In a world where stability and security are often valued above all else, there are those who dare to take the road less traveled.
Meet Ron Jan Rubia, a former IT Engineer who made the bold decision to quit his professional job to embark on a thrilling journey of managing his own business. Leaving behind the comfort of a steady paycheck, Rubia’s story serves as an inspiration for anyone seeking to break free from the constraints of corporate life and chase their dreams.

His Professional Life
Rubia was no stranger to success in his professional life. He excelled in his career as an IT Engineer in Ortigas working from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM and was earning a comfortable income. Yet, despite the outward appearance of achievement, a lingering sense of unfulfillment consumed him.
The Call of Business
As his discontent grew, so did his desire for something more. He craved the thrill of creating, innovating, and making a tangible impact on the world around him. The monotonous routine of his professional job no longer aligned with his passions and aspirations.
“Gusto ko kasi yung talagang hawak ko yung oras ko para the more na mas masarap mag-harvest sa sarili mong oras,”
HE SAID.

The Birth of a Vision
With his mind set on entrepreneurship, Rubia made the brave decision to quit his stable job. He understood the risks involved, but he was willing to wager it all to bring his vision to life. It was a leap of faith that would test his resilience, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to his newfound path.
With P20,000 as initial capital, he and his partner began a food business and chose Siomai since it is a crowd-favorite and affordable item. They started small, but were able to grow their business quickly.
Rubia now sells P5,000 worth of siomai everyday on average and even makes TikTok videos to promote his business which proved effective.
Ron Jan Rubia’s journey from professional to businessman serves as a testament to the power of following one’s dreams and embracing the unknown. By doing this, we too can create a life of purpose, passion, and unbounded success.
Sometimes, we all need to calm the commotion within us and seek out places that offer peace by doing nothing. It is the mental therapy we deserve.

Have you heard that the new PAGCOR logo costs P3 Million? Do you think a logo can cost that much?
Photo from PAGCOR
On July 11, at the Marriott Hotel Manila. The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) launched a new logo. A team of Filipino designers created the logo, which they claim cost P3 million.
According to PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco, “The new PAGCOR logo incorporates the element of fire associated with energy, inspiration, passion, and transformation. It symbolizes the flame that ignites change and drives progress. The logo also reflects a beacon, which stands for guidance, leadership, and direction. It represents a guiding light that helps people find their way. “
The agency accepted the P3,035,714.28 quotation for the quotation of the new design.
Following its unveiling, the new logo for PAGCOR generated a lot of discussion online, with some users on social media asking if it was indeed worth the approved budget. The design has drawn criticism for being unimaginative, uninspired, and strikingly similar to the logos of other organizations including the National Basketball Association, Walt Disney Company, Petron, and Lucky Me.
Photo from PAGCOR
The new logo has been defended by Pagcor, which claims that it was created to symbolize the company’s “long-standing commitment of being a guiding force that illuminates the way forward, drives transformation and development, and brings inspiration and motivation to the lives it touches.”
The artist behind PAGCOR’s new logo
According to the Notice of Award posted on PAGCOR’s official website, the contract was awarded to Francisco D. Doplon of PrintPlus Graphic Services in Las Pias City on June 27.
Mr. Doplon is a former president of the Design Agencies Association of the Philippines. He is a commended graphic designer who has created logos for the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 40th Anniversary, the University of Santo Tomas’ 400th Tongues of Fire, Metrobank Foundation, and All Day Supermarket, among others.
The internet presence of PrintPlus Graphic Services, on the other hand, appears to be minimal, judging by the few social media users. A netizen did a quick research and posted on social media that a Facebook page called “PrintPlus” was founded in 2014 and is situated in Las Pias City and only has 62 likes. The design firm associated with PAGCOR’s contract hasn’t been confirmed, yet.
Doplon has previously designed logos for corporations and government agencies. The Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 40th Anniversary Logo, the University of Santo Tomas’ 400 Years Tongues of Fire Logo, the Metrobank Foundation, and All Day Supermarket logos are just a few of his renowned designs.
Photo from PAGCOR
Doplon also stated on his website that he had updated the logos of the Philippines Philharmonic Orchestra, Tanghalang Pilipino, and the Filipinas Heritage Library. Additionally, he worked on numerous projects for the Ayala Group. He also listed 25 awards and citations on his website.
PAGCOR is owned and managed by the government under the office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines. During the Martial Law era, the state-owned gaming firm was established by Presidential Decree (PD) 1067-A issued by then-President Ferdinand Marcos in response to calls for the Philippine government to put a stop to the growing proliferation of illegal casino operations across the country.

Chilean President Gabriel Boric, who proudly declares himself as a Swiftie, eagerly anticipates the possibility of a Taylor Swift concert taking place in his country. Despite the fact that neighboring countries such as Brazil and Argentina are included in Swift’s Latin America tour, Chile has yet to be included in the lineup, leaving the President hopeful for a future performance.
“I wrote to her not too long ago, let’s see if she responds, so that one day she can include us in her Latin America tour. One day, she’ll listen to the Chilean Swifties, and I have no doubt she’ll come to Chile. Hopefully sometime within the next three years,”

Billionaire CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla is very close to achieving fully autonomous vehicles.
Photo from Tesla
In a video link at the opening ceremony of an AI conference in Shanghai, China last Thursday, Musk stated that they’re almost at the end of carrying out this long-awaited milestone.
He added that,
“This is only speculation, but I think we’ll achieve full self-driving, maybe what you would call four or five, I think later this year.”
Photo from Tesla
Musk, who also owns Twitter, missed the timelines he set for this development and admitted to being wrong in his previous statements about the groundbreaking project, but mentioned that they’re closer to its completion now more than ever.
In April, Tesla declared its plans to construct a second colossal factory in Shanghai, taking into consideration that China is the largest market for electric vehicles worldwide.
The entrepreneur continues his ongoing endeavors to foster strong ties with China where electric vehicles account for a significant 25% of car sales. Furthermore, numerous new models from both domestic and Western car manufacturers were revealed at the country’s first auto show post the lifting of Covid restrictions last April.

Tesla also experienced a decline in first-quarter earnings this year, prompting the company to implement a series of price reductions.
All things considered, the company’s relentless commitment to advancing autonomous driving technology and its ability to continuously refine its driver-assistance features demonstrate its determination to revolutionize the way we commute. As Tesla continues to push boundaries and overcome obstacles, the future holds the promise of a transportation landscape where fully self-driving vehicles become a common sight, transforming the way we experience mobility and reshaping the automotive industry as we know it.
