World Health says drinking alcohol would make you more vulnerable to Coronavirus

0
beers make you more vulnerable

Contrary to what most have believed, drinking alcohol would actually make you vulnerable to Coronavirus.

Unlike the trending post about how alcohol could protect you from the pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) says otherwise. As a matter of fact, WHO wants to keep your alcoholic beverages in your cupboards for later.

“Alcohol consumption is associated with a range of communicable and noncommunicable diseases and mental health disorders, which can make a person more vulnerable to COVID-19,”

– World Health Organization

“In particular, alcohol compromises the body’s immune system and increases the risk of adverse health outcomes. Therefore, people should minimize their alcohol consumption at any time, and particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic,”

Safe to say, alcoholic beverages couldn’t save you from this pandemic, unlike ethyl / isopropyl alcohol.

Better to hold your horses and do the feasting once this is all over.

Horses have always been a part of the Cebuano culture. Even now, the Kalesa’s are still used as a means of transportation in some parts of Cebu.

But did you know that a racetrack once stood in the now known as Brgy. Hipodromo?

Horse aficionados flock in the racetrack known before as Hippodrome. Horse race watching and betting were one of the main entertainment of the old times. It was part of the Cebuano lifestyle and the Filipino lifestyle in general.

Shaped as a horse racing track as seen from above (aerial shot by John Ray Aligato of The Island Nomad), the starting point of the race was near the entrance along M. J. Cuenco Avenue.  The Pacific Foundry served as the clubhouse where people watched and bet on horses.

Hippodrome closed down as horse racing was no longer profitable.

The barangay was then formed when a huge fire hit Carreta and T. Padilla in the late 1950s and made “Hippodrome” as a relocation site.

The place later became an official barangay and was renamed Hipodromo.

Im-Drunk-I-Love-You-Photo-Gallery-07

You can never go drunk during quarantine, but you can always be in-love.

With the giving away of free e-books to the public, movies are also now being given away for free. I am saying ‘given’ because it is for free.

To keep everyone entertained amid the pandemic, TBA Studios has given the fans of Paolo Avelino and Maja Salvador a treat.

I’m Drunk I Love You, a local movie starring the aforementioned actors is now available for FREE STREAMING on YouTube.

If quarantine has made you confess to your long-time crush , but didn’t end well, this one is for you. This film revolves around an unrequited love, though this is not what it is all about.

This film was inspired by Director Habac’s late night drinking sessions hence, the title and the plot. But because we are still placed under quarantine and a nationwide liquor ban, let’s settle with a glass of juice, shall we?

Where to watch it for free?

Just go to the YouTube app or website and search for “I’m Drunk I Love You”.

On April 24, 2020, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan officially announced the extension of the City’s Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to May 18, 2020 or “until further notice”.

Lapu-Lapu City’s ECQ started on March 29, 2020 and is supposed to end this coming Tuesday, April 28. But the mayor decided to extend it, up to May 18 in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s ECQ extension in Luzon and in some parts of the country.

Photo from Lapu-Lapu City PIO

As of April 25, 2020, Lapu-Lapu City already has a total of 28 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

With the increasing number of cases, the Mayor announced that the City will purchase additional testing kits, through the Department of Health (DOH), in preparation for mass testing in both the private and public sectors. The frontliners will be prioritized in swab testing.

Lapu-Lapu City will spend for the swab testing in the contact tracing of COVID positive cases, and testing of City employees.

For those suspected cases, guidelines of isolation facilities will be announced together with the new Executive Order of the Mayor.

Barangay officials are also allowed to initiate entry and exit points in their areas and that street closures are allowed but must be in coordination with the police.

There are now lockdowns within a 10-meter radius from houses of COVID positive patients. The City will supply food in these lockdown areas.

In the same manner, all police protocols, or security initiatives must be in coordination with the barangays.
