‘Justice League: The Snyder Cut’ teaser is out

The secret is out. Or should I say, a part of it is out.

The director of ‘Justice League: The Snyder Cut’, Zack Snyder himself tweeted out a tease of the much anticipated HBO Max special.

“Snyder Cut” of Justice League is set to have its first big reveal at DC’s FanDome event in August, but this clip just about hyped up all the DC fans out there.

In the first look, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is seen exploring an underground cave or dark ruin, while a voiceover of Jesse Eisenberg’s speech as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice plays. She then sees an image of Darkseid and a prophecy of his arrival.

Darkseid is the villain that Snyder has teased and talked about on his personal Vero account for years and was originally intended to be in Justice League but was cut out of the final version of the film.

Announced as an HBO Max exclusive in May, Snyder’s darker take on the film comes after disappointed fans continually voiced their interest in seeing the director’s true vision of the Justice League.

Snyder originally stepped away from Justice League following the death of his daughter and the fandom then have taken issue with the lighter, more comedic contributions on that last film.

The best part about being Aquaman is that Zack Snyder created me so I get to see all this awesome shit before anyone. Here’s a first-ever peek at Zack Snyder‘s Justice League.”

– Jason Momoa aka “Aquaman”, first posted the clip on Instagram

Twitter will soon add an audio option to send voice tweets

“Your tweet, your voice.” Literally.

Twitter’s 280 characters is surely not enough to voice out your concerns. It’s too much of a hassle to create a thread either. Hence, Twitter has come up with a solution – voice tweets.

Imagine the excitement of every user upon hearing such news. Twitter has announced their plans on rolling out voice tweets to “add a more human touch to the way we use” Twitter.

“Twitter is where you go to talk about what’s happening. Over the years, photos, videos, gifs, and extra characters have allowed you to add your own flair and personality to your conversations. But sometimes 280 characters aren’t enough and some conversational nuances are lost in translation. So starting today, we’re testing a new feature that will add a more human touch to the way we use Twitter – your very own voice.”

– Twitter

Fret not because it’s easy to use. A new Tweet composer icon in ‘wavelengths’ will be added on the platform. Once clicked, you will see your profile photo with the record button at the bottom. You can then record your 140-second audio.

During its first roll out, only select iOS users will be able to try it first before more users will be accommodated.

“There’s a lot that can be left unsaid or uninterpreted using text, so we hope voice Tweeting will create a more human experience for listeners and storytellers alike. Whether it’s #storytime about your encounter with wild geese in your neighborhood, a journalist sharing breaking news, or a first-hand account from a protest, we hope voice Tweeting gives you the ability to share your perspectives quickly and easily with your voice. We can’t wait to see how people will use this to make their voices heard and add to the public conversation.”

I can’t wait to share to my followers; “DZAE, NAA KOY CHIKKA!” Imagine the excitement?

World now in ‘new and dangerous phase’ of COVID-19 pandemic: WHO

0

Geneva: The World Health Organization warned Friday of a “new and dangerous phase” of the coronavirus pandemic with people tiring of lockdowns despite the disease’s accelerating spread.

The warning came as it emerged the virus was present in Italy in December, months before its first confirmed cases and about the same time as the disease was first reported in China.

The virus, which has now killed more than 454,000 people and infected 8.4 million people worldwide, is surging in the Americas and parts of Asia even as Europe starts to ease restrictive measures.

Lockdowns imposed to halt the spread of the disease have caused crippling economic damage, but the WHO said the pandemic still posed a major threat.

“The world is in a new and dangerous phase. Many people are understandably fed up with being at home… but the virus is still spreading fast,”

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

A vaccine remains months off at best despite several trials, while scientists are still discovering more about the virus, its symptoms and the extent to which it may have spread before being identified.

This is an official press release from the World Health Organization (WHO).

LOOK: Angkas proposes plastic shields as new normal

Even though this is to adhere to the “physical distancing” rule, the prohibition on the “no back ride policy” has been faced with backlash ever since its announcement.

The motorcycle have been one of the major means of transport in the city and that’s why Angkas has decided to appeal to the government with their proposed “Plastic shields” presented by Angkas chief transport advocate George Royeca.

These plastic shields will be mounted on the driver’s back to screen the transfer of bacteria from the passenger to the driver, and vice versa.

These shields are designed to be drag-resistant ensuring that they are safe for the road.

“We understand that there are social distancing req, and if we look at motorcycles it’s a clear violation kasi malapit talaga and pasahero and driver. But we’ve seen that all over the world everyone is providing solutions to remedy the situation.”

– George Royeca, Angkas chief transport advocate

Angkas requires its drivers to have helmets, face masks, and vests with waist handles.

We all should learn to live with it (Covid-19) in order for us to move forward.

If this proposal will be approved and Angkas is allowed to operate, passengers are required to use their own helmets and face masks. They are also looking into subjecting their bikers to testing.

Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in upcoming film ‘Spencer’

“We decided to get into a story about identity, and around how a woman decides somehow, not to be the queen.”- Pablo Larraín, Director of Spencer

From these words alone, we already knew that this film will be both intriguing and epic. Add with it the choice of actor and we’re sold.

Kristen Stewart, in probably her most bold role yet, has proven herself a great actor from ‘Twilight’ to ‘Personal Shopper’ then most recently in ‘Charlie’s Angels’.

