Top 10 Cebuano Songs We Know By Heart

2
best-cebuano-songs-sugbo

Here is a list of the iconic songs that took over Cebu and made a huge impact in our lives. The songs we cannot help but sing along to, from the nostalgic BisRock to the rising VisPop songs.

This can either be a test, a trip down memory lane or a learning to all our readers. Let me take you to the journey through these “Cebuano songs”.

1. Lingin

By Aggressive Audio

Titled “lingin” or circle, it is one of the most remembered songs of all time for the Cebuanos. This song represents both humor and creativity. Imagining a circle house, a circle knife, a circle nose and the list goes on will surely put a smile in your circle mouth. It touches the obvious circles, the imaginary, and the deep, how our life is a circle and that we are all circles.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Ang among balay… Lingin.
Ang among atop… Lingin.
Ang among bintana… Lingin.
Ang among pultahan… Lingin.

Kay akong kinabuhi lingin
Kitang tanan sa kalibutan lingin”
[/box]

2. Bisan Pa

By WetSlipperz

A love song for a broken heart combined with a little rock. It was very famous that it has its own tagalog version entitled “Kahit Na”. Roughly translated the title is “Even if/ Even though”. It was the start of an era of BisRock. Everyone was singing it relating to a love lost and the pain of loving them still.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Bisan pa ug may lain ka na karon
Ikaw lang gihapon ang higugmaon
Bisan pa ug kasakit lang ang maangkon
Basta malipay ka ang tanan akong dawaton”
[/box]

3. Principal

By Missing Filimon

This song is a shout out to everyone who is tired of life in general. Taken in the point of view of a student who sees being a celebrity as the solution. The song went from the decision to be an actor to people being actors in real life. It’s a song that allows people to air out their frustrations by singing it.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Prinsipal gusto ko nga mag-artista
Gikapuy na ko’g eskwela
Way allowance, hagu pa”
[/box]

4. Gugmang Giatay

By The Ambassadors

Roughly translated, it means “Damn Love/Damned Love”. It’s a love letter to a girl, raw, simple and straight forward. It represents everyone who has been a victim of the feeling.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Oh kahayag sa imong panagway
Nga naulipon sa gugmang giatay
Inday paminawa kabos kong gugma
Nga animo akong igasa”
[/box]

5. Duyog

By Jewel Villaflores

A song of a found love. The song is full of metaphorically presented lines. It is a vow to that “you”.

A certain someone that seems to be everything in your life. This is a mellow song that was a break from its bisrock predecessors.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Ikaw lang akong
akong higugmaon
Ikaw lang ako
Ako matinud-anon”
[/box]

6. Balay ni Mayang

By Martina San Diego

From its chill acoustic strumming, down to the whistling, this one is definitely a “feel good song”. It makes us sway and stay calm. Everyone’s got this song’s melody stuck in their heads. Balay ni Mayang or “House of Mayang” was like a combination of folk songs, acoustic and pop.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Anhi-a ko dri sa balay (Chill lang gud, dili na ko magdugay)
Kay gimingaw na ko nimo gamay
Ayaw na pagdugay-dugay
Pagdali na’g anhi kay ganahan ko kitang duha diri mugpahuway”
[/box]

7. HAHAHAHasula

By Kurt Fick

The rise of VisPop was unstoppable. This song in particular was sang in all corners of Cebu. Featured in television and radios, the song was that relatable. The struggles of an unrequited love, a hidden one at that. The story of almost everyone. The illogical reasoning, actions, and worse, illogical feelings that is so absurd and comical one can only laugh. Hence, the HAHAHA.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Di ta uyab, walay ikaw ug ako
Apan kon magselos ko
Ayaw pagbuot, Sige na lang ta anig
Ha Ha Ha katawa
Ha Ha Ha hasula ning kahimtanga”
[/box]

8. BokLove

By Kurt Fick and Therese Marie Villarante

Usually, couples become healthier and gain weight the longer they are together. They say that this indicates that the relationship is healthy and strong. The song kind of explains the “how”, with inserting Cebu delicacies and the tempting delicious foods. A song of love that is abundant, healthy and big.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Pirting dakoa ining atong gugma.
Ngilngig pa nis mantikaong humba.
Pramis this is pinakalast nga extra rice.
Plus potato corner fries.
Ugma lang ta mag diet ha?
Kay manambok baya gyud ni ang in… laaab.”
[/box]

9. Pero Atik Ra

By Jaqueline Chang

The ultimate “hugot” song. Each line of this song contains a certain punch to every person trying to move on. The “assuming” and “pinaasa” hearts had this as an anthem. It talks of finally giving up, of being sick of it but then takes it back again. Story of our lives.

