The room is also air-conditioned and can actually accommodate up to 6 persons, making it not only for couples but for family and friends too.

Aside from their picturesque interiors, the resort also has an infinity pool that is available for all guests. Robin’s Nesto also boasts an outdoor shower, a garden restroom all complete with an open ceiling shower as well as a deck with loft net.

HOW TO GET THERE?

Exact location: Panagatan, Brgy. Bawo, Sogod, Northern Cebu — approx. 2.5 hours away from the city.

BY BUS: From the North Bus Terminal. Look for the one heading to Sogod, and ask the driver to drop you off at Robin’s Nesto in Sogod. The place is relatively new but some drivers and conductors are already familiar of the place so ask first before hopping in the bus to make sure. The place is also near to the town market so it is easier to ask locals.

BY CAR: Navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Robin’s Nesto” in Sogod. Parking space is available.

On Sunday night, the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) released its official, consolidated data of the COVID-19 cases in the region as of August 29, 2021.

Today, the whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and the Cebu Province — recorded 530 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 708 new recoveries, and 7 new deaths. This brings Cebu’s total confirmed cases to 90,775, while the active cases increased to 13,499 (from 13,683).

Cebu’s Jerika Teodorico releases new single ‘Downtown Disco’

Every Cebuano knows how it feels to have a love-hate relationship with probably Cebu City’s most iconic street—Dalan Colon.

Lucky for us, singer-songwriter Jerika Teodorico just released her newest single Downtown Disco that will make us find our way to love (or hate, if you’re a glass-half-empty kind of person) the heart of the city even more!

Downtown Disco is the love child of Jerika’s two personal songwriting goals: to write a song with the word “Downtown” in the title, and to put it to music that’s reminiscent of her all-time favorite song—Dancing Queen.

The idea was shelved for years since its conception in 2014. It was only until 2017 when Jerika chanced upon a TV commercial that featured a “disco song that reminded me so much of ABBA” but with a rhythm guitar riff that she considered she could very well play without much struggle.

Jerika describes Downtown Disco as a “collection of stories you can dance to.” While the stories don’t exactly come from her personal experience, they were very much inspired by the people and the places the songwriter used to pass by in her daily commutes to and from Colon when she was still in college.

Sonically, the 4-minute disco-folk track was meant to be a full-fledged ABBA homage, Jerika points out, but was steered into a more youthful and modern direction with the help of co-producer Anjelo Calinawan. This was achieved by incorporating reverb on the drums, bright synths, and a “barely-there” bass track that’s “equal parts Macarena and 1989-era Taylor Swift” into the arrangement.

“What makes it a truly Jerika track, though,” Calinawan remarks, “is the acoustic guitars, and the unique way she plays the instrument. That’s what sets it apart from the usual disco pop and synth-wave songs we’re used to hearing nowadays.”

Jerika played both acoustic guitars, which were recorded by Erwin Batucan in Room Eleven Recording Studio. All other instruments were recorded and programmed by Calinawan, who also mixed and mastered the track. Downtown Disco is executive produced by Jude Gitamondoc and distributed under Vispop record label Kadasig.

On Saturday night, the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) released its official, consolidated data of the COVID-19 cases in the region as of August 28, 2021.

Today, the whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and the Cebu Province — recorded 787 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 733 new recoveries, and 48 new deaths. This brings Cebu’s total confirmed cases to 90,775, while the active cases increased to 13,683 (from 13,674).

Today, the whole island of Cebu — Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and the Cebu Province — recorded 781 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 632 new recoveries, and 71 new deaths. This brings Cebu’s total confirmed cases to 89,988, while the active cases increased to 13,674 (from 13,548).

Alcohol nights and inuman sessions will now temporarily have to be conducted at home where it’s safe.

But that doesn’t mean that we won’t have fun experimenting on tasty drinks in our own home. Well, don’t fret because we’ve got you covered mate. Your favorite soju drink will have a bit of delicious transformation as we present here some easy-to-make soju cocktails

1. Soju Bomb (Soju + Beer) & Coke

Soju bomb also known as somaek (soju + beer) is very popular and is the drink you’ll want when catching up with friends. It’s a quick way to get that buzz on and mixes well together. You can also add coke to add sweetness to your drink.

Mixture:

  • Golden ratio: 30% Soju + 70% Beer
  • Gentle and smooth: 10% Soju+ 90% Beer
  • Blackout: 50% Soju+ 50% Beer

2. Soju Latte (Soju + Coffee)

Yup. We want to get drunk but also be as awake as possible. A mixture of coffee and soju will definitely wake you up with its content and unique taste.

You can use any coffee you’d like if you have favorites. But it is recommended to use Nescafe’s coffee in can because it’s easily available at any convenience store.