“To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristin can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her.”

Pablo Larrain

Set in the early ‘90s at Sandringham, the film will cover a critical time when Princess Diana Spencer decided that her marriage to Prince Charles wasn’t working out.

“She’s a woman who, in the journey of the movie, decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles.”

Spencer will be a must-watch film for it is brought by the one behind critically acclaimed film “Jackie” and will even be scripted by the Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.

The movie will kick off production in early 2021.

[Opinion] Anti-Terrorism Bill: Answers to Questions You Should Understand

2

Social media had been in flames ever since the Anti-Terrorism Bill has been introduced, and it has caused many political debates over why or why not the other party should support it. Amidst the panic of the pandemic, this bill has emerged and had made many anxious of its effects if it is to be applied. Many are upset about the implementation of the bill, and thus this article aims to help everyone understand why people are upset over it. But first, a bit of background.

What is the Anti-Terrorism Bill?

It is known officially as “The Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020”. According to its title, it is “an act to prevent, prohibit and penalize terrorism”. It was authored by Senators Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Panfilo Lacson, Imelda “Imee” Marcos, Manuel “Lito” Lapid, Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., and Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa. This bill will effectively repeal a bill tackling the same issue back in 2007, called the “Human Security Act of 2007”.

Why are people afraid of it?

Many argue that it couldn’t be a bad thing because its intention is good. However, many also argue that there are actually many reasons it could go wrong.

Under existing law, the act of wiretapping, or listening to and intercepting conversations of people susected to be terrorists, can only be done after the written order from the Court of Appeals. In Sec. 17, “Judicial Authorization, Requisites” it states that, “the Court of Appeals shall issue a written order to conduct [surveillance]…upon filing an ex parte written application by a law enforcement agent…who has been duly authorized in writing by the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC)”.

In Sec. 29, “Detention Without Judicial Warrant of Arrest”, it states that, “…military personnel, who, having been duly authorized in writing by the ATC,…deliver said suspected person to the proper judicial authority within a period of fourteen (14) calendar days”.

In short, it effectively transfers a lot of power to the politicians of the ATC instead of the different judicial bodies and courts of the government. As the Human Rights Watch puts it, “The Philippine people are about to face an Anti-Terrorism Council that will be prosecutor, judge, jury, and jailer.”

If you aren’t a terrorist, why should you be afraid?

Many people ask this question against those who oppose to junk the bill. “Even if you protest against the government, it can’t be counted as terrorism because it is explicitly stated in Sec. 4 that the civil right to protest isn’t terrorism,” many would say.

Given that the ATC is the organization with the power to declare who is a suspect of terrorism, and given that the ATC is a government body, this can be heavily misused by this body against their political enemies. After all, the police has a history of planting evidences, including the planted evidence on the murder of Kian delos Santos back in 2017, or the planted evidence on the murder of former soldier Winston Ragos. Most recently, unknown people have made dummy duplicate accounts of many Facebook users who have been vocal against the bill. It is very dangerous when police and civilians alike can plant evidences because even if you have done nothing wrong, the ATC has the power to determine you suspicious.

Can people really be jailed without a warrant?

Yes. It is stated in Sec. 29, “Detention Without Judicial Warrant of Arrest”, although prior to this bill, it is still possible for this to happen. According to the Human Security Act of 2007 (HSA), a suspected person may be arrested without a judicial warrant, but this still raised some controversy over the ethics of this provision. However, what’s new now is that instead of a three-day detention mandated in the HSA, the new bill proposes to extend the detention to 14 days and can even be extended by 10 days if it is necessary to preserve evidence. That is a lot of time to spend on with the presumption of guilt, i.e. “guilty until proven innocent”.

Is this article proposing to junk the bill?

Again, I reiterate that the aim of the bill is good-willed, however by the procedure on how the bill is going to tackle the threat of terrorism, it needs to be reworked so that the political body should not have a lot of power over choosing who gets to be a terrorist and who doesn’t. This can be used wrongly when fallen into the wrong hands. Presumption of guilt should also be removed as it obstructs the civilian right to be innocent until proven guilty.

Many would say that, “if the problem is that politicians will use the bill in a corrupt manner, why tackle the bill and not the politicians?” However, keep in mind that the current government, the politicians the opposition has a problem with, will still run the country for the next two years, and two years is a big difference.

FULL TEXT OF THE ANTI-TERRORISM BILL:

This article is not saying that if the government passes the bill, everything will go in mayhem or that if the government junks the bill, peace and prosperity will return to the country. After all, there are a lot of social issues concerning the bill. This article aims to help the reader understand why people are against it and give some insight. A healthy discourse with an open mind can make a difference.

LOOK: ‘Willy Wonka-style’ Chocolate Factory to rise in Amsterdam

Growing up, I have always wanted to visit a chocolate factory because of Willy Wonka. That dream hasn’t changed since then. I guess everyone who has been dreaming to visit one is about to turn this dream into a reality.

Tony’s Chocolonely, a Netherlands-brand chocolate, is building a “candy complex” in Amsterdam. This complex is inspired by that of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Official render from Tony’s Chocolonely

“Tony’s Chocolonely Chocolate Circus,” as how they call it, will give you a “total experience where you can learn and experience everything about chocolate,” says their official announcement in 2018.