Iconic Lyrics:

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=”400″]
“Diri na lang ko kutob
Diri na lang ko taman
Dili na ko mogukod
Sa taw’ng kusog modagan
Kay kung di gyud, di gyud
Wa na ta’y pugsanay
Ay’na lang
Ay’na ko’g atika
Pero atik ra ha, ha”
[/box]

10. Cebuana

By Karencitta

The resort can arrange pickup services from the main road for P700, good for 10 pax. Otherwise, habal2x drivers (motorbikes) are happy to take you to the resort for only P50 each person.

If you are using a private/rented vehicle, READ THIS CAREFULLY. DO NOT follow Waze just yet. Instead, put the destination first to Sangat National High School (as shown on the image below). From the alley near Maiqui’s Bakeshop, that’s the time you change the destination to Blueridges Resort.

If you don’t follow this, and opt to use Waze directly, then you will be lead to the longer and uglier road, which will waste 30mins of your time.

Guide: How To Enjoy Cebu City In A Day

    0

I have always seen the Queen City of the South as “the place that has it all.” A place of great history, a church for the pilgrims, a temple for the believers, inexpensive but taste-worthy restaurants, and the place with the oldest and smallest bastion in the Philippines, just to name a few.

Though I know that Cebu has gotten quite a “not-so-good” reputation that tourists, even locals alike will balk at the idea of wandering the streets of the city.

But amidst all the chaos of the city, Cebu continues to grind and prosper. Cebu has a lot of things to offer that could cater to every interest. To knock you off your feet, here are our recommendations should you wish to explore the beauty of the Queen City of the South in a day.

8 Cebu Fashion Tips You Can Cop For School

    1

For a lot of students, summer has already ended and the sad reality has struck us. We have to go back to waking up early and going home with never-ending homeworks and projects onhand. But more than this reality, there is something we’re all excited about – going back to school in style!

Another school year is about to start and we, girls, know that it is really difficult to come up with a stylish yet comfortable and age-appropriate outfit that we can wear to class everyday. If you’re stressing about dressing up everyday, there is so much inspiration to go around and keep that headache at bay! To help you, here are 8 key pieces that you can also incorporate into your daily school looks.

No uniform? No problem! Sugbo has got you all covered.

    1. SHIRT DRESSES

If you are in for a long day in university, let your skin breathe with a loose and casual dress. Shirt dresses will always be our savior if we cannot find matching tops and bottoms when we’re running late for class and look effortlessly chic.

    2. PLAIN BLACK or WHITE TEE

A plain black or white tee paired will never go out of style. Whether you opt to pair it with a blue or black jeans, it will still be pretty useful on your carefree days when you just want to chill while still wanting to look fab.

    3. DISTRESSED JEANS

Denim will always and forever be everything! The classic distressed jeans and button down shirt or plain tee combo will be perfect for those who want to ace that “no-nonsense” look. But make sure you pair it with your fave sneakers or statement footwear then, dial 100% attitude.

    4. DENIM JUMPSUIT

Sometimes, schools have more relaxed dresscodes, or otherwise. But if your school is the former, this one will be great for you. A denim jumpsuit will surely make you a campus head-turner in a snap!

    5. PASTEL PIECES

Some girls opt to strictly stick to feminine pieces all school year long and don’t get me wrong, you can go feminine all the way. Get a pastel-colored peplum blouse and pear it with great-fitting jeans. You can layer your top with a cardigan too for an easy-breezy day in school.

    6. CULOTTES

Yes, people say that this is by far one of the most unflattering bottoms for this will make you shorter (if you’re short) and healthier (if you’re a plus-size) but hey, these are very comfortable to wear and a great alternative to skirts. Just make sure you pair it with a great fitting shirt and your pair of trusty white sneakers.

    7. PLAID PANTS

Who said school OOTD’s can’t be cooler than a pair of skinny jeans? Ditch your usual denim skinny jeans and opt for a pair of plaid pants. Pair it with the basic white or black tee and make a statement with your shoes.
