Careless’ CEO Jeffrey Oh

He added: “We call it Wavy Baby because we want a wavy lifestyle and a wavy mindset. It also pays homage to Sinulog because the symbols are water and the baby Jesus, so it’s also a nod to that. We’re excited to be part of the Cebu family and build something special that hopefully, we can repeat year after year.”

PAL now offers Cebu-Baguio direct flights 4x a week

Cebu, Philippines – Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the country’s friendliest gateway to the country’s tourism destination, sees renewed confidence in traveling with the further expansion of its network to new destinations in Cotabato, Baguio, and Borongan.

Cebu-Baguio direct flights

Flag-carrier Philippine Airlines launches its pioneer Baguio route from MCIA taking off starting December 16, 2022 — it is the latest addition to the roster of domestic flights connecting Cebu to different key cities nationwide.

The pioneering flights conveniently link travelers from Cebu to the City of Pines. The MCIA management said Philippine Airlines’ new service supports the recovery and resurgence of domestic tourism and economic development throughout the country.

Philippine Airlines will operate 4x weekly Cebu-Baguio-Cebu flights with convenient morning departures:

  • PR 2230 Cebu-Baguio – every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday departing Mactan Cebu at 08:50 AM, arriving at Baguio Loakan Airport at 10:50 AM

To book, head on to PAL’s official website: www.philippineairlines.com

More domestic travel destinations

Recently, Philippine Airlines also kicked off flights from Cebu to the Bangsamoro region through non-stop Cebu-Cotabato flights and one-stop Cebu to Tawi-Tawi flights operating from the MCIA.

Philippine Airlines’ Cebu-BARMM route flies twice weekly. The PR2223 Cebu-Cotabato flies every Monday and Thursday. It departs at 05:20 AM and arrives in Cotabato’s Awang Airport at 06:35 AM. Meanwhile, PR 2224 Cotabato-Cebu, which flies every Monday and Thursday, departs at 11:00 AM and arrives in Mactan-Cebu at 12:15 PM.

Instead of flying from Manila, travelers can now also depart from the MCIA through Philippine Airlines’ direct flights to Cotabato City and Boracay, Coron, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Clark, Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban, and Siargao starting December 16 and to Borongan beginning December 19.

Cebu to Bangkok routes resumes

Since December 9, MCIA has also been hosting Philippine Airlines’ twice weekly Cebu-Bangkok flights. The resumption of its Bangkok route expanded the network of international flights availing of MCIA as a gateway for visitors from Thailand and the ASEAN region.

The Philippine Airlines service offers convenient morning departures from Cebu and early afternoon departures from Bangkok, giving travelers an easy three-hour journey without needing to connect via Manila or other airports:

  • PR 738 Cebu-Bangkok – every Monday and Friday departing at 09:30 AM
  • PR 739 Bangkok-Cebu – every Monday and Friday departing at 01:30 PM

Maretes Cajun Seafood: New Orleans-inspired Seafood Spot in Cebu City

Do you know what’s the latest? A new seafood spot in Kasambagan, Cebu City.

Maretes Cajun Seafood officially graces Cebu with its Cajun seafood. The restaurant finally opened its doors to hungry Sugboanons last December 12, 2022.

Photo from Jesse Jake Daan

The restaurant has a New Orleans-inspired interior, and the decorations also give off a great vibe of the sea. Upon entering, you will be greeted by the amazing centerpiece located on the ceiling, which is an upside-down boat with lights hanging on it. The background is also painted in different shades of blue to give you the illusion of the sea.

But that’s not all Maretes has to offer. Our team visited the location and we got to taste and experience their amazing seafood dishes.

A Whole Seafood Feast

We started off with their “Starters.” We were served Giant deep fried squid. Inspired by the Taiwanese butterfly squid, it came in skewered on a metal rod and had a creamy mayo sauce. The squid was fried perfectly; it was soft, juicy, and flavorful. The mayo sauce also added another depth of flavor with its sweet and tangy taste.

We also got to taste their Baked Oysters filled with creamy melted cheese!

Of course, the main star of the show is the “Maretes” which is a whole Cajun seafood experience. Ordering requires a process where you choose your seafood, sauce, level of heat, and add-ons.

