When it comes to planning a vacation or a weekend getaway, many people automatically think of heading to the beach. However, there is an alternative that offers a more unique and diverse experience: springs.

With temperatures going over 32°C, we really deserve to take a break from everything and plunge into cold waters to clear our minds. Hidden in the trees of Tuburan, you can find yourself in front of crystal clear waters with lush green scenery surrounding the area. As enchanting as ever, the small body of water just draws you in with its irresistible azure aqua.

What can we find in this spring that feels as though it is being kept as a secret because of how underrated it is? Let us find out!

Bewitching plant life

If you need a break from looking at concrete walls all day in the city, then away to the province you go!

Away from the metropolitan life is a dreamland of plants. Springs are often surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife, providing a more immersive and natural experience.

Where Mantawihan is situated is a land that is near cliffs overlooking forests.

On top of the water are cements with grass peeking out of them, giving more of a magical feel to the place.

Various plants and trees can be found all over the area, but nipa palms are most abundant!

Nipa palms are known to make places look like tropical havens, but next to the spring, it makes the entire landscape look like a tropical paradise.

It is the perfect combination of greens and blues, the colors that are most pleasing to the eyes.

Relaxing cold waters

Not only is the water pleasing to the eyes, with its clarity and rich ultramarine color, it is also cool in temperature.

With the splash of the jumps you take off from the massive rocks that surround the natural pool, you can submerge yourself into the aesthetic waters that take you to another world and completely forget about the blazing sun because of how cooling it is. It gives you the relaxation you have been craving for over the months under the scorching heat.

The calm and crystalline waters are unlike any other, if the rowdy beaches are not for you, then the springs is where you should be heading.

Unlike crowded beaches, springs offer a more secluded and peaceful atmosphere, making them ideal for relaxation and reconnecting with nature.

This Cebuana has step foot on all the provinces in the Philippines

We found the winner for the Philippine travel level map!

For the past few weeks, the Philippine travel level map wherein people can plot where they have step foot in the country became a trend, and we may have just found who bags gold for it.

Photo from Nicdelrosario on Instagram

A 26-year-old Cebuana who currently lives in Manila working as a bank risk analyst, Nicole Marie del Rosario, was the woman herself behind Project81PH, a personal project that revolves around her goals of stepping into all the provinces of the archipelago.

She wrote on social media about having accomplished her goal in 2019 and it has since then gone viral.

Photo from Nicdelrosario on Instagram
Photo from Nicdelrosario on Instagram

Del Rosario frequently traveled during her childhood summer breaks to Baguio or to visit her grandma in Albay. As a result of these early family vacations, she had a strong sense of adventure and by the time she graduated from college, she began embarking on her own journeys.

In Pinoy culture, seeking out a new adventure is a core, especially when it is spent with loved ones. Many of us seek the natural wonders all the country has to offer in order to celebrate life.

Photo from Nicdelrosario on Instagram

In an interview, she stated that it sparked her to do it with her friends because she was not allowed to do it when she was younger. She began taking backpacking journeys across provinces and made visiting all 81 of them a priority.

From Batanes down to Tawi-Tawi, she decided to see all these places for herself to explore what her own country has to offer her. Del Rosario embarked on the journey and several items on her list or provinces she had already visited with family and friends, were already crossed off with Batanes and Palawan as her favorite ones.

For those who wanderlust, your own country is a good place to start! You can appreciate your own heritage and learn to appreciate the things that are beyond what the eye can see. Feed your pride as a Filipino and feel a greater sense of belonging to your nation by knowing where you stand.

Here are some ways you can battle the heatwave with your pets

Our beloved pets have no voice to ask for help from us.

The heatwave is a silent killer, and it has been taking the lives of many in Asia. For those who cannot speak for themselves, summer is a losing battle of staying hydrated.

