One of the best sightings to behold in the south are of those beautiful centuries-old acacia trees in Carcar City, Cebu.
They seem to embrace the road, overlooking all travelers, giving them shade and fresh air. Threatening to cut down these historical trees for road widening was unacceptable and have resulted to an uproar by Cebuanos and netizens alike.
A feat that would go down in history, as one of the highlights of the good side of social media, making every Cebuano and human proud, then took place. “11 thousand strong”, 11 thousand signatures through online petitions saved these trees from destruction.
The DPWH Region 7 says century-old trees in Perrelous, Carcar, Cebu will be preserved. Instead of cutting them down, a new road will be opened alongside those trees (parallel road).
The battle was won but the debate and the defense raised by those who fought for them should be given highlight.
“We are mobile. The trees are not.” – Mily Joy Pactores, the one who initiated the online petition.
This one powerful statement caught my attention as it calls out the species known to be the most intelligent. Us. We can adapt. We can move. We can always find ways. We are supposed to be the “Ents”, a character from Tolkien’s books, the shepherds of the forest, the protector of the trees. Not only the trees, but the environment in general.
Drivers were also called out by the petitioners as it has always been their responsibility to drive safely and carefully. (One of the reasons stated by the government for the planned cutdown was road safety.) This is only a small step but of great impact in the awareness of protecting mother earth.

It’s always good for us to unwind a bit from the
stressful life of 9 to 5 jobs, yet these days we have little time to actually

Cebu is known for many things: rich culture, amazing & friendly people, vibrant feasts, irresistible local food, and beautiful attractions. But more than anything else, one thing that usually first comes to mind when Cebu is mentioned — beaches.
While Cebu has so many popular beaches, there’s this newly discovered public white beach that trended on social media lately. This is the Maravilla White Beach in Tabuelan, which offers an escape not just from the city life, but also from the noise and crowds of the usual getaway destinations.
The best part? There’s no entrance fee for now (though there are some resorts or entry points that will charge a small fee).
It’s basically a public beach — like the ones in Moalboal (Basdaku) and Badian (Lambug) where you can freely enjoy the pristine white beach under the heat of the sun and even go “beach camping”. All at no cost, but with one rule: LEAVE NO TRACE.
If you plan to stay overnight and want to have a more comfortable sleep, there are several affordable beachfront resorts including:

I’ve been hearing a lot of stories and invitations to try this famous “Tuslob Buwa”. At first, I refused to give it a shot for sanitation reasons. But I changed my mind after tasting just one dip. It was indeed a different taste of bubbles.
Tuslob Buwa is one of the many striking food you can find in the streets of Cebu. It is believed to originate in Brgy. Pasil where residents find it as their daily source of income. And it is where I had my first Tuslob Buwa experience.
Basically, Tuslob Buwa (to dip into bubbles) is composed of pig brain, pork liver or intestines (can be optional), onions, oil, soy sauce or fish sauce, and other assorted seasonings. All of these ingredients will be put together in a pan until it boils. This will be best served with your puso (hanging rice) that will be dip into the pan, as its name suggests. It is economical since you only get to pay for the puso you consumed.
You must have heard about stores that offer Tuslob Buwa where you can enjoy it yourself or with people you know and “trust”. And where’s best to try it than AZUL in Cebu City?
Azul is now making a name on this industry, most especially after getting featured on Netflix’s Street Food Asia. They provide you your own set in preparation for the cooking, with guidelines on how to cook on your own. But if you don’t know how to cook Tuslob Buwa, just ask for assistance from the staff.
Tuslob Buwa Rates:
1 Set with 12-pc Puso (hanging rice)
Regular: ₱150
Special: ₱180 with chicharon bits, egg, roasted garlic
Open 24/7 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), Azul is located along Gorordo Ave, Cebu City — few meters away from Golden Peak Hotel, before CIC.
With that, you might consider including this bubble experience in your to-do list when you’re in Cebu. So as for me and my taste buds, Tuslob Buwa is good. Dip in!
Exact location: Taft Business Center, Gorordo Ave, Cebu City.
BY JEEPNEY: Ride any jeepney going to Gorordo Ave or Lahug. Inform the driver to drop you off at “Azul Tuslob Buwa” near UP Lahug Campus. These are the jeepneys that will pass through Azul: – 04C from Colon via Ramos – 04I from Colon via Jones
BY CAR / GRAB: Just navigate via Waze or Google Maps and pin your location to “Azul Gorordo”. Ample parking space is available.
Mention these two words and we’re

It’s September
now and as expected, it’s a rainy month. It’s a season that can easily shift
one’s moods and daily plans. Many have different ways of coping with the
season, but for me, personally, one good way is treating yourself with a good
bowl of ramen.
It is true, that most Cebuanos have acquired a taste when it comes to ramen. This Japanese dish has captured the Cebuano palate as various ramen shops have been popping in the area in the past few years. Here are the top 6 ramen shops in Cebu.
1. Ramen Yushoken
Ramen Yushoken is always on the critics’ list when it comes to the
top ramen shops here in the city. The reason for that is that Koji Tashiro, a
ramen champion where his recipe was the main basis for this restaurant’s
flavorful ramen making it a topnotch choice.
A little history in the shop’s name, ‘yusho’ translates to
‘champion’ while ‘ken’ is Japanese for ‘house’.
Location: Oakridge Business Park, AS Fortuna, Mandaue City, Cebu
2. Hamakaze Dining and Bar
For those who are still planning to try ramen for the first time, Hamakaze Ramen is perfect since it offers a good selection of ramen dishes. They serve traditional ramen and at the same time, their prices are reasonably affordable.
Location: AS Fortuna, Mandaue City, Cebu — across Lightsite Parc / The Space.
Tori Paitan Syo-Yu Ramen – 290
Tori Paitan Ebi Ramen – P340
Tori Karaage – P230
Gyoza – P150
3. Rai Rai Ken
This authentic ramen house is considered as one of the oldest here
in the city, as they opened shop in 1993. Having existed for more than two
decades, this proves that they are definitely one of the best ramen stores
around.
Tongara basically derived their name by combining tonkotsu (pork bone broth) and torigara (chicken bone broth). The two are actually their main secrets in serving delicious ramens, as patrons keep coming back for more.
Location: Escario Central, N. Escario Street, Capitol Site, Cebu City
5. Barikata Ramen Bar
Hardcore ramen fans are quite picky, that is why Barikata Ramen Bar
is perfect for them. By definition, ‘barikata’ is a Japanese word used to refer
the type of noodles used in the ramen being served, and translates to ‘very
hard’. Barikata is very particular when it comes to their ingredients as well,
only serving with the freshest ingredients.