For the add-ons, we ordered Garlic rice with a subtle garlic flavor. The Sugbo team got a little bit of everything for the seafood, which included mud crabs, shrimp, squid, and mussels. The sauce of choice was the Cajun sauce.

The garlic rice with the seafood and cajun sauce was literally a whole shebang of goodness.

If you want a hint of variety, they also have pork barbecue, which was saucy and packed with flavor.

For the drinks, we tried their mango and watermelon shakes with the perfect amount of sweetness.

A Fun and Beautifully Messy Seafood Experience

The fun part? All foods are placed on the table and best eaten using your hands. Don’t fret, they provide gloves and table napkins.

Maretes Cajun Seafood accepts reservations, and you can even book for any event.

Getting a tattoo can be a special way to express oneself, or simply a way to be in with the trend. According to the Pew Research Center, they’re more popular than ever right now, with 40% of millennials saying they have at least one marking.

Photo from Inkkin’Ian Tattoos Facebook Page

If you’re thinking about being inked, here are some of the well-known tattoo artists and shops in Cebu that you might want to visit, whether to mark the particular bond you have with your mother or simply because you can’t stop thinking about the delicate wrist tattoos you’ve seen on Instagram. Rates may start from ₱1000, depending on the design and colors involved.

1. Jello Talaboc, Chow Abinales @ 032 Tattoo

Talaboc started his career in 2013 but it was not until 2016 that he decided to make tattooing his main source of income. He is known for his minimalist designs, dot works, and floral tattoos. This is because most of his clients are women who love minimalist designs like scripts, micro portraits, and small floral pieces.

On the other side of the story, Chow Abinales is the owner of 032 Tattoo, one of the greatest tattoo shops in the area. It has been offering consumers high-quality and secure ink jobs in the center of Cebu City since 2011. Although they excel at Japanese and portrait patterns, they can also accept other styles, such as minimalist tattoos.

Where to find: Jello Talaboc – Cornerstone Tattoo Studio, Cebu City, Chow Abinales – 032 Tattoo, Paseo Del Sol, Juana Osmeña St, Cebu City

2. Carlo Gabiana @ Crol’s Tattoo

In a sit-down interview at his tattoo parlor, Crols Tattoo, located at 66-A M.P. Yap Street, Cebu, Carlo said that getting a tattoo is a way to represent who you are. This statement held for him, as he started having a liking for tattoos after his first tattoo when he was in high school.

Once an Architecture student, he now runs Crol’s Tattoo for more than four years already. When it comes to intricate designs, Carlo is the one to turn to because of his incredible creativity and attention to detail.

Where to find: M.L. Quezon National Highway, Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, 6015 Cebu

Redeemed Tattoo is a relatively new tattoo shop owned by tattoo artist Boots Brandon, who went a long way before he opened up the shop. He once struggled to discover his calling and direction in life, but today he owns and runs a tattoo parlor in the lifestyle mall.

He gave his business the name “Redeemed Tattoo” as a tribute to all the times he contemplated giving up and all the hardships he had to go through on a personal level to arrive at where he is now. Now, he has a team of over five tattoo artists and even plans to expand his brand.

Where to find: Crossroads, Banilad

5. Needlepoint Tattoo

In 2005, Needlepoint Tattoo Studio opened for business and started inking its way into the industry. After working as a traveling tattoo artist for a while, owner and senior tattoo artist Ralph San Ramon decided it was time to open the store of his dreams in Cebu City, where he was born and raised.

The studio began as a tiny shop that was run solely by Ralph and his wife Pearl as they divided their time between managing the business and attending college.

They also offer cosmetic tattooing through scalp micro-pigmentation in addition to tattooing artwork on the skin, giving balding patients the appearance of having thicker hair or stubble.

Where to find: 107 Pres. Quezon St. Villa Aurora, Kasambagan, Cebu City

6. Renante Lariosa Herbias @ Southern Tattoo

Also known as “Nante,” Renante is recognized for championing at the most prestigious tattoo convention in the country, DUTDUTAN, as well as others competing in various competitions. He works for Southern Tattoo, a tattoo shop found in the heart of downtown Cebu.