Photo from Alexa Kate Anlagan

With temperatures going beyond 35°C, our pets are at risk of overheating. Because of the effects of global warming, the country is expected to be much warmer throughout the year. It is important that we keep the health of our pets especially during this season in mind to keep them from suffering under harsh environmental conditions.

Here are some ways you can keep your pets cool this summer.

Provide adequate shade and water

Mingkoy the Orange Tabby | Photo form Jesmar Joseph Dalura

These are the very basics and should be regularly ensured. If we need shade and water to cool down, so do our pets. Keeping our pets in the shade can prevent their paws from burning on hot surfaces, so avoid having them walk on concrete or asphalt roads that have been exposed to the sun. For both indoors and outdoors, cool water should be given to them to keep a normal temperature. If you can, you should provide a spot outside wherein strays can also have access to cool and clean water.

Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke

Simon the Beagle | Photo from Jezreel Magallon

Any animal can develop heatstroke because they are unable to cool down by sweating the way we humans do. If their breathing rate seems to be increasing to the extent that they are panting, along with a sudden hyperactiveness, it could be an early sign of heatstroke. Also check for gum color with bright red being of concern and if their skin is hot to the touch, some of these you can check regularly.

Plan your walks with the temperature in mind

Nick the Shipoo | Photo from Alexa Kate Anlagan

Dogs need exercise to keep their joints healthy, but in times like these you have to time your walks carefully. Checking the ground temperature is important and adjusting routes relatively are good precautions to take. Also remember to bring water for them when you take them out.

Groom your pets regularly

Banana the Bunny | Photo from Maria Reina Sylvia Toledanes

Giving your pets a regular trim for the summer can keep them comfortable, but this also depends on their breed. Consult your veterinarian first and ask them if you can do anything with your pets’ coats that can help them cool down. One thing you can do is run cool water over your dogs when you are bathing them as this can help.

Summer can be a wonderful time for outdoor activities but it can also be a dangerous time for all of us, especially for our furry friends. As pet owners, it is our responsibility to ensure that our pets are safe and comfortable during these times as a way of showing we care for them.

Here’s How You Can reduce Your Air Conditioner Electricity Bill

“Isara ang purtahan kay mugawas ang aircon” (Close the door, the aircon might get out)

You have probably heard your parents say that or even said it yourself. It’s a common phrase people say when the door is open while the AC is running. However, it is one way of preventing wasted energy.

Let’s be honest; this heat makes us all wish to turn our air conditioners up to the max and leave it running for the entire day. But of course, running the AC means soaring electricity bills. Fortunately, there are ways for you to reduce your electricity bill even when using an air conditioner.

1. Make Sure the Installation is Right

Photo from Unsplash

Did you know that a poorly installed air conditioner can make it work even harder? Unfortunately, when it works harder, it can actually increase your electricity bill.

Do not do the installation on your own. Always hire a professional to ensure that the unit is installed correctly.

2. Avoid Direct Sunlight

Photo from Unsplash

Homeowners or people with an air conditioning unit do not usually know that ACs should not be installed in direct sunlight. Once a unit is exposed to sunlight, it will increase its performance load.

3. Insulate the room

Photo from Unsplash

When using an air conditioning unit, you must ensure all windows and doors are properly closed. The area will be kept cool because warm air cannot get in from outside.

4. Using AC only when in the room or if necessary

Photo from Unsplash

This is a common practice. Whenever you are not in the room, make sure to turn off the AC completely. Not only will it help save electricity, but it will also give your AC time to rest before it is used again.

5. Regular Maintenance

Photo from Unsplash

Much like cars, air conditioning units also need regular maintenance. Hire a professional to thoroughly check the unit and clean it of dust or dirt. Ultimately, cleaning and maintaining the AC will help it perform better.

Make sure to follow these ways so you won’t have to worry about your electricity bill skyrocketing because of your AC usage. Let us also be responsible AC owners and users, especially when we need it most.

