Along with the panic of the spread of the
novel corona virus was the thought of not having access to its testing kits.
Worry no more, because 30,000 (out of 40,000) test kits arrived in Cebu from South Korea.
There is now a total of 30,100 novel coronavirus test kits for the Visayas, along with the 100 from the DOH main office in Manila. Its distribution will be divided into two, within Cebu City and the rest are for testing PUIs across the Visayas.
These test kits are in the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City (VSMMC) as it is the only COVID-19 proficient molecular testing facility at the sub national level in the Visayas.
Prioritized patients for testing would be
people who are manifesting influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute
respiratory infections (SARI).
The purchase and shipment of the kits was facilitated by the Office of the Presidential Assistant of the Visayas (OPAV) headed by Michael Lloyd Dino, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary.
20,000 test kits was purchased by Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella for VSMMC and another 20,000 test kits purchased by President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bong Go for the utilization of the whole LGUs in the Visayas.

As more COVID-19 cases are identified in the Philippines, companies have been working their ways around to ensure the safety of their employees.
Some companies allowed their employees to work from home while others are mandated to file a leave. On the other hand, there are also employees who are still working to ensure the safety of the company they are working for. Not new to the industry is SM.
Apart from donating much to help combat the pandemic by waiving tenant rentals, donating protective equipment, testing kits, and supplies worth P100million, SM never neglects her employees. Thus, assuring employee compensation and providing financial assistance to its frontliners.
SM assured its employees their regular compensation while its frontliners, the janitorial staff and security guards will be receiving an Emergency Financial Assistance during the Enhanced Community Quarantine.
The assistance states:
All employees will receive their regularly scheduled salaries during the ECQ period without deductions made against their vacation and sick leaves;
The company’s front liners, who comprise the skeletal workforce, will, in addition, be provided with premium pay;
All Security Guards and Janitorial staff will receive financial assistance of PHP5,000 for the period.
It is focused on helping these key resources so that they in turn can be of service to others.
Furthermore, SM has also been providing its frontliners with protective gear, meals, and transportation since the start of ECQ.
“In these trying times, we are in unchartered territories. Let’s be one with each other, united in the spirit of service. Let’s be mindful of our front liners and help with their need to be alert so they can continue to do their best in working for the safety and health of our communities,”
said Hans T. Sy on behalf of the Sy family.
Let us all stand in solidarity with the whole nation and citizenry and combat against COVID-19.

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak,
religious sectors were prompted to look for alternative means of worship to
avoid public contact.
For the Catholic Church, live
streaming of Eucharistic masses were implemented for everyone to celebrate and
worship the Divine Liturgy.
Therefore, to make our
participation in online Masses more meaningful, Fr. Drans Nolasco, SDB,
prepared these recommendations for us to follow:
1. Prepare an Altar
To set the tone, prepare an altar
with a candle that is lit. Make sure that you are of proper disposition before
beginning. Always be reminded to take three mindful deep breaths and focus.
2. Dress Appropriately
Though you’re only attending your
mass at home, make sure you dress up properly. Just because you’re at home
doesn’t mean you can wear your PJ’s. Be in your best Sunday’s dress.
3. Remove Distractions
This includes turning your mobile
phones off, or in silent mode. It could also be putting all your gadgets aside.
4. Pray the Act of Spiritual Communion
Because there is an absence of
the physical communion, you are advised to pray the Act of Spiritual Communion
by heart. Make sure your heart understands it more than your mind.
ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus,
I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament
I love You above all things
And I long for You in my soul
Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally,
Come at least spiritually into my heart
As though You have already come
I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You,
Never permit me to be separated from You, Amen.
5. Pray the Oratio Imperata
If the Oratio Imperata is not part of the mass, you are encouraged to pray it after the holy mass. Pray for everyone’s safety.
6. Reflect
Reflect on how God is teaching us
to love. With the global crisis we are facing today, may we all be reminded of
how we have fallen short and
reflect on our own actions.
Most of the time, we only realize the value of something only when we are deprived of it. With the suspension of the Holy Mass, may this also help us cultivate the yearning to actually receive Jesus in physical communion, soon. This, we could only pray for now.

Amidst all the negative things brought about by the pandemic COVID-19, we are still seeing a silver-lining because it has brought and is bringing out the best in people.
We have read articles about the billionaires, conglomerates, celebrities, even small companies sharing their part of the bargain by donating protective gears, water, food, and medicine. One buffet restaurant is no stranger to helping because Vikings is also joining the positive bandwagon.
Vikings, known for being one of the best buffet restaurants, is also giving away free food to the malls’ front-liners. As their way of gratitude, they are distributing food packs to SM City Cebu’s security guards and sanitation personnel.
Thank you to all
the frontliners who have been spearheading our combat against this pandemic and
thank you, Vikings for helping them.
May we also be inspired to help in our own little ways.

