As many of us are
social distancing, we are always on the lookout for new ways to enjoy and spice
up our daily constant.
One global trend that has been making waves on Instagram and Tiktok is the new Dalgona Coffee. Made up of only 3 ingredients on your cupboard, whisk it up and you’re good to go.
Since some of our
favorite coffee shops have come to a temporary close, we could only make our
own version of our favorite, and Dalgona Coffee is defo a perf alternative.
WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
Dalgona Coffee has
a lot of origins. According to research, it has origins from Macau, India, and
Pakistan where it is known as the whipped coffee.
However, it surged
in popularity when it appeared in the TV show Pyunstorang. Actor Jung Il-Woo
went to Macau where he happened to try the drink and named it Dalgona.
HOW DO YOU MAKE IT?
Step 1:
Prepare your ingredients:
2 tablespoons of instant coffee (better if the ‘classic’ one)
2 tablespoons of sugar
500ml fresh milk
with 2tbsp hot water
Step 2:
Whisk the instant coffee, hot water, and sugar together. Usually it would take 400 times or at least 10 minutes of whisking to make it really frothy.
Step 3:
Pour the fresh milk on a glass and top with the frothed coffee.

WHAT ARE THE OTHER WAYS TO MAKE IT?
Apart from coffee, you can also use Milo as the froth. But if you’re going to use Milo, better to use it with whip cream or pasteurized egg.
Also, you can use milk as the whip and have coffee or milo as the base. Be creative.

Since the novel coronavirus (CoVID-19) spread, sad news have circulated the world and its devastating effects to humans are enough to bring us down.
In spite of these, there is still some positive things to focus on. Like the news of the earth healing itself with the halt of human activities. One is, the elephants in Thailand are finally having their much deserved freedom.
Although unemployment is a scary
notion for us at these times, the elephants in Thailand are having the time of
their life with the break.
Elephant attractions in Thailand, one of the country’s famous tourism activities, have this practice of riding elephants. With CoVID-19 affecting tourism, one park director Anchalee Kalampichit has unburdened the elephants under her care of the heavy benches on their backs.
For the first time in 44 years, the
elephants of this park are currently roaming free on the
grounds without having the chairs they carry
everyday.
These domesticated elephants have been fought for by animal activists to be set free and released in the wild. And now, it seems this is starting to come true since Kalampichit plans to shift focus from offering rides and showing trick to educating tourists on elephants.
We all hope that this will be the start of total freedom for the gentle
giants.
Ever since the
scare of COVID-19 up surged , going out to buy our cravings was not an option.
Worse, dining in. Hence, we ordered the frozen items of different fast-food
brands.
However, upon ordering 3 packs of Shakey’s fried chicken, I couldn’t order my mojos. Hence, the research to recreate my fave.
Disclaimer: This is from my personal experience of recreating the famous Shakey’s mojos.
INGREDIENTS
Potato (cut into 9 millimeter slices)
100 grams of fried chicken breading mix
30 grams of salt
10 grams of pepper
cooking oil
PROCEDURE
1. Microwave the sliced potato spuds for five minutes—it is preferred that the microwave has a power setting of 700 watts.
2. Combine the dry ingredients: fried chicken breading mix, salt, and pepper in one bowl.
3. Toss the potato spuds in the mix until no surface is left unseasoned. Be careful when you do this since the potatoes are going to be hot.
4. Deep-fry to your preferred level of crispiness.
I was clearly satisfied with how my mojos tasted. All thanks to Shakey’s Japan for sharing your mojos recipe. This has indeed helped me and it could satisfy your cravings too.
If our dogs can
catch COVID-19, will our cats do the same?
After the stir
caused by the second case of COVID-19 amongst dogs, we have yet another pet who
tested positive with COVID-19, a cat.
According to the
Brussels Times, a house cat tested positive after being infected by its owner
in Liege Belgium. It was reported that it’s owner had a travel history in Italy
and was showing symptoms of the pandemic thereafter. The pet cat also started
showing symptoms of COVID-19 a week after.
They tested the
cat’s feces and showed positive for COVID-19. Thankfully, both the cat and its
owner are already showing improvement and are on their way to recovery.
Though this has
raised more concerns about this pandemic, scientists reassure everyone that
this is a rare case and should not be feared. Nonetheless, let us be cautious
and always practice proper hygiene.
Let us just continue praying for those who have been infected with the virus and the whole world.
COVID-19 Cebu
As the threat of the Coronavirus 2019 or COVID-19 rises every day, the Cebu province has taken a proactive approach and is pulling all stops in protecting the island. Here’s everything you need to know about COVID-19 and its symptoms: https://sugbo.ph/2020/corona-virus-in-cebu/
With this, an Executive Order was issued for the implementation of the drastic but necessary measures to avoid the spread of the virus. For more information, head on to: https://sugbo.ph/2020/cebu-implements-drastic-measures/
If you are sick and think you have symptoms of COVID-19, seek medical attention, call the local Coronavirus Health Information Line for advice: 0922-397-2334 / 0943-568-3298 / (032) 402-3091 / (032) 402-1269.
With the constant
pleading of the Filipinos for mass testing, is this the answer?
It has been
reported that one of the best ways to rally against COVID-19 is through
testing. Unless one knows his/her case, you will never know what steps to take
thereafter. You will always turn a blind-eye and worse, you could even spread
the virus unknowingly.
Hence, when the
University of the Philippines National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH) developed
testing kits, we are seeing a silver lining . Though it is still unused as of
writing, it is set to complete field validation on April 1.
Should these local
testing kits of UP-NIH be approved, Department of Science and Technology (DOST)
Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
will be issuing the Certificate of Product Registration on April 3, 2 days
after the approval.
The Manila
HealthTekc Inc., funded by DOST and UP-NIH could manufacture up to 1,300
testing kits for an equivalent kf 26,000 tests. These kits will then be
distributed to:
Philippine General Hospital
Makati Medical Center
The Medical City
Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center
Southern Philippines Medical Center
Baguio General Hospital
Compared to the foreign-made kits sold at P8,000, these locally-made kits will be sold at only P1,300 per piece.
Should these kits
be approved, the next prayer brigade we have to conduct is for DOH to find more
accredited laboratories for these testing kits. As of writing, there are only
six laboratories approved facility for COVID-19 testing:
Research Institute for Tropical Medicine
San Lazaro Hospital
Baguio General Hospital
Medical Center for Luzon
Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City
Southern Philippines Medical Center
With other
laboratories are awaiting for assessment, may they be approved the soonest
possible so we could combat with this pandemic the sooner.
May we never cease praying and protecting one another. We are bigger than this virus and so is our God. We can do this!