SIM Card Registration extended for 90 Days, DOJ announces

Are you one of the people who still need to register their SIM cards? Then, this might be the news you’ve been waiting for.

Photo from Unsplash

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla just announced that the SIM card registration had been extended for 90 days. The announcement was made during an inter-agency task force meeting.

Last Tuesday, Remulla met with President Bongbong Marcos, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy, and other government officials. The sectoral meeting was conducted to decide whether the SIM card registration was to be extended.

Photo from Unsplash

This decision is contrary to what DICT-7 director Frederick Amores expressed as he believed that extending the SIM card registration was unnecessary because SIM cards will be reactivated even after the deadline.
If you want to know more about the SIM Card Registration, you can click here.

Fish Bait No More: Selecta Ice Cream Tubs Now sport a Transparent Look

It’s oh-fish-ial. Selecta ice cream tubs are now transparent!

Bet believe we’ve fallen fishbait to seemingly harmless ice cream tubs. What we thought was a tub filled with creamy goodness turned out to be something fishy. Selecta has started using transparent tubs.

Photo from Selecta Facebook Page

In a viral Facebook post by Angelo Jose, Selecta tubs now have a see-through look. In the photo, you can visibly and clearly see the Double Dutch ice cream.

“Di na tayo malilinlang. Selecta na nag adjust”,

JOSE WROTE. THE POST NOW HAS 59K LIKES AND 26K SHARES AS OF WRITING.

What do you think? Are the Selecta tubs slaying their new look? But one thing is for sure—we don’t have to play a game of “guess what’s inside.”

Why BJ is Good for You in This Hot Weather

BJ would sound so good right now. There is absolutely nothing better than an ice-cold BUKO JUICE to combat this heat.

In the Philippines, feeling like you are being cooked alive in an oven is an understatement. Because of the insane heat, we all want something to make us feel refreshed, and BJ might just be the answer to that.

Buko Juice is one of the Philippines’ most popular drinks. It is refreshing and can be prepared in more ways than one. There are buko juice vendors stationed in the streets, and they usually sell buko juice with milk.

Did you know that buko juice is not only delicious but also has many benefits? Let’s take a look at them one by one. Who knows, this might convince you to switch sodas with buko juice.

1. Buko Juice is good for Hydration.

Photo from Unsplash

Ditch sugary drinks and switch to buko juice. It has no added sweetener and is all-natural, which makes it the perfect drink to keep hydrated, especially during hot weather. It is also a good source of vitamins and minerals.

2. Aids in Healthy Digestion

Photo from Unsplash

If you have digestive problems, buko juice is excellent for you. The wonders of coconut water include aiding in healthy digestion because it has fiber and magnesium content. Fiber and magnesium help feed healthy stomach bacteria responsible for digesting food.

3. Helps Improve Skin Texture

Photo from Unsplash

During heatwaves, our skin tends to get dehydrated, irritated, and dry. With buko juice, your skin can get the extra vitamin C it needs. Coconut water has about 10ml of vitamin C per 100 grams. So, protect your skin during the summer and give it the hydration and radiance it deserves.

4. Great for the Heart

Photo from Unsplash

Lower the risk of stroke and other heart diseases by drinking buko juice. buko juice is filled with potassium which aids in overall cardiovascular system health. Potassium also helps reduce blood pressure and can help prevent the development of heart disease.

5. Great for Bones

Photo from Unsplash

Coconut water is also a good source of calcium which aids in keeping your bones and teeth healthy. There are about 60mg of calcium in one serving of coconut water.

6. Weightloss friendly

Photo from Unsplash

And, of course, buko juice is weight loss friendly. It also helps muscles burn more calories because of its high bioactive enzymes and potassium. The enzymes can help you boost your metabolism. It’s fresh, delicious, and healthy; what more can you ask for?

With all its health benefits, buko juice is absolutely a must-drink. Beat the summer heat and cool down with a cold glass of BJ. Brb, getting my own!
