Last Minute Wedding at Hachimitsu after Fire Burns Down Minglanilla Trial Court

Christmas is more than the holiday gifts and feast. The spirit of Christmas is all about giving, and in this story, we will witness the act of giving done by a buffet restaurant in Cebu as they help a couple make their wedding dress come true.

A Yakiniku buffet restaurant in Cebu saves the day for a couple’s wedding after the courthouse where they were supposed to get married burns down due to a fire. Hachimitsu was happy to say YES to a couple’s last-minute request to hold their wedding at the Yakiniku place.

According to one of Hachimitsu’s owners, Miss Denesse Yu, she received a late-night call from a guest (Mr. Jestoni Cordova) who wanted to do a last-minute wedding at the restaurant. The couple originally intended to marry at the Minglanilla Trial Court. However, due to a fire that sparked due to arson, the couple was not able to have their wedding at the trial court, which was also affected.

The couple booked a buffet-only wedding, but Miss Denesse and her husband had even better plans for the couple.

“My husband and I sensed a higher purpose and felt compelled to go above and beyond by preparing the venue for the ceremony.” Miss Denesse Yu, Hachimitsu owner.

What the couple thought would be a simple civil wedding turned out to be an intimate and picturesque celebration.

The couple said their vows and chimed yes to marriage life with a fantastic view of the city at Hachimitsu.

Hachimitsu is not only a place for good food and a great view but also a place where love blooms, relationships grow stronger, and connections spark and grow into something even more beautiful.

Would you want to celebrate your wedding here too? Worry not; Hachimitsu now accepts event bookings for any event you have in mind. You can read more about it here.

Pets Are A Lifelong Commitment, Not a Christmas Present

This Christmas season, the gift-giving tradition makes the pressure of thinking about what to give loved ones is at an all-time high. While the happiness that comes with unwrapping a gift is something that everyone treasures so much, you, as a giver, also need to assess how ethical the present is. We are of course talking about pets — animals who have lives, needs, and feelings, not things that can be had whenever you want for the aesthetics which you can set aside like other objects.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), owning a pet is a long-term commitment that can span 10 to 15 years or more. The thing about giving it to someone, say a kid (the demographic is most likely the one who’d ask for this as a gift) is that there is no assurance that these animals will be well-taken care of, one because the owner-to-be is a child, and two because the entire family might not have either the financial or emotional capacity to care for one.

Pets rely on human companions for all of their needs such as food, medical care, and emotional support, which cannot really be given unless the owners are committed. Giving pets should be well-thought out so as not to lead to the neglect of creatures who are at the mercy of our hands.

There have been studies published to showcase the consequences of pet purchases during the holiday season, most of which being impulsive. The novelty of having a pet may lead to some fun, but if people only focus on the fleeting feeling that comes with something new, then it is clear that long-term care is less likely to be in the equation.

According to the UK Parliament, approximately 250,000 animals end up going to rescue shelters annually. This is partly caused by unconsented giving of pets, which is exactly why it is not a good idea to surprise someone with a living being for the holidays, or on any occasion at all.

As we celebrate this season with the people we love, we should also think about the well-being of all the stakeholders in the scenario. Being considerate enough to the receiver by carefully assessing their capacity and priorities is a gift itself, and caring about an animal’s life is guaranteeing that they end up somewhere they are wanted.

Fostering awareness regarding this issue is highly important. We ought to educate potential pet owners to be responsible, and the same principle applies to those who think about making someone into a pet owner. Having a pet is something that shouldn’t be given to you; it should be a lasting and fulfilling experience that someone actively chooses, building a strong interspecies relationship. Remember that pets are not objects, nor something to throw away when the snow melts.

Toyota Recalls One Million Vehicles in the US due to airbag Malfunctions

Over one million US Toyota and Lexus vehicles will be recalled due to concerns regarding the cars’ airbag systems.

Photo from MotorBiscuit

The issue is the sensors in the front passenger seats. According to the Japanese carmaker, the sensors could have been manufactured improperly, which can lead to a short circuit.

“This would not allow the airbag system to properly classify the occupant’s weight, and the airbag may not deploy,” said the company. They also added that it may increase the risk of injury.

Toyota will reach out to the customers by mid-February. They also mentioned that dealers would inspect the cars affected and have them replaced at “no cost to owners” if such problems exist.

103-year-old Christmas Tree Sells for P242k at an Auction

Who would have thought that a Christmas tree that was bought with pennies could sell out for thousands of dollars?

A 103-year-old Christmas tree was sold at an auction for $4,328 or about P242,000 last December 15, 2023.

Photo from Turkmenportal

The tree was bought by a woman named Dorothy Grant in the 1920s in England. Dorothy adorned the tree with cotton to mimic the look of snow. Since then, it has been a tree Dorothy displayed every Christmas.

The small tree stands at 31 inches tall and has 25 branches. It was then passed down to Dorothy’s daughter, Shirley Hall after Dorothy died in 2014 at the age of 101.

This year, 2023, Shirley auctioned off her mother’s special Christmas tree. Her reason for doing so is to honor her mother’s memory and to make sure that the tree survives more decades.

Why would a small tree sell for thousands of dollars? Charles Hanson, owner of the auction house, explained that it was nostalgia that pulled people to buy the memorable Christmas tree. Initially, Charles thought the tree would sell only for $75 to $102, but it reached an amount no one would expect.

Even the simplest things can be priced more not because of their beauty but because of the history and memories that come along with them.

The researchers gathered and analyzed data from 32,094 European participants. The participants self-reported their smoking habits. The number of smoking years for individuals who smoked one pack a day was reported to experience a massive level of brain shrinkage compared to those who smoked less than 100 cigarettes.

Brain shrinkage can lead to the brain losing its ability to function properly. Quitting smoking can lessen the possibility of brain shrinkage. However, the brain’s original mass will not be recovered.

A Doctor named D. Beirut explained that smoking involves ingesting toxic chemicals that lower oxygen levels in the blood; lower oxygen levels slowly starve the brain.