Mixture:

  • 1 glass Coffee
  • 2 shots of Soju

3. Yogurt Soju (Yakult/Dutch Mill + Soju)

This is the perfect lazy evening drink. Yakult have always been our go-to drink when we were little but this time it got an upgrade adult version. Simply mix Yakult and Soju together or any yogurt drink you have available to create a sweet concoction. The yogurt drink conceals the bitter taste of the alcohol so this is a no-fail easy-to-make cocktail.

Mixture:

  • 1 Yakult
  • 2 shots of Soju

4. Fruity Soju (Pineapple/Mango/Lemon/Orange + Soju)

A refreshing cocktail for a hot day might just be what you want. Have any fruit juice that is available to you or your preferred taste and mix it with soju. Soju will cut through the acidity of the fruit juices, so the sourness doesn’t linger long on your palate. Don’t forget to pop in some ice cubes too for that thirst-quenching drink.

Mixture:

  • 1 glass Pineapple/Mango/Lemon/Orange Juice
  • 2 shots of Soju

5. Soju Melona (Melona + Soju + Sprite)

A creamy kick? We have that too. You’ve probably heard of Melona, a popular ice-cream in Korea that is famous even here in the Philippines. Pour into a cup, soju and sprite, then stir a Melona bar in until it dissolves.

Melona also comes in 4 different flavors: banana, honeydew, mango and strawberry, so you’ll have your pick.

  • 2 Melona ice cream bars
  • 1 bottle of soju
  • 1 can of Sprite

6. Energizer Soju (Soju + Gatorade + Pineapple Juice)

This drink has been going around the country known for its color which is why it earned its name blue soju. This is your drink to refuel your energy for your work-from-home. Mixing soju, Gatorade and pineapple juice may sound nasty but it is the kind of drink that grows on you.

Mixture:

  • 2 shots of soju 
  • ½ glass Gatorade 
  • 1 can pineapple juice

7. Watermelon Soju

If you’d like a blended cocktail drink then this is for you. Also called Subak Soju, this drink is made from blending watermelon with soju. You can even use the remaining watermelon shell as its bowl to drink from.

Mixture:

  • 1 Watermelon
  • 1 Bottle of Soju
  • 1 Cup of Ice

8. Mogu Soju (soju + Mogu Mogu drink+Yakult)

Who would guess that your favorite chewy drink Mogu Mogu is a great mix with soju. The presence of nata de coco in the Mogu Mogu drink creates added texture in every sip just like milktea and pearls but make it alcoholic. Add in Yakult or a strawberry milk drink to add more flavors to your drink.

Mixture:

  • ½ bottle of Mogu Mogu
  • 2 shots of Soju
  • ½ glass of yakult

9. Soju Tea (Soju+Tea)

Tea time and biscuits have never been more lit. Color your afternoon tea by brewing a pot of your favorite tea (best with white or peach tea) and adding a shot of soju. You can also add honey or lemon in the mix for rich flavors.

Fooda Saversmart to close all stores in September

The grocery store that has grown with Cebuanos is now closing after 19 years as Fooda Saversmart holds a “closing out sale” for all their branches in Cebu and “everything must go at low cost.”

The closing sale is up to September 22, 2021 and until supplies last.

Fooda currently has 5 stores built in Cebu. One of it is their largest store in Consolacion.

Cebu has a giant reserve of creativity that shows in the province’s culture, art, and of course food. Cebuanos are known to cook up creative dishes like the sour-savory combo sutukil and the signature puso or hanging rice, which comes in various shapes and is cooked without even the use of a pot.

Creativity in Cebuano cuisine does not stop at meals and rice, this also extends to snacks and desserts. One local favorite is the masareal.

Masareal is a beloved delicacy that originated in Mandaue, Cebu. It comes in the form of rectangular bars made from a mixture of finely-ground boiled peanuts, sugar or coconut syrup (latík), and water.

The bar is traditionally packaged in paper and tied with twine and when eaten, the texture is initially soft and chewy. After a second or two of chewing, it melts into a rich paste with a pop of peanut flavor. It’s easy to eat and hard to get enough of!

Indeed, most Cebuanos are already familiar with the peanut product. Even long-time visitors and frequent tourists sooner or later come to know it. While the snack is simple, it’s a clever combination of boiled peanut and sugar that creates a unique tasting treat.

Peanut is a flexible legume that is widely used, however, its common forms like pulutan, garnish, and peanut butter are all toasted or roasted and then processed. Masareal takes an unusual form of the legume – boiled! – and turns it into something outstanding.

Now, boiled peanuts are mild in taste and has a hint of earthiness that not all people appreciate. At the same time, sugar syrup can be overbearingly sweet. The ingenuity behind masareal is that these incomplete flavors are cooked together to marry their best qualities while removing their undesirable traits.

The result of this marriage is a moderately sweet snack with a distinct peanut flavor that is highly addictive!
