Native Aesthetic Heaven at Rica’s Beach Resort in San Remigio

We go to the beach to see and dip in the beautiful sea but staying in a resort entails a list of things to consider.

Photo from Rica’s Beach Resort Facebook Page

A newly opened in San Remigio is ready to take on the challenge of giving it all when it comes to a beach resort here in Cebu particularly in aesthetics.

Ricas Beach Resort boasts of aesthetic native huts, cabanas and a amazing big mango tree that is just magical at night. Their native huts are a thing of beauty as its tent-like features complements the atmosphere so well and are as modern as they can get with them being airconditioned.

And though the resort may look built for aesthetics, it is a family-oriented resort and designed to provide children and adults a memorable experience. It is equipped with both an adult pool and kiddie pool with a mini waterpark.

Sunset sessions at Rica’s Beach Resort are also quite memorable and a highlight during your stay. Lounging in the cabanas while chilling with your friends all while inhaling the sea breeze.

The restaurant and function hall in the resort are still under construction though so they don’t serve food yet which allows every guest to bring as many foods and drinks as they can for now.

Combining a family-oriented design with the beach side feature and aesthetics makes this new resort worthy of a visit.

Mandaue City to push for underground cables

There will soon be no more ‘spaghetti wires’ in sight in Mandaue City, Cebu.

Mandaue City government had a series of talks with Visayan Electric (VECO) and water, internet, and cable utility providers to place all wires and cables within the business districts or the planned urban development (PUD) areas in the city underground.

Photo from Unsplash

The officials said that the initial purpose of the underground cabling project was to beautify the city without the ‘spaghetti wires,’ but after Typhoon Odette hit the city, they realized its importance “because there will be less damage during a typhoon and the restoration of power will be quicker as the wires will not be cut.”

Photo from Philippine News Agency Official Website

According to the City Administrator in an interview with CDN Digital, the project implementation will come in phases where targets will be identified:

  • First Phase (Short-term): This period covers the promotion of the rehabilitation, construction, or restoration of utility lines within three years of the ordinance’s passage.
  • Second Phase (Medium-term): This focuses on promoting the partial implementation of underground utility line installation to be completed within a year of the ordinance’s adoption.
  • Third Phase (Long-term): This also begins three years after the ordinance’s approval, requiring affected owners or operators to adhere to the ordinance’s mandatory grounding of all utility lines.

When the super typhoon hit the island of Cebu, it took the utility providers to restore the lines. Until now, there are still several areas in the city where power has not yet been restored.

The City Government of Mandaue is considering forging a joint venture agreement with the utility providers for the plan to materialize. However, there’s no word yet on the target date of implementation.

Feeling old yet? The epic tale of ‘Chona Mae’ in Cebu 10 years ago

Every Cebuano in his/her 20s most likely knows about Chona Mae.

The one name that made everyone panic 10 years ago after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu. It was the epic tale of the misheard and misinterpreted name of Chona Mae which sounds like “Tsunami.”

May be an image of 5 people and text

From there, it was the worst pass the message game played as stories were coming up here and there like the water level was allegedly rising and that a huge wave will soon hit downtown Cebu.

People were running on the streets, some walking miles to higher ground, people in their homes were preparing to evacuate, the screaming of everyone, the last calls to their loved ones, it was total chaos. And all that just because someone was calling out for their daughter “Chona Mae.”

Every time this story comes up, everyone just laughs out loud because this situation is just too funny when you look back on what everyone did just to be disappointed by that mistake.

And as we remember the 10th anniversary of the “Chona Mae” event, we look back into the comments shared on Facebook of the netizens’ experiences on the epic scare.

Philippines likely to transition COVID-19 Pandemic to Endemic this February

On Wednesday, the presidential adviser for COVID-19 response Vince Dizon said that the country will start its transition from a state of pandemic to an endemic approach this February.

The National Task Force Against COVID-19 is now formulating their pandemic exit plan. As the vaccination rate continues to go up, the government is at 100 percent to support this recommendation.

Metro Manila | Photo from Unsplash
Photo from Unsplash

“I think we will begin with the transition this February. We just need to bring down the cases to the levels that we had in late last year, below 1,000 cases per day, then we can begin the process of transitioning from a pandemic framework to a more endemic framework,”

Vince Dizon, Presidential Adviser for COVID-19

However, Joey Concepcion, presidential adviser for entrepreneurship, suggested to only remove alert levels in areas with high vaccination rate.

On Tuesday, the daily COVID-19 case tally was under 10,000 since the infections started to spike this year.

Photo from Unsplash

The decision to ease travel restrictions and quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated travelers, including the proposed opening of the country to tourists are just some of the decisions made to support the shift to this endemic approach.

Once this pushes through, this coronavirus scare would then be taken like other endemic diseases – influenza, tuberculosis, and cholera.

Proposed ‘Workers’ Rest Law’ bans employers from contacting employees after office hours

Burnouts are as true as any fact there is and most of the time it’s not even just the work but the bosses itself that gives the extra push of pressure.

We know you all know what we mean. So when working hours is over we expect work to be over and left behind as well but that is not the case for a lot of employees.

Photo from Unsplash

And now, that is about to change as if House Bill 10717 becomes a law, employers, managers, supervisors or any of their agents will be prohibited from texting, emailing or calling workers during their rest period or days off.

The bill proposed as Workers’ Rest Law states that normal work hours shall not be more than 8 hours a day while compressed work week shall not exceed 12 hours a day. This is unless otherwise provided by the Labor Code or the employee freely gives their written consent.

  • Requiring the employee to be on duty, to travel, or be at a prescribed place for work or work-related activities, such as attending seminars, meetings, team building and other similar activities.
  • Contacting the employee for work and work-related purposes through phone, email, message and other means of communication, unless it is for the purpose of notifying the employee of the necessity of rendering emergency or urgent work as provided under the Labor Code.
Photo from Unsplash

House Bill 10717 further states that:

  • Employee will be paid P1,000 per hour of work rendered if violated.
  • Employees may not be penalized by the employer for not opening or answering communications received during rest hours
  • If employees are discriminated, the offender could face jail time of 1 month to 6 months and a fine of P100,000.
  • Offense is committed by a corporation, trust, firm, partnership, association or any other juridical entity, the penalty shall be imposed upon the guilty officer or officers.

Calamba, Laguna Rep. Joaquin Chipeco explained that he cited the movement in Europan countries to promote a healthy work-life balance.

On working beyond the maximum work hours under the law, Chipeco said, “This emerging trend does not augur well for the mental health of the employees, not to mention family solidarity.”