SMC President Ramon Ang said.
“This is safe, sufficient, and nutritious food for the hardest-hit families facing hunger as a result of the COVID-19 crisis,”

May we also do our part as citizens of this nation. Let us pray for one another and do the littlest that we can to win this battle which is to stay at home and stay safe.

After reading articles about how
bad COVID-19 has been to the whole world, we can’t help but burst with all the
good deeds we are receiving from kind-hearted individuals. Whether big or
small, everyone’s contribution to fight coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is very
much appreciated.
To fight the spread of the
pandemic, work and classes are suspended, including mass transportation
facilities. Curfews across the city is imposed and a more strict home
quarantine is enforced on everyone.
With this, livelihoods of the
Cebuanos have been greatly affected, and we’re glad we have generous
individuals who have donated whopping sums to combat COVID-19.
We have enlisted the Philippine
Billionaires and Conglomerates who have donated test kits, personal protective
equipment, food, and money for our fight against this pandemic.
• SM Group
Devoting themselves to our health
workers, SM Group pledged 100 million pesos to aid public hospitals; Philippine
General Hospital and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
SM Group will be donating
personal protective equipment; gowns, face masks, hoods, shoe covers, and even
visors.

• THE GOKONGWEI BROTHERS FOUNDATION (GBF)
The GBF has committed a
P100million fund to supply personal protective equipment to our frontliners,
the health workers.
Along with the GBF, Robinson’s
Land Corporation will also fund the acquisition of the COVID-19 test kits.
Also, the Universal Robina
Corporation, will be providing coffee, water bottles, snacks, and noodles to
our health workers.
• AYALA CORPORATION
Brothers Jaime and Fernando Zobel
de Ayala have committed to a whopping 2.4 billion-peso response package to
support their employees. This will cover their wages, bonuses, leave
conversions, and loan deferments, making all of their employees compensated
during the whole quarantine period.
Moreover, the rents for the
merchants in the closed Ayala Malls branches will also be waived.
Ayala Healthcare Holdings (AC
Health) also donated 10,000 N95 masks to public hospitals in Luzon, allowing
the much-affected areas to recover much faster.
• SAN MIGUEL CORPORATION (SMC)
We know that some cities have
already been losing their supplies because of the hoarding, SMC will be working
toward public food security and donating food and ethyl alcohol, especially to
the poor and our front-liners.
SMC President Ramon Ang also
assured all SMC employees that they will be properly compensated during the
enhanced community quarantine.
After the sever alcohol shortage,
Ginebra San Miguel, will be manufacturing ethyl alcohol and will be donating 20
liter containers and 1000 liter tanks for medical use.
• MANNY PACQUIAO FOUNDATION
The Manny Pacquiao Foundation, in
association with The Jack Ma Foundation are providing 50,000 test kits to help
combat COVID-19.
• VILLAR FAMILY
The Villar Family have donated disinfecting apparatus, 200,000 face masks, and drinking water through the Department of Health (DOH).
The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, San Lazaro Hospital, Lung Center of the Philippines, Sta. Ana Hospital, Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium, Philippine Heart Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Rizal Medical Center and Las Piñas General Hospital will receive the first batch of donations, according to the family.
We could only hope more and more
people and organizations will be able to help the whole nation with her combat
against this pandemic.
Others
• BELA PADILLA (Celebrity / Fund-raising campaign)
Though unlike the aforementioned,
Bella did a fundraising campaign to help the street vendors in Luzon. Bela
expressed her sympathy for the street vendors who are greatly affected by the
community enhanced quarantine prompting her to do the fundraising campaign:
“Pagkain para sa Bayan.”
This fundraising campaign of hers
has gained praises among Filipinos and reached a whopping 3.3-million pesos
help from the generous Filipinos. Filipino celebrities Marvin Agustin and
Matteo Guidicelli were among the many celebrities who lent their helping hands.
To the whole country, stay strong! To the Filipinos, be healthy! To everyone, it goes without saying, but, THANKS A LOT!

