rice. Try it out; you’ll thank us later.

Breakfast with a View

The resto also offers breakfast from 6 AM to 10 AM. Breakfast is a must-try at Igbaw, especially when you are given a view of the beach. They offer different local breakfast meals that you will surely love. We got to try their bacon and egg, pusit, and the Cebuano favorite called Danggit. If you love hot drinks in the morning, they also have coffee and hot chocolate to pair with your breakfast.

Igbaw ensures that all their ingredients, especially seafood, are delivered fresh daily.

Margaritas, beers, and more at Igbaw Resto and Grill

What’s even better to pair with grilled food? Beer. Igbaw also offers local beers to customers. That’s not all. They also have margaritas and cocktails available. The resto has a minibar where you can choose your favorite drinks.

A Comfortable and Homey Stay Below at Casa Blanca

Igbaw is located on the roof deck of Casa Blanca. Casa Blanca has available rooms and different services for guests who plan to stay overnight, like a massage. The rooms are clean and homey with their white interior. Each room is equipped with a bed, a TV with cable, and a private bathroom.

If you find yourself in Santa Fe, head over to Igbaw and elevate your dining experience. Grilled food and bands? Count us in! Get ready to fall in love with the island life at Igbaw Resto and Grill.

From Facebook’s Intern to its Biggest Competitor— here’s how TikTok’s CEO started out

Some people dream of working for big companies, while others dream of COMPETING with big companies.

Photo from Shou Chew

If you are one of the people who gave in to temptations during the pandemic, you might now have one of the biggest video-sharing platforms in the world— TikTok.

TikTok is owned and led by Shou Zi Chew. He hails proudly from Singapore and graduated from the University College London. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 2006. However, after graduating, he did not stop there. He then had his Master of Business Administration at Harvard.

Here’s the interesting part: before becoming the president of one of the most popular apps, he interned at the biggest website in 2009. Can you guess? Facebook. Yes, Shou Zi Chew used to be an intern at Facebook.

Photo from Unsplash

Who knew that a person who used to be an intern for one of the tech giants would become its fiercest competitor? And Facebook was definitely fazed by TikTok’s growing success. Facebook reportedly changed its algorithms to keep up with Tiktok.

According to Chew, he tried to learn from companies that started before TikTok and all the other new-generation applications and websites.

With TikTok’s success and popularity, officials from the United States believed that the app could cause a big security breach.

“The potential security, privacy, and content manipulation concerns raised about Tiktok are really not unique to us. The same issue apply to other companies”.

CHEW STATED. HE ALSO URGED FOR TRANSPARENT RULES THAT APPLY TO ALL TECH COMPANIES.
Photo from Unsplash

With hard work, determination, and constant learning, we can unlock our true potential. That is what Shou Zi Chew did. He learned from the biggest tech companies and applied it to his own. Let this be an inspiration for all aspiring CEOs or company owners. Dream Big and make it real.

Business 101: How to start your own Takoyaki business empire

The Filipino palate is proud to house a variety of culinary traditions from throughout the globe. The Filipino palate enjoys eating different cultures’ cuisines, such as Middle Eastern shawarma and Korean samgyupsal, in order to fully understand their cultural background. Takoyaki, a different Japanese dish, has taken over the dumpling market in Filipino department stores and street food joints today.

Photo from Unsplash

But these dumplings are more than just delicious to eat, because you can also make money with these! Read on, and you’ll learn how to start a takoyaki business in the Philippines!

What is a Takoyaki?

Takoyaki is a popular Japanese street snack that is frequently sold during festivals. It was created in 1935 by a man by the name of Tomokichi Endo, and it has completely taken over the streets of Japan.

The origin of its name may be traced back to two words: “yaki,” which means baked or grilled, and “tako,” which means octopus. To make takoyaki, a batter ball is formed and then filled with diced or whole baby octopus, pickled ginger, green onion, and occasionally red shrimp. Takoyaki sauce, mayo, and katsuobushi or dried bonito flakes are then added to the batter ball. Following that, these are the factors to take into account while opening a takoyaki business in the Philippines:

Start your Takoyaki business with these steps

1. Investigate the market

Photo from Unsplash

In the Philippines, takoyaki is a growing sector, but how well will you do if you compete in the same space? More than just popularity, there are numerous more elements that affect a company’s prosperity in your community; it is the exact purpose of market research.

Here are some suggestions for market research questions:

  • Whom are you trying to reach?

Are people familiar with takoyaki? If not, would they be willing to try new foods from other cultures? Are Takoyaki in demand right now?

