One thing I love about being a Filipino is having the “community spirit”. No matter what issue our country is facing, we always rise above the situation – as one. Right now, we are in a crucial fight with this pandemic caused by COVID-19. The number of confirmed cases keeps on increasing which pushed President Duterte to place the whole country under the State of Calamity, hence, the lockdown.

However, despite the situation, nothing can stop the Filipinos from helping one another especially those who are greatly affected by this pandemic, and who are considered as frontliners in fighting this virus. Several celebrities and companies raised funds for the less privileged, billionaires donated bulk of their wealth to the poor, and the local government units are constantly looking for ways to provide and support our medical workers and frontliners.

If you wish to extend a helping hand but are doubtful because of the community quarantine, don’t worry because you can help by staying at home. Here’s a list of some celebrities/influencers, netizens, companies, and organizations who are raising funds for our health workers, and those who are affected by the quarantine:

1. ABS-CBN’s Pantawid ng Pag-IBIG Program

2. Sarah Lahbati-Gutierrez

Raised funds will provide urgent medical necessities as well as food and important goods for all COVID19 frontliners (health workers, military and police checkpoints), and also the PUV drivers; tricycle, jeepney, bus and taxi drivers. The fund will be used to buy all of these urgent necessities to help people in need.

For medical supplies, food donations, toiletries supplies, you can email them here:

4. National Youth Response Team

The Kaya Natin! Movement, in coordination with the Office of the Vice President, is organizing a donation and fundraising campaign for personal protective equipment (PPE) and care/food packs for health workers and frontliners fighting COVID-19.

Each PPE Daily Set Ticket consists of one N95 mask, one gown, two sets of gloves, two pieces of head covers, two sets of shoe covers and one pair of goggles. This is only good for one (1) health worker. Each Food and Care Pack Ticket will help one health worker/frontliner per day.

All donors will receive an electronic ticket from our ticketing platform as proof of donation to the Kaya Natin! Movement. Ticket2Me has waived its service fees for this campaign but third-party payment gateway service fees will apply. These service fees are charged by the system’s various payment partners including: the credit card processing bank, PayPal, GCash, 7-Eleven, MLhuillier, Cebuana Lhuillier or ECPay.

In addition, they will receive free communication top-ups from telecommunication leaders Globe and PLDT-Smart.

The GrabBayanihan Car will start with 100 volunteer driver-partners, following official approval from the IATF.

Interested health workers are encouraged to approach their hospital administrators to request for the GrabBayanihan Car service for the entire hospital. Taylor Swift donates $3,000 to each fan affected by the CoVID-19

To someone who has kept mum about a scandal involving her for years, braving the world’s judgment isn’t something that she worries.

Taylor Swift, an angel that she is, was more worried about how her fans have been struggling to cope with COVID-19. Amidst the latest controversy that she’s been involved in, Taylor, being on the trending topics on Twitter, also deserves to trend again for all the right reasons.

Taylor has been pledging to her fans $3,000 to aid them during this crisis. Fans have been sharing their dilemmas on Twitter, Tumbler, and any other form where they could possibly reach Taylor and she has been humbly helping as many people as she can.

Below are some of the tweets of Taylor’s fans whom she have helped:

Apart from helping her fans, Taylor has also been helping some charities in their battle against COVID-19.

In this time of crisis, Taylor was selfless to have pledged more than explaining herself and making people understand. May we all be the same, may we all look at what really matters now. Let’s help one another rise above this crisis.

Guidelines: Cebu now under Enhanced Community Quarantine

It’s official.

Cebu Province, including independent cities – Cebu City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City, has been placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Local Government Officials have already announced and signed the respective Executive Orders issuing the Enhanced Community Quarantine and its supporting information.

What is an Enhanced Community Quarantine?

Under “general community quarantine”, people are generally limited to “accessing basic necessities and work” while uniformed personnel and quarantine officers are present at border points.

The second level is called the “enhanced community quarantine” which generally means:

  • Strict home quarantine (going out for no valid reason is strictly not allowed)
  • Suspended public transportation (may vary per city)
  • Food and health services will be regulated
  • Arriving international flights are strictly not allowed. Departing flights are still allowed.
  • More uniformed personnel (with the help of AFP and PNP) will help implement the ECQ.

NOTE: The specific guidelines of the Cebu province and the individual cities in Cebu (Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City) may differ.