Tanduay
Distillers, Inc. and Absolut Distillers Inc. (ADI) of Lucio Tan Group are
now producing ethyl alcohol.
The
battle with the global pandemic, CoVID-19 have made every person scrambling for
alcohol. Though everyone needs it, it is crucial to the medical facilities to
have enough supply.
“The health of our front liners is essential in our fight against the spread of COVID-19,”
– Gerry Tee, ADI COO and gen manager of LT Group
The ethyl
alcohols produced were distributed to the DOH and other hospitals. Tanduay
donated a total of 20,000 liters to DOH, and another 20,000 liters NGOs for
distribution in medical facilities.
“During these challenging times, it’s important that we step up and help each other. We have transformed our distilleries to produce ethyl alcohol to supply the need of our kababayans. From Luzon, we aim to deliver next to Visayas and Mindanao,”

In line with the city’s implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, suspension of public transportation is one of the policies to follow.
With this, some people – especially the frontliners and those who are still working – may find commuting really hard. Worse, some even walk for at least 30 minutes just to get to their destination.
In partnership with SM Prime’s MyBus service, the Cebu City Government addresses this rising concern by providing FREE BUS RIDES from Cebu City going to north (up to Talamban) and south (up to Starmall), and vice versa.
According to Cebu City Councilor Joel Capili Garganera, an initial 40 Cebu City Bus and MyBus are now being deployed for FREE to 20 different routes in the City, each bus will be assigned 1 PROBE member to implement social distancing
If you’re someone like me who eats Samgyupsal at least once a week (pre-Coronavirus quarantine period), this is definitely a good news for us!
Romantic Baboy, one of the most popular Samgyeopsal restaurants in Cebu and Manila, opens its delivery service for your Samgyup cravings. This means, you can order over-the-phone their best-tasting meats — from the Herb Samgyupsal, to the Woo Samgyup.
Ever since the entire country mandated
everyone to stay at their homes as an effort to contain COVID-19, most of us
had definitely made checking social media more a routine. That includes
checking real time news as well regarding any updates about the contagious
virus. Sadly, not everyone is mentally tough to handle the stress and anxiety
brought by this global tragedy. Thus, here are some helpful exercises how to
manage those worries away.
1. Acknowledge your emotions.
With all that’s happening
around the world, acknowledging these overwhelming emotions is already half the
battle. Allowing these emotions to flow through you is a big help in managing
your stress.
2. Write down your fears and hopes.
Knowing that your fellow
poverty-stricken countrymen are in a dire situation, feelings of remorse and
helplessness will come, leaving you stressed. One of the best thing you can do
is to scribble these thoughts. Writing these fears, hopes, and all these mixed
emotions, make them valid and concrete, in a way.
3. Talk to someone.
While home quarantine is
imposed as a safety measure, making use of social media by reaching out to your
loved ones is vital. If you’re one of the strong ones, then letting your
friends know that you’re there for them is more than just doing your part in
our war against this disease.
4. Meditate.
I read a book about the
wonders of meditating and ever since, I started spending five minutes after
waking up to meditate. I try to think of the things I’m thankful for and clear
my head. With what’s happening today, setting a positive mindset is crucial.
Apps are also readily available such as Headspace,
Calm and Insight Timer to get you started.
5. Do grounding exercises
Grounding exercises are
mental exercises you can do to bring yourself into contact with the present
moment. This includes daily activities we take for granted such as taking a
walk or savoring the food we eat.
6. Write down what you’re grateful for
As an exercise, try to
write five things you are grateful for every time you wake up. As much as
possible, make it specific to the day like learning how to cook, watched that
show you always wanted to watch, or even as simple as being in a home during
this quarantine. Train your mind to always see the good amidst chaos.
Times like these, it is very important that we know how to manage such emotions. When we let such emotions go off the rails, panic would surely ensue, and panic is not a good start when it comes to making sound decisions. Always stay healthy, not just physically, but mentally too!