There are a lot of different ways
to keep everyone productive inside their own abodes.
With the scare of COVID-19
pandemic, you are unexpectedly stuck at home, with nothing in mind. Fret not!
We are all in the same boat. We are all stuck at home for an unexpected period
of time.
Having said such, since you have
reached this page you’re either too bored or you’re losing your resources.
Whatever it may be, you’re just in the right page. Continue reading.
1. APPLY FOR AN ONLINE JOB
If you’ve been stuck at home for
quite some time now and you’re almost running out of resources, there’s always
a way around it.
Should you have access to a laptop or personal computer with internet access, you should consider applying for an online job. You could either apply as an online teacher, a freelance marketing manager, a freelance writer or graphic artist, or even a software engineer. Whatever it is, we all want to make the most out of our times, yes?
Websites you can consider:
upwork.com for freelance writers, web developers, and other online jobs
Let us all be reminded that there
are plenty of exercises to do sans gym. You can even download some apps to help
you in your fitness journey.
Remember, the best way to fight
COVID-19 is to have a healthy lifestyle and what better way to be healthier
than working out, right? So put your game faces on and hit that spot!
3. TIDY YOUR OWN HOME
If the last time you cleaned your
abode was last month, girl, you gotta level up! We need to fight COVID-19 and
we have to start in our own homes.
Get rid of the harmful dust, dirt, and germs so you’ll be dust-free and virus-free.
4. START GARDENING
More than saving bucks from the
produce you could get from your garden, studies also say that gardening is good
for our mental health. Gardening is said to help in treating depression and
anxiety.
With the COVID-19 anxiety
creeping into us, we know this could be a great alternative. Don’t worry,
gardening doesn’t require you a big garden to plant, you could get a pot and
start from there.
5. TAKE SOME REST
If you’re a busy bee like me, can
you still recall the last time you took a nap in between work and class? Yes,
barely.
After everything you’ve been
doing for the day, you deserve some rest. Who doesn’t? We all deserve one of
life’s greatest pleasures.
6. MEDITATE
Meditation is the art of doing
nothing, which is pretty ironic since it changes everything. This is the time
to heal your spirit and to find your inner peace.
Do a daily meditation and never
cease praying for everyone’s safety.
7. READ A BOOK / AN ARTICLE
If you have a lot of archived
books on your shelves, now is the best time to flip those pages. Dust it off
and you’ll be good to go.
You can read about your old
books, or even read articles about this pandemic. You can read online articles
about COVID-19 and how to prevent such pandemic. It pays to always be
knowledgeable.
8. PLAY/BOND WITH FAM
If you’re with your family, you
can play with your whole family, take out you board games. You can even play
hide and seek with your nieces and nephews.
Have fun! Even though we’re
facing a crisis, it is important to bond and enjoy staying indoors.
9. SPREAD AWARENESS
While you’re on your phones for
social media, it is also better to spread authentic information about this
pandemic.
Let us all use this time to help our fellows with the information we’ve scavenged through the internet. Let’s help save one another.
10. LEARN A SKILL
Now is the time to learn all those skills you’ve been planning to have even before the community quarantine. You can learn how to play the guitar, the piano or any instrument you want, learn to prepare home-cooked meals, learn another language, and many more skills.

With the COVID-19 global scare,
everyone is just as careful as everyone else.
From hoarding alcohol and hand
sanitizers to panic buying groceries, it is without a doubt that this pandemic
has struck us all in a bad way. Aside
from the usual alcohol and hand sanitizers, we are all aware of how
hand-washing could be of great help to each of us. Though alcohol and hand
sanitizers come in handy, it is still advisable and economical to wash our hands with soap and water.
But, what if we are outdoors?
What if we have no access to a sink?
Fret not because a man from
Africa has been applauded by netizens for coming up with a brilliant idea to
help his neighbors in his own simple ways.
The old man, believed to be from
Mzansi, used an old metal drum and converted it into a smart, clean, and
portable wash basin.
Like other netizens, we also believe
that converting an old metal drum into clean wash basins could help in our
combat against COVID-19.
We could only hope that everyone could take the initiative and pick up an inspiration or two from this old man that a trash could be our treasure too. May we be reminded to always wash our hands with soap and water at all times.

Department of Transportation
(DOTr) implements “no backrider policy” for all motorcycles.
The aforementioned policy is in
lieu to the Social Distancing and Community Quarantine implemented by the
government. The “no back-rider policy” prohibits all motorcycle
users, including private motorcycle users to have a back-rider.
“We have to take into context that the DOTr has made the move in a national perspective. Mao na siya nga ang motorcycle taxi, tanan gi-suspend. No back-rider policy was not issued for motorcycle taxis only. It applies to all,”
LTO-7 Regional Director Victor Caindec
Though backriders are prohibited, Secretary Michael L. Dino and Land Transportation Officer (LTO) 7 Regional Director Victor Caindec both agreed that family members should be allowed to back-ride as long as he/she is related to the driver of the motorcycle.
Should you be the husband/wife and son/daughter of the driver and both are living in the same household, you are allowed to be on the same motorcycle given that you present an Identification Card as proof.
We hope that even if immediate family members are allowed to ride the motorcycle, may we all be reminded that staying at the comforts of your home is still advised. Unless it is necessary to go out, please stay at home.