  • What are the purchasing patterns of your target market?

Does your market make an effort to visit Takoyaki locations? What is the maximum price point for snacks in your market?

  • How does the market appear?

Is it a modest neighborhood where homestalls are typical? Do you require a physical location?

  • Who are your rival companies?

Are there any other Takoyaki restaurants in the area? If so, do they offer prices that are reasonable? Exist any well-known snack places that might challenge your company?

2. Prepare a decent amount of capital

Any unit, including your intended firm, must have sufficient funds to operate. You use the capital to pay for the manufacture of the items or services you want to provide in order to make money, the takoyaki industry in this instance.

Your business’s beginning will be based on how much money you currently have. If preliminary market analysis indicates that a home stall is successful, the least amount you might have to invest in a takoyaki business in the Philippines is roughly $15,000 (for basic equipment and supplies).

3. Know what you need and gather them

Here are the essentials you’ll need to launch a takoyaki business in the Philippines if you decide to go it alone.

What goes into producing takoyaki:

  • Flour
  • Condiments (salt, pepper, soy sauce, Japanese mayonnaise)
  • Oil
  • Octopus
  • Garlic, green
  • Red ginger
  • Cabbage
  • Bonito flakes, dried up
  • Powdered green seaweed

Tools required for making takoyaki

  • Takoyaki pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • A wire whisk
  • Chopsticks
  • Food brush
  • Spray bottle for oil
  • Sauce nozzles
  • Gas tank

These are the essential tools required to establish a takoyaki business in the Philippines, though they may change based on how you wish to run your company.

4. Look for reputable suppliers

It’s simple enough to purchase the necessary tools and supplies at your neighborhood supermarket; hence, purchasing goods is not too difficult if you want to launch your own company. You can find everything you need in Japanese department shops or online from places like KTown PH and NegoPinoy Trade.

However, if you want to open a major Takoyaki franchise, it’s a completely different story. Most of the time, in addition to the license to sell under their brand name, they also give the equipment you’ll need for the operation.

5. Find the best location for your stall

Your financial resources and the findings of your market research will define where your store will be located. You should look for a location for your company that is both accessible to and convenient for your clients.

If a home stall is not competitive enough based on your market analysis, you might need to rent a commercial company space or own a spot for your takoyaki establishment. Open your company in a palace where there aren’t any well-known takoyaki restaurants already established, unless you have a special selling concept that will set you out from the competitors.

6. Plan out a killer marketing strategy

Establishing a Takoyaki business in the Philippines is one thing, but successful marketing is usually what gets things going. Here are some suggestions for marketing your takoyaki company:

  • Use social media to your advantage. Use Facebook to invite friends, advertise your new company, or set up a page where you can post updates.
  • Sign up for Google My Business to have your company appear in search results.
  • Start up a stir in the neighborhood. Never underestimate the influence of the Filipino “Marites.”

In conclusion, takoyaki is a growing industry in the Philippines, considering the very many new locations sprouting up all over the country. It’s clear that investing in the industry can be very profitable if you do thorough market research, offer excellent value, and follow sound marketing strategies.

But as more Filipinos seek to change their financial fortunes, more scammers appear to prey on the gullible and deceive would-be entrepreneurs. Be cautious when purchasing a franchise, although it would be preferable if you could create your own brand from scratch, which is much better!

Last March 22, 2023, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released new guidelines for the accreditation and management of driving schools. The guidelines also include the standard way of teaching student drivers and those who plan to apply as a conductor.

The new guidelines will be implemented starting April 15, 2023.

According to the Memorandum Circular No. JMT- 2023-2390, released by the LTO, private driving institutions may set their theoretical driving (TDC) fee to 1,000. Meanwhile, they may charge 2,500 to 8,000 for practical driving courses (PDC). The PDC fees will depend on the type of car or license code.

In addition, it is also stated in the memorandum that applicants may complete their mandatory 15-hour theoretical driving course within two days. However, the applicants must accomplish their mandatory 15-hour TDC in one month. On the other hand, the practical driving course (PDC) should be completed in at least 8 hours per license code.

The memorandum specified that PDC for light and heavy vehicles should be at least two days. Meanwhile, the 8-hour PDC for motorcycles may be conducted for one day. However, the student driver should prove to have excellent knowledge about motorcycle driving according to their practical driving instructor’s assessment.

LTO also requires driving schools to register the biometrics and other details of their applicants to the LTO system through the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) Client ID. This is to determine the actual start of the applicant’s TDC.
