UNESCO hails Cebu City as new “Creative City of Design”

0

Cebu City has done it again.

The Queen city of the South never ceases to amaze as it was recently designated as one of the world’s “Creative City of Design” by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Cebu City has made clear of its goal to be included in the list of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network (UCCN) and has bid for the nomination during the Cebu Design Week (CDW) 2019.

The city now has a global recognition of its creative industry with “Sustainable Development” at its core.

“The member cities that form part of the Network come from all continents and regions with different income levels and populations. They work together towards a common mission: placing creativity and the creative economy at the core of their urban development plans to make cities safe, resilient, inclusive and sustainable, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” – UNESCO

Creativity doesn’t only mean the aesthetics or physical attributes of the city but the designing of a city where there’s significant cultural heritage, a diverse and vibrant society, use of these creative potentials and possibilities for economic development, and a safe environment.

“Cebu has a deeply rooted and flourishing creative ecosystem and that “we deserve a place in the world’s design map.” – Josefin Hey, CDW marketing co-chair

Cebu City was hailed along with other 65 cities with a total of 246 cities in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

Life4Cut: Korean self studio in Cebu City

Pretty. There is no other word better to describe this new Korean self studio, the Life4Cut.

Originally from the trend-setter country of South Korea, this Instagrammable place can now be found here in the Queen City of the South.

The interior is exploding in pink, and not the pink that hurts the eyes, but that adorable shade that is just so cute. Everything it touches and surrounds just pops with positive vibes, naturally influencing the people with giddy charm, cute feels and pretty pictures.

The aesthetics will remind you of those light romantic Korean dramas we love so much like Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo and Touch Your Heart.

What’s more is that they even have a restaurant, not the usual samgyup, a legit Korean resto named Kokio.

They have must-try’s like

  • Dakganjeong (Korean fried chicken)
  • Bungeoppang (fish-shaped pastry)
  • Ade (flavored sparkling water)

Rates

  • Photobooth: ₱100 (2 copies)
  • Food range: ₱25 – ₱160
  • *Dine in their restaurant and get the picture-taking for FREE.

As we all know, when planning the best staycation experience, there are three things we need to consider: 1.) The place you will be staying in and the accommodations it provides; 2.) Nordtropic Resort and Residences Mactan Cebu

Get to know more about Fort San Pedro, the Philippines’ Oldest Fort

In the bustling city of Cebu, a fortress has stood and continues to stand to the ever-changing time.

Built by the Spaniards under Miguel López de Legazpi, Fort San Pedro is the oldest fort in the Philippines nestled in Cebu City. It is said that the original fort was made out of wood, but as a repel to Muslim raiders, it was then changed to stones. Fort San Pedro is also coined to be the oldest triangular bastion fort in the Philippines.

Fort San Pedro Cebu City (2)

The triangular-shaped Fort San Pedro is located inside Plaza Independencia, with two sides facing the sea and the third side fronting the land. Though the date of her construction is uncertain, it is certain, however, that the fort underwent major renovations in the late 19th century to help improve the beauty of Cebu.

Today, Fort San Pedro has a museum that displays the legacies of the Spanish government; documents, paintings, and sculptures. Much more, the spacious lawn of Fort San Pedro is often used for celebrations (with special permits of course) like birthdays, weddings, programs, and parties to name a few.

Though considered to be the oldest, Fort San Pedro, to preserve its history and beauty, is under the care of the Cebu City government and is considered as a historical park under City Executive Order no. 08-87 of February 08, 2008 (Plaza Independencia – Fort San Pedro Interim Policy and advisory Board PIFSIPAB).

Chances are, you’ve been here when you were younger. If so, feed that nostalgia and come back to the experience of wilderness.