Banks, ATM machines, supermarkets, and pharmacies will still be open. Government offices will still continue to operate, as well as other private companies in the food and beverages industry, medicine, banks, telecos, and BPOs but with a minimum number of employees.

Effectivity:

  • Cebu Province – Effective today as stated by Gov. Gwen Garcia
  • Cebu City – 12:00 NN, March 28, 2020 until 12:00NN of April 28, 2020 or unless sooner lifted or withdrawn
  • Mandaue City – 12:01 AM, March 29, 2020
  • Lapu-Lapu City – 12:01 AM, March 29, 2020

How to get a quarantine / ECQ pass?

Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) passes are for free and not for sale. One pass is allocated per household.

The pass should be presented when you’re outside your house to buy basic necessities in behalf of your family or when out for work.

There are two (2) options to get your ECQ pass:

  • Door-to-door delivery: May vary. Some municipalities or cities will be delivering your passes directly to your house. Distribution usually takes within 3 days.
  • Barangay Hall: In most cases, you will need to get it from the barangay hall.

In Cebu City, there are four (4) different color types of ECQ passes:

  • RED Pass: for Government Officials
  • WHITE Pass: for Crisis Management Team and frontliners
  • BLUE Pass: for NON-Cebu City Residents
  • GREEN Pass: for Cebu City Residents

NOTE: This page will be regularly updated as local government units further specify the guidelines. Make sure to bookmark this page, or follow Sugbo.ph on Facebook.

“We know that some of the frontliners are our very own, so we brought the CIT feels closer to them”

Spreading fake news faces up to P1 million fine or 2-month jail time amid CoVID-19

This is certainly not the right time to joke and spread fake news.

The Philippines’ law enforcement agencies will run after the sources of false information about the novel coronavirus disease (CoVID-19) on social media and if found will be fined with up to P1 million or jail time of two months. This is under the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act” recently signed by President Duterte.

“We appeal to our countrymen not to listen to any false news or untrue information designed not only to mislead but also to create panic and anxiety.”

Salvador Panelo, Presidential Spokesperson

This is also a reminder for all of us to follow Ms. Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach’s advice, “Think before you click”.

The specific “offenses” that would be penalized under the law in the Senate Bill No. 1418 are:

“Individuals or groups creating, perpetuating, or spreading false information regarding the COVID-19 crisis on social media and other platforms.”

“Such information having no valid or beneficial effect on the population, and are clearly geared to promote chaos, panic, anarchy, fear, or confusion; and those participating in cyber incidents that make use or take advantage of the current crisis situation to prey on the public through scams, phishing, fraudulent emails, or other similar acts.”

Okada pledges P50 million aid amid CoVID-19 crisis

We have yet another private institution standing side-by-side with the government in our rally against COVID-19.

Okada Manila, a luxury casino resort and hotel in Manila, pledged P50M through the Okada Foundation.

With the continuous plead of our medical personnel for support, Okada Foundation adhered to the calling of helping our frontliners. Okada Manila will be donating P25M to the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) and another P25M to the Philippine Heart Center (PHC).

With the continuous rising of cases in the nation, we need more philanthropists and companies to help in aiding our medical personnel so they would be able to continue healing our patients.

Okada Foundation said that the donation would be used by the hospitals to purchase needed items in their combat against COVID-19.

“Okada Manila stands united with all medical frontliners whose selfless acts of service help keep the nation safe,”

With the never-ending support of generous individuals, foundations, and companies, may more of the aforementioned be inspired to help the nation.

Cebuano band ‘The Sundown’ releases new single ‘UwU’

After all the negative news we’ve been hearing, it’s high time we take a break and read something new.

If all that you’ve ever done since the home quarantine period was listen to music, you’ve got something new for your playlist.

The Sundown Cebu

The Sundown, a Cebuano band, aptly named because of their music suited for playing during sunsets, will be releasing a new single “UwU” on March 26 on all streaming platforms. Though the song was previously written during 2018, it is only now that the song has been ready for release.

The song “UwU” is perfect for the home-quarantine period because it’s about reminiscing all the good and bad moments you have spent with someone. This song claims to flash back all the memories down the line so make sure you set your volume at high.

The Sundown members:

  • Aaron Domingo (vocalist)
  • Vincent James Eco (guitarist)
  • Gino Rosales (guitarist)
  • Alden Panes (drummer)
  • Luigi Balazo (bassist)

With all that is happening around us, it could get overwhelming. Let’s all take a step back, collect our thoughts, reminisce, breathe, smile, pray, and listen to good Cebuano music.
